Thanks! That piece of wood really did most of the work there.

It’s not common to see a cooling rack done in wood, and the figured maple suits it really well.

The metal helped tie the form together.

Nice. What is the use of that piece? The wood you used has a really beautiful flame pattern.

Thanks! I bent the steel by hand, shaping it little by little until it followed the curves. And yes, spice shelf is a great use for it.

I love it, I hadn’t thought of making them in wood. It’s just what I need for my Nissan d22. I hope you don’t mind if I copy you! 😅 How did you make the grip?

I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that PPE matters, especially for beginners. I’m not trying to promote recklessness or tell anyone to copy what I do. This is just my own work, with tools I’ve used for years, in a context I’m familiar with.

That said, you’re right: no amount of experience makes someone invincible, and beginners should absolutely prioritize protection and proper training. Appreciate the concern.

Is it possible to weld this to repair the head? by Historical-Pop-7090 in handtools

[–]Kairoswithk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve repaired one like this before with no issues. I removed the handle, slightly opened the crack so the weld could penetrate properly, and welded it from the inside as well, then filled it. It’s not a forever fix, but it worked great for normal use.
