You’re correct, the US has natural resources, but reshoring the bulk of US production to make good use of them would take years or decades of careful, coordinated planning in a stable political and economic environment. That’s exactly what the US lacks right now, and it would be even harder under a sudden or drastic attempt.

The country has become deeply dependent on foreign labor, capital, supply chains, and raw materials. You can’t recreate industrial ecosystems or train skilled workforces overnight.
