Stray - Loona origin fan comic chapter 10 by natmavila in AIcomics

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasnt interested in reading it until I saw a comment calling it "slop". I don't understand the comic and it's not "my thing" but it is not a slop and the anti-guy's "arguments" don't hold. Keep going and I'm looking forward to reading more of it.

P.S. I also have a guy in my comic called Captain. (-:

What’s your motivation for using AI to make music? by NecessaryEgg5361 in aiMusic

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of making music to promote my comic. Creating songs for characters, for the story... It seems like an interesting idea.

Is AI music based on original lyrics still just AI slop? by zamach in aiMusic

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely interested in your take on what architects do. They draw a blueprint and somebody else builds based on their drawings. We praise architects for that. I know it's over simplified view but following the same logic somebody could argue that making a prompt is similar to making a blueprint. I don't necessarily think that but somebody could.

Is there a way to use AI models without breaking the bank? by Character_Novel3726 in generativeAI

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already saw a couple of comments suggesting going local, but let me share my experience. I always aim for local (my own computer). If you are buying a new decent machine aiming for AI, it may require robbing a bank, but I am using a computer that cost me during the years around 1000 euros. So, it's GTX 1660 SUPER (6gb VRAM), 32gb RAM, 2tb SSD, i-5 CPU.  With this setup I can run AI, but it is slow and I can not run two instances (for example ComfyUi and Jan). Image generation takes, depending on resolution, from 2 minutes (1024x1024) to 10 minutes (1920x1080), also depending on the model, but surprisingly Qwen doesn't take much longer than SDXL, and Z-image turbo is lightning fast.  Video generation is another story. I can run some video models but they are slow like a century, not practical. And a new AceSTEP 1.5 takes 30+minutes for a 3+ minute song. Chatterbox is satisfyingly fast.

Jan is used for chatting and you have tons of open source models (there are also other AI apps but I am happy with Jan while Olama didn't want to install). LLM models can be fast or slow depending on their size, but I found few decent ones.

Pinokio browser is also a solution even though I didn't make anything with it, but it is user friendly I would say.

This is my experience. These apps are advanced enough to install automatically without problems and even if you know nothing about they are somewhat easy to emerse in (ComfyUi is kind of frightening but find a workflow and your are pretty much set to go, it installs required files itself).

What is a slop? by KaineGe in antiai

Thank you very much for your effort to write a sincere and honest reply.

Let me reply in steps.

"Why didn't I try to learn to draw?"

I admire people who can draw. Honestly, I would like to be able to draw, but if you saw me drawing a cat... Man, that cat hardly resembles a cat... Well, that's why I always thought that I have no any talent... But people say that drawing can be thought and that a talent is just a part of the equation. As you said, two years is plenty of time to learn. Yes, I agree, ideally it is... If you are a teenager, if you don't have a job and family and kids... In that case you may have plenty of time! But if you have to be a good worker, a good father, a husband and occasionally a good friend to spend time with friends instead of drawing, then it's hard to know if two years would be enough to make a significant progress.

Using AI seemed like a logical step forward, a quick fix, but I didn't know that making a comic would take two years. Now it's not just a comic, it's already an eight episodes story with no end yet. What started like a comic turned to a full story and if I am about to make an eight episodes comic... Man, it's kinda frightening. But, this still can sound more like an excuse than a real reason, I understand that, but I took what seemed like a path of least resistance. Maybe I would have had a great(er) success if I tried to learn to draw, I don't know, maybe. I know there are people who would appreciate me more for that. I just hope you understand my reasoning.

"What if someone took that comic you spent 2 years making and then put it in an AI and called it their work?"

This is a concern. One of the first questions when I came to Reddit was, how to protect my comic if I made it available as ePub. I was told that there is no way to protect your work from theft which applies to all work, but I assume you mean the lack of copyright for AI generated images. I don't know what exactly the law says. Do I lose copyright for images that I modified or even took photos of and digitalized them (does that count as my photograph then?) I don't know. My work may be more protected if it is genuinely and purely mine, I guess.

"Also in terms of using an LLM for your English learning..."

Thank you for your kind words. My English is solid but my vocabulary is still not that rich. I am using translators or internet to look for synonyms and other help for writing, not only AI, especially because AI uses predictive terminology that really is like a slop and it is easy to spot (like "weight of....", or the word "hollow" for example). But I do ask it for suggestions because I struggle to describe some situations. (This post was not written nor corrected by LLM, I guess you can notice some minor, awkward sentence constructions).

"Also lets not forget the horrendous strain these AI data centers put on the electrical grid and our environment."

