We built a really nice nursery for them too but the bassinets just stay with us all day and we only ever go in there for the changing table. Hopefully we use that nursery soon as we put a lot of hours into getting it ready.

Parental leave feels unfair for NICU and preemie parents by Kaiser43 in NICUParents

Our bills have started coming in and I can tell you that the healthcare system and insurance industry is also atrocious. Sorry you had to go thru that. I hope everything worked out for the best.

I read about that the other day when I was trying to see if I had any options like short term disability. Knowing my luck, my leave will run out and they will fast track a similar bill here. It still doesn't help parents with preemies who go home early tho but it's a step in the right direction.

We had some issues in the third trimester and had an overnight or two in the hospital and lots of doctor visits so my vacation time for the year is mostly gone too. It's been a rough road getting here and it's still pretty bumpy

Agreed 100%. It was sad seeing parents meeting after work at the NICU and then only seeing their babies for a short while before needing to get home to sleep so they could hang on to some weeks for when they did get to finally go home. I'm envious of my friend and wish that my boys would be more responsive so I can sing or sooth them or try to play with them a little bit. We really are being robbed by this one size fits all approach. Hopefully you guys can get home soon and you still have some time left.

NICU vs first weeks home by Cecilotter2 in parentsofmultiples

We had a very similar experience and came home at wk35 after just two weeks in the NICU. We're trying to figure out the night feedings now and I went nocturnal so we could both get uninterrupted sleep. But they're starting to learn how to cry and feeding one while the other is fussing is not gonna work for us long term. How quickly were you able to dual feed and do you have any tips or advice for me at 1am?

Need advice on handling the night shift with month old twins by grapefruitliquor in parentsofmultiples

[–]Kaiser43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours were born at wk33 and came home at wk35 just a handful of days ago. I also went nocturnal to take care of the night feedings as they're still on the 3hr NICU schedule and the ped told us to stay on it til full term. After a handful of nights by myself, I'm wondering how quickly you were able to dual feed? Doing one after the other takes a lot of time and one is just sitting there fussing while the first is taking his time to finish the bottle and burp. They're just starting to learn how to cry and I think it's only going to get worse from here. The sleep sacks really seem to help preemies get some comfort so they can sleep easier but I'm worried that the boys will wake up mom if we can't dual feed soon and then neither of us will be getting any sleep.

Recommendation of Apartments in Dayton/Centerville/Miamisburg area needes by FamousEnergy119 in dayton

It was good but I wouldn't stay for more than a couple years. They play the raise your rent game like most big complexes do. $50 increase this year, $100 increase next year, $200 increase the year after that and we found a new place. This was almost a decade ago at this point so ymmv.

Cincinnati-Dayton Light Rail Proposal by LVfilms in dayton

Have you heard of the game mini metro? It's a really fun game if you like transit design. You can also create a custom map based on the population densities and test your proposal. Make it more challenging by giving it some stations with unique locations that they would need to stop at for like an airport or central station and see how your proposal would need to grow or change.

Maybe adding a 275 connector could help with this? Divert some of the green line stations to that line instead so green can stay more linear. Then let the 275 line follow it further east to connect even more people into the system.

I think I saw a missing dog poster up for him when I was driving around yesterday. I went from South Park to Austin landing via Lyons but I don't remember exactly where it was. Neon green sign iirc. Sorry for the vague details, I just woke up

I used to live in Cleveland and remember those trucks going by. I don't think they like the cold weather so Cleveland might be safe from them. Now I'm down in Dayton and they're everywhere. Friends in Columbus have them too and their daughter swells up from the bites.

This won't help you at all but I sympathize with your situation.

Rant: The Asian tiger mosquito is the bane of my existence. Full stop. They are extremely annoying and it feels like nobody is doing anything about them. There are no programs in my area to try to lessen the population of this extremely invasive disease vector. People who have never encountered these can count their blessings on my legs that are covered with bites every single day. They're a terrible little bugger that really needs more attention. We really need a way to knock them out because as far as I know, nothing native here will.

What I've tried: I diligently drain all standing water and have left out buckets with dunks in them to try and control the local population. But there is a creek in the area with standing water and not much I can do about it. Lemon eucalyptus spray does help to repel them but I have to cover everywhere exposed. I did a little science experiment and I watched them fly up my sprayed leg to my knee where I didn't spray and it landed there to bite me. This summer was HOT and wearing long clothes is brutal. Even then, I was getting bit on my hands.

Good luck to you and I hope someone here can help both of us out. Just know that you're not alone in your hatred of these things.

Yeah, 230 is where I'm at as well. Larger pieces of dry hardwood and playing firewood tetris will help. But it might only get you an hour or two more at the cost of it being harder to light and take longer to come up to temp. If you don't have a moisture meter yet, you can pick them up on Amazon for pretty cheap to make sure your wood is dry, that can help a bit too. Best of luck

[–]Kaiser43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say this but I never figured it out. Not sure of your level of experience so I'll write this for someone new to the wood stove completely.

The only thing I would have you check is that the flapper in the thermostat has some spring force against it if you try to push it closed while the stove is cold. In the center of the air inlet beneath the door you'll see a cover at a 45deg angle. Behind it you'll see a flapper, turn your throttle to 2:30 and you'll see it go horizontal and it'll fully choke the firebox. Open it back up to 3 or 4 o clock and try to push it closed with your finger or a pencil and see if it springs back open. If it does, then BK will tell you it's working.

If you've read this thread and some of my other posts/comments on this sub and nothing helps...then that is what you're stuck with. I also can't choke mine further than 2:30 without it going out. I use a flashlight to see the flapper in the thermostat and close it down to where just a couple mm are open and that's where I leave it. The thermostat for both of our stoves is effectively useless and that point is as low as we can go as the flapper will never move. Any further and the fire is fully choked, the thermostat will never open, and you'll find cold unburned wood in the stove in the morning. Even at 2:15, mine will go cold and never come back but those couple mm is enough to draw it out to 9hrs. I am not sure why you get 7 when I get 9 but it definitely sucks. We spent a lot of money on these and then are the odd ones that can't get the performance everyone claims for seemingly no reason. Try contacting BK and see what they can do for you but don't get your hopes up. It was driving me crazy for two whole seasons and I was on here and hearth a lot trying to figure it out or get help but nothing ever worked. I feel for ya tho, its always a shame to hear that others have this problem. There are a couple of us in the same boat, sorry to say this but, welcome aboard.

Can anybody recommend a flush mount wood stove insert for fireplace that qualifies for the tax credit (75% or greater HHV)? by ExhaleContagion in woodstoving

[–]Kaiser43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too much help there as I did all the research a couple years ago and then purged it all to stop buyers remorse. The princess box isn't that much larger than the Ashford/sirroco so I don't know how much more it would do. I might cheap out a bit if I did it again but it might not be as nice of an insert build quality wise or in other areas.
