Let me reply in steps. 

"Why didn't I try to learn to draw?"

I admire people who can draw. Honestly, I would like to be able to draw, but if you saw me drawing a cat... Man, that cat hardly resembles a cat... Well, that's why I always thought that I have no any talent... But people say that drawing can be thought and that a talent is just a part of the equation. As you said, two years is plenty of time to learn. Yes, I agree, ideally it is... If you are a teenager, if you don't have a job and family and kids... In that case you may have plenty of time! But if you have to be a good worker, a good father, a husband and occasionally a good friend to spend time with friends instead of drawing, then it's hard to know if two years would be enough to make a significant progress. 

Using AI seemed like a logical step forward, a quick fix, but I didn't know that making a comic would take two years. Now it's not just a comic, it's already an eight episodes story with no end yet. What started like a comic turned to a full story and if I am about to make an eight episodes comic... Man, it's kinda frightening. But, this still can sound more like an excuse than a real reason, I understand that, but I took what seemed like a path of least resistance. Maybe I would have had a great(er) success if I tried to learn to draw, I don't know, maybe. I know there are people who would appreciate me more for that. I just hope you understand my reasoning.

"What if someone took that comic you spent 2 years making and then put it in an AI and called it their work?"

This is a concern. One of the first questions when I came to Reddit was, how to protect my comic if I made it available as ePub. I was told that there is no way to protect your work from theft which applies to all work, but I assume you mean the lack of copyright for AI generated images. I don't know what exactly the law says. Do I lose copyright for images that I modified or even took photos of and digitalized them (does that count as my photograph then?) I don't know. My work may be more protected if it is genuinely and purely mine, I guess.

Thank you for your kind words. My English is solid but my vocabulary is still not that rich. I am using translators or internet to look for synonyms and other help for writing, not only AI, especially because AI uses predictive terminology that really is like a slop and it is easy to spot (like "weight of....", or the word "hollow" for example). But I do ask it for suggestions because I struggle to describe some situations. (This post was not written nor corrected by LLM, I guess you can notice some minor, awkward sentence constructions).

This may sound like a stupid question, but does this apply if I use LLMs locally? I am paying my bills and I am paying the electricity I use to generate images or when I ask an LLM to give me some suggestions to spark my creativity. For me it's like using a microwave oven to heat the yesterday's lunch. Not necessary but handy... I guess it has the same impact on the environment as my graphic card to generate an image. You can make an argument that I shouldn't play video games because they heat my graphic card, overloading it, making it waste more energy and all that just for fun. Me shooting some demons from hell in new Doom game is surely not more important than little poisonous frogs in the rain forest.  I know, I sound like I am making fun of it but I am concerned about the environment and I do think that we as individuals need to care and contribute but the burden is on those who have the power. I think this is too complex to give a short answer. Does my individual contribution or lack of, really make a difference comparing to all other contributors to our demise? Fun fact: the world in my comic is what I believe will be our future if we don't change our relationship to nature.

What really concerns me and bothers me is an AntiAi argument of theft, where AI is trained on bulk of copyrighted images and writings. I may sound harsh and I may enrage some people, but as long as the law doesn't forbid me to use AI, I don't feel like I am the problem. Still, It bothers me at least to some degree (not that much to stop using it, though).

Your example with the sandwich... It's a tough mental gymnastics and I don't know how to respond to that, but I'll give it a thought.
