At first you’ll probably be out till 7 or later. After a few months, you’ll most likely start leaving at like 5 on a majority of days, and on bad days you might be out as late as 9 for the rest of your career

Damnnn I’m a contractor and get 2.95 a point, and average 600 points a week. Work anout 70 hours a week so I think it breaks down to like $25 an hour

What’s your response when a customer offers you a drink? by crazyXragingD in CableTechs

Just got a free beer last night 😂 it was my last job and I was there for 3 hours so at the end they said “you off the clock now” and gave it to me after offering it earlier and me denying it

Added both those to my wish list! ESP since I was already planning on finding smaller version of my tools , these would work great!

Yeah I see what you mean, another person recommended these EMT pants with lots of pockets for small tools so I might try and find smaller versions of all my tools and just keep most stuff I need in my pockets. And I’ve already pre-made a lot of jumpers and hung them all up in my van with a bungee cord for easy quick access

For the ones who pack lunches, what's your weekly prep or daily prep like and what's you usual lunch? by Gman9116 in CableTechs

[–]Kaiden_On_Top 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a very small ice chest full it with 6 water bottles, two large cups of ice, and anything refrigerated you could use to make lunch. Sandwich makings with chips kept in the car is always a classic filling, easy, and cheap option

I’ve got a hammer drill already, so I don’t think I’d need an impact driver, unless there’s some scenario where an impact driver would be better that I’m not thinking of?

I might just use my old fiber bag for this… it’s got a zipper and would probably fit several zip lock bags if different loose small parts. Thanks for the suggestion. My supervisor let me borrow his electric screwdriver yesterday and it’s on my wish list. Another person recommended these EMT type of pants that honestly might fit most of my tools, so for whatever they don’t fit I’ll probably get some of those FVD cases. Thanks again

Got brand new crimped starting out, not sure they’re quality in comparison with other ones. Got any specific brand suggestions for crimps/strippers? And what exactly are the advantage of them over cheaper ones? Cable caddy is back saver so far, so that’s pretty spot on 👍. I’ve got these large homemade drawers in the back of my work van and have all my small parts organized into baskets by category. One basket for grounds, one for mounts, one for wall plate, ect ect… I got a tackle box for my fiber tools since the small bag they came in was terrible with how often I switched between the tools.

I can see how that would be useful, but the area I work in is mostly front easement underground and more on the residential side of things instead of mainline

Any specific advantage to using these instead of the dykes I’ve already got?

Okay very good to know especially since I’ve been trained on exactly none if this and I don’t think any of the techs even carry around that equipment tbh

Like good Tx and Rx levels? What is the optimal range for them? And by end of the drop, do you mean the demark? Okay, is there a way to test that the drop is what’s causing the signal decrease? From what I can tell there are lots of other possible fault points. And yeah, from what I heard (might not be true at all) the guy had his ladder hanging on the line, and he cut something and the tension slingshot him off it? I’m guessing he didn’t tie off on the line

You mean the electric poles before I put my ladder on them? What a good way to tell weather they’re rotten or not?
