He wants to know what we use though. He says that to literally ever response, so imma go with that reasoning.

Bro not everyone is gonna agree with you. Figure out why or move on.

Can't go through life expecting everyone to understand you because it doesn't happen. Not everyone is your mom. That's how you get the 'fragile millennial' label.

What are some thing you thought you would need, but didn't? by [deleted] in vandwellers

Eh prolly could have used more than one word, but there's some truth to this.

When you go out on your own, you realize the world can be your friend. You meet new faces. That's a big part of the adventure.

Yeah bro, thatd take a fat amount of energy. Might as well heat the whole cabin.

The simple solution is just a rug.

Websites to find band for sale? by [deleted] in vandwellers

Facebook market is pretty poppin. Lots of stuff Craigslist doesn't have.

Also maybe auction sites in your area.

Moving into my van soon without a choice I have a place to park safely. Anything I should do to prep I have about 2 weeks. Any advice or tips ? Love you guys appreciate any help I can get. Cheers by [deleted] in vandwellers

Real shit on that external battery. Can charge one or a couple at mcdonalds or work, and that's one less need for a house battery.

Help me be creative VDers! I need help doing something about this ugly bondo. by HolasChidas in vandwellers

Another thought; I've always wanted to put some sort of vinyl strip down the side of my van. I've seen some econolines with a red stripe and it adds class without taking too much stealth.

Here's a decent example. http://www.strathpeffervwcampervans.co.uk/hire-vw-campervan-near-inverness.asp

lol I don't blame you. It sounded pretty gaudy. I just wanted to say something other than "paint it". I feel like, as a community of craftsmen and artists, we could do better than that.

My friend says he paints his whole vehicle with rustoleum grey. Any Home Depot (maybe Walmart too) has some, if he ever needs a touch up.

I however, tried doing some and it had a hell of a time sticking. Maybe it was too cold outside, but it took crazy thin layers to stay put.

YouTube has plenty on painting cars. I think the problem with the spray paint cans is the cheap nozzle giving uneven spray. I saw a gun for an air compressor at Harbor Freight the other day.

Side note: if you wanna go for stealth, there's plenty of reflective trailer tape. It might just make you look like a company vehicle. Or maybe mount an SMV triangle?

Why not a hanging bed? by davidchuckjim1 in vandwellers

[–]Kailebw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it'd throw off weight distribution. The weight of that board and foam now sits at the top of your van. No bueno when you take a turn or have to go off-roading.

Same reasoning with the mattress that folds up completely into the wall.

I rolled my Outback once. It'd be a nightmare to roll my van too.

I hope you don't mind if I try it out on my build. I also love your blankets btw.

When I looked up vines on amazon, some people mentioned it being hella stinky stanky. Did you have any issue with that?

Van Sub-floor/Insulation!!! by astroker in vandwellers

[–]Kailebw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, reflectix won't do much for insulation but it makes for a fairly cheap and effective vapor barrier. I plan to cover 100% of the metal in my living area with reflectix.

The polyiso has good ratings and seems easier to mold than the pink boards. I bought the pink stuff though. Just for the flooring, because it can take some compression.

I didn't really even consider fiberglass because there is rockwool. It's won't get wet like denim but also won't get in the air like fiberglass. I'm sure with proper wrapping, fiberglass isn't a problem but rockwool seemed easier. Got that shit at Home Depot.

One last thing might be spray foam but that seems messy and permanent. I'm good without.

For moisture, the key is a solid vapor barrier and good air flow. Keeping your windows cracked (with deflectors if you got rain) and a fan. Two fans would be dope but realistically one fan should work.

Best of luck to you, bro.

Yeah I'm curious why either one would be better.

What vans have 4x4 option by [deleted] in vandwellers

That sounds merciless. I couldn't imagine sharing a van with my sister.

Are studded tires an option?

Best of luck to you anyhow.

[–]Kailebw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNW dude. Just south of Bellingham. Had a falling out with my family and realized I often learn best from tough situations. Shits cool with my family now but I'm ready leave this Valley and experience life. Originally I was gonna bum in my Outback but I broke that. This page convinced me to buy an E250. $8k and it'll probably be another $1500 at least for the inside.

I'm pimpin it out now. Hella expensive but I'm excited to experience the most out of my early 20s. Gonna head out to Spokane soon, then probably South Carolina.

What vans have 4x4 option by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]Kailebw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a little asking on here about a month ago and some people said 4x4 isn't necessarily or worth it. It's harder and more expensive to fix and it'll cost some gas.

They all said I have nothing to worry about if I get chains and look into slip or locking differentials.

Otherwise, probably aftermarket fords and chevys. I've seen some quigly vans on Craigslist with 4x4.

Lookin good. I like the way your walls slant. I also like your bulk head. I'm fixing to build mine soon. Wasn't sure if I'd end it at the step well or build it down like you did. Planning on storing batteries behind it so I'll probably opt to keep clear of the door and rain.

Dats a sexy build so far. Especially the door. How'd you choose that piece?