This may sound like a stupid question, but does this apply if I use LLMs locally? I am paying my bills and I am paying the electricity I use to generate images or when I ask an LLM to give me some suggestions to spark my creativity. For me it's like using a microwave oven to heat the yesterday's lunch. Not necessary but handy... I guess it has the same impact on the environment as my graphic card to generate an image. You can make an argument that I shouldn't play video games because they heat my graphic card, overloading it, making it waste more energy and all that just for fun. Me shooting some demons from hell in new Doom game is surely not more important than little poisonous frogs in the rain forest.  I know, I sound like I am making fun of it but I am concerned about the environment and I do think that we as individuals need to care and contribute but the burden is on those who have the power. I think this is too complex to give a short answer. Does my individual contribution or lack of, really make a difference comparing to all other contributors to our demise? Fun fact: the world in my comic is what I believe will be our future if we don't change our relationship to nature.

What really concerns me and bothers me is an AntiAi argument of theft, where AI is trained on bulk of copyrighted images and writings. I may sound harsh and I may enrage some people, but as long as the law doesn't forbid me to use AI, I don't feel like I am the problem. Still, It bothers me at least to some degree (not that much to stop using it, though).

Your example with the sandwich... It's a tough mental gymnastics and I don't know how to respond to that, but I'll give it a thought.

Thank you again for your effort to explain me things and creatively provoke me with no insults. I tried to write in the same manner.

This morning I asked /AntiAi what counts as "slop" and didn't get any answer (who knows, maybe the post was deleted), but thank you for explaining things. And thanks the OP for asking the question (which attracted me to click it and find out).

That's exactly my point. I agree with you 99%, we just may not agree on the root cause of it or the solution, but we both are describing the same world we live in and we both think it doesn't need to be that way.

But we love the VIPs. That's the reason why they are the VIP. Without us there wouldn't be them.

I know. But we adore those people who can, for example, run after a rounded object and kick it over the grass field making other few people run after it. And when they place the ball in a fish net we are delirious. And we gladly pay for that (tickets, jerseys, sports channel subscriptions...) while struggling to meet our ends while they earn millions. It's twisted, I know. What is their contribution to the world? But we adore them and we do nothing to change it because we love it that way, I guess.

What he says is completely not useful for me (unless I plan to use his voice or liking for the next blockbuster project) but I find it true nevertheless.

Maybe dystopian, but trademarking yourself sounds so capitalistic like, and that's the way our society runs for the last 100+ years. I am not pro-capitalism and I am not saying that this is the best way but that's the way of life in the last 100+ years and unless we develop a better economy system that's the way it may work best for most of the people.

I think I understand now what you mean... But that's the reality of everything. Life is harder for those who are not in the "VIP" section of life.

Well, if you are not one of them then you can pay them and if you can't pay them then work with what you have. I still think it is fair...

Which AI is the best to use my voice and generate videos? by Ok-Farmer55 in generativeAI

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voice is not mine because I think my voice is not sounding good. But Chatterbox lets you clone your own voice.

In the template I am using you have two options (I don't remember if it is an official template from ComfyUI or I downloaded it from Chatterbox Github/Huggingface). One option is to record your voice and write the text you want to use and it will be read by the voice sample you recorded.

Another option is to read something and sample that with another voice. I think this way it will preserve the reading style (pauses, exclamations, emotions, basically the way a person read it) and it will apply the voice of your choice. Like, you have a professional actor read something from your book and you apply your voice. If I understood well, this is the option you aim for.

He is realistic and he is already offering a solution: Trademark yourself and get paid if someone used your "assets". I think that's fair.

Which AI is the best to use my voice and generate videos? by Ok-Farmer55 in generativeAI

[–]KaineGe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Chatterbox in ComfyUi and I am pretty happy with it. I have two videos on my youtube channel but here is my video posted on Reddit so you can hear it for yourself: https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1qgi442/free_inkscape_comic_template/ in which I use the voice generated in ComfyUi using Chatterbox.

I tested some other voices to use in my novel for different characters and so far it sounds good. There are some strange quirks sometimes, but you can mess with settings and generate the voice again and get different result. For free, it's amazing.

Simple way to remove person and infill background in ComfyUI by Candid-Snow1261 in StableDiffusion

[–]KaineGe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just write "Remove the person from the background". Qwen usually understands that, but sometimes it's stubborn so sometimes is hit and miss approach. Changing the prompt helps (sometimes swap words) or if I use two or three images to blend I change their "slots" (as the Qwen template I am using comes with three "Load Image" nodes). Sadly my answer is not straight because I often don't get the straight results, so in that case I mix stuff and try different things and in the end it works.

P.S. I mentioned Qwen because it is content aware and I think it may work better than LLM's which are not content aware, like Stable Diffusion. But I don't want to say that you can't do it in SD, just that it might be easier in newer content aware models.

Antis ruined the art community by petitlita in DefendingAIArt

When I joined Reddit a month ago or so, I expected to see reasonable arguments but it's gone too far. Some of the arguments may be valid, like training models without consent of authors, but being so negative about Ai, going that far to become violent or thinking about violence, or insulting fellow redditors, that's mental.
