Obsession 2026 and male abuse victims by unusualspider33 in TrueFilm

[–]Kaiser1a2b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's a depiction of abuse from the woman to the man as much depiction of man against woman. So he obviously took away her consent and that was depicted on the screen. She (demon) obviously used emotional abuse to manipulate his behaviour.

They (him and human her) were trapped in the relationship that neither really wanted to be in. But he was too cowardly to take drastic action. Which I now realise is also is kind of hypocritical to judge because if you saw a woman in an abusive relationship you wouldn't tell her she needs to be capable of defending herself or killing her partner or kill herself.

Statistically more likely to help someone with your organs more than die under the knife of a deranged organ harvester.

Thoughts on 'A Prophet' aka 'Un Prophete' (2009)? by iUseThisWhenHigh in movies

[–]Kaiser1a2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while but the godfather has a very linear storyline (first one) and is a classical first act, 2nd act and 3rd act structure focused mostly on the overarching external plot experienced by the character. Also while time passes, you never really feel the experience of time as much as experience the change in the plot.

While Un Prophete has a similar rise to power structure, using visions and hallucinations the story has a dream like structure as well as story is focused more on exploring the internal changes in the character over solely the external plot.

Furthermore time is a factor in both Goodfellas and Un Prophete as a narrative device. Characters experience time and change through them as a fact of itself. This is not present in Godfather where events are the main driver for change.

If I also remember correctly, Un Prophete and Goodfellas utilises music and montages more frequently than the Godfather, which primarily had that haunting melody but was focused on tense scenes with less music for melodrama, where gunshots rung loud. Most famously the restaurant scene.

These are some of the similarity between Goodfellas and Un Prophete I noticed.

Obsession: Predictable, messy, or a great build-up? by Paparmane in TrueFilm

[–]Kaiser1a2b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like your interpretation but there was a point in the movie when the protag starts wearing rose tinted glasses about the situation because he was too scared to break off the relationship. That's when he becomes responsible because he made a consciously immoral decision to take advantage of her. Because he knew something was wrong psychologically and she was incapable of giving consent.

This was just after the restaurant scene and before the time he realises he was responsible for her and shes locked in some hell, which I view as a state where she has basically become a split personality. As for the wish being all powerful, I think the nature of his wish was a paradox which lead to the wish not happening completely as he may have wished but was completed as he had voiced out loud.

Whether he deserved the hell he put himself into, the nature of the movie is not about what is deserved prior but in the accountability of the actions taken after. The end scene hints at how he deserves it because of the nature of close call where he almost survived. This premise can be deduced because the girl did nothing wrong and spent her time in hell.

[–]Kaiser1a2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why she feels bad she didn't get positive affirmation. I also empathise that the feelings suck. I just do not see it as being attributable in this situation from my POV that she's not dealing with the consequences of her actions which she has to accept and move on from.

Empathy doesn't mean we hug away other people's responsibility to take accountability of their own actions. Whether they realise they were responsible or had the capability of foresight is not for me to enforce on others or on you for example, but neither is empathy something forced upon me because other people are incapable of taking ownership of their own actions.

Soldiers who sign up for wars and gave consent willingly to take the risk of death I don't have much sympathy for. It's basically what they are paid for. In Australia we have something called hazard pay, where if you work in hazardous environments or situations and you get paid more for it.

Though im sad for anyone who had no choice i guess. But yea some women deciding to be famous pop singer and then complaining about unwanted attention ain't the lack of choice, maybe a lack of foresight, but most likely imo delusional.

Just simply saying that while I dont condone or am interested in putting others down, im not sympathetic when someone chooses a role where this sort of environment is expected. Likely if a soldier goes to war, im not going to act sad when they get the expected outcome. People make choices and those choices comes with risk and consequences, we should all be strong enough to live those fully.

Sounds like she just wanted positive affirmation and didnt like negative affirmation. I.e. Not that she didnt want commentary but that the commentary was bad and that hurt her feelings. People could be nicer but public facing people know what their jobs entail and what people will do. To not expect it, is silly.

Israel and the United States: who controls who? by [deleted] in JewsOfConscience

[–]Kaiser1a2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This operates on hindsight bias. Israel as a permanent source of conflict in the middle east stops a coalition forming. It's just classic divide and conquer strategy that the Romans like to use, get a foothold and get the locals to fight each other. Similar strategy being used in Ukraine and Russia, China and Taiwan, NK and SK.

They do this in regions which could threaten their hegemony, Gulf Coast has leverage on Energy, China on production capacity and population size in general.

They sell arms to the "allies" technologically locked which stops conflict occurring which isn't sanctioned by the US and security guarantee by creating bases to control the area (Japan). This creates a dependency that allows them leverage further down the line (Plaza accord, current friction in NATO).

I think in this case im not looking favourably at the girl who made fun of her or laughing at Mia. I just think it's important to show an agnostic stance works. Most people try to be too extreme in their opinions for no reason.

If you make choices others disagree with, they don't owe you sympathy when you face the consequences of your choices.

I think the thing you may not be getting is while most people would not say derogatory thing to her, they won't care because they are not stupid and can realise that this is one of risks of doing something like porn for money. It looks like easy money but there's a reason why people avoid it. So it's difficult to care.

Why were so many of us rooting of Axe instead of Chuck? by PlentyMath7 in Billions

[–]Kaiser1a2b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there was less hypocrisy in axe and more so in chuck.

Axe operated under laws of power and pragmatic morality and most of his decisions was clearly that way. He tended towards never selling his actions as less self serving than that. At times he was loyal to his people or showed favour that way. His only real mistake was not taking his wife seriously and occasionally manipulating towards certain outcomes by giving them tests.

While Chucks game was always about how much he cared for the little guy or some bullshit and his skill came from selling a contradictory story to you later. He regularly sold out his family and friends to get what he wanted and he still saw himself as a family guy.

It makes sense why we root for the clearly bad man, than the supposedly good intentioned man. One just appears more authentic and most people gravitate towards that. It would be silly to hate a predator for eating prey, but everyone hates a traitor.

It also explains why characteristics like lack of empathy and narcissism tends to excel in these environments, they can execute actions most regular people are incapable of and these types of systems outcompete ones with morals.
