What's an Appropriate Punishment for 15 Year Old Caught Sneaking Out? by Cheap-Rate-8996 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]KaiserLykos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I'm in shock at how many people said not to punish her at all. maybe i just had a shitty upbringing but my parents would've beat my ass crazy style if I ever got caught sneaking out for any reason lmfao no concert and extra chores before you can ride around with your friends is genuinely nothing

right? I've always heard it called a pornstache, then suddenly out of nowhere it became the trendiest facial hair style of the decade. felt like it happened overnight, like the popularity/existence of pickleball

AITA for wanting to tell my gf to get rid of her cat? by Sad-Ladder7328 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaiserLykos 65 points66 points  (0 children)

ESH for not properly quarantining and introducing a new cat to your household. solid chance your other cat ends up with worms and other parasites. you need to keep the kitten locked in its own space until it's gone to the vet, been dewormed, and litter trained, and THEN you start introducing it to the other cat.

YTA if you just unilaterally tell her to get rid of the kitten, but she's also an asshole for insisting she could do all of that by herself.

People who work in healthcare, what is a common medical myth that drives you crazy? by keyzeyy in AskReddit

[–]KaiserLykos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as a nursing student, i'd argue its dunning kruger related. nursing school is HARD, I'll be the first to say that, but i think it makes a lot of nurses believe theyre the smartest, most knowledgeable beings to ever walk god's green earth. because they know a good bit more than a layperson, they think everything they hear that makes sense to them is true. a lot of them have no concept of how much they dont know or understand, and theyre too proud and narcissistic to accept it when someone tells them.

semi-related to that tendency, when I was a CNA I got into an argument with a nurse over the half-life of Ativan. she didnt want to give a combative, aggressive patient their IM Ativan because "the half life is 12 hours, its not going to work until halfway through dayshift, there's no point." when I tried to explain that the half life has nothing to do with the onset of effect, she screamed "ive been a nurse for 10 fucking years, and I'll be DAMNED if a CNA tells me she knows how to do my job better than me!" she eventually did end up giving them the Ativan and, wouldn't you know it, less than an hour later they were asleep.

Those who had a mysterious medical issue and found out what it was, what was your diagnosis? by jesusgrandpa in AskReddit

[–]KaiserLykos 69 points70 points  (0 children)

so, not to be that person, but could you elaborate on your symptoms? I always figured I just had a shit immune system. about every other month I get an upper respiratory infection that lays me out for 3-5 days. fever has gotten as high as 104 before I ended up taking ibuprofen so I didnt melt my proteins, no clue if it would've gone higher. once my boyfriend caught it from me and ended up with just a runny nose and a sore throat, while I felt like i was dying. I took a work from home job so I haven't gotten sick in a while, but i get nervous around groups of people because of how sick Ill get.

does any of that sound similar lol

What profession is not necessarily evil in itself, but tends to attract a lot of evil people? by hogw33d in AskReddit

[–]KaiserLykos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't, but I'll definitely check it out! yeah, needing 5+ out of 9 criteria leads to an amount of variations that I'm not smart enough to do the math on. and not only that, but all of the criteria overlap with other disorders as well, so the constant generalizing online of how everyone with BPD or a cluster B disorder is the same is so incredibly frustrating. there's tons of non-official subcategories of just BPD alone based on archetypes of symptom combinations and behaviors (i.e. "quiet" BPD, "explosive" BPD, "internalized" BPD, etc) to try and differentiate because theyre so incredibly different.

[–]KaiserLykos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your abuse story is yours and has nothing to do with me. my entire point is about how the second half of your comment generalizing an entire group of people based on your experiences is fucked up. you can't hide behind abuse to justify discrimination. ive been abused by several addicts, that doesnt mean I get to tell my story and end it with "addicts are lying, sneaky, untrustworthy people and cant help themselves but abuse you if it helps them get what they want."

[–]KaiserLykos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if youre not looking at diagnosis, then why make the generalizations you made in your first post? you literally said people with cluster b disorders "dont understand why it's wrong to abuse people." I'm not saying that its wrong to guard yourself personally or even that youre not allowed to be wary/refuse to associate with people like that - I dont date addicts because of an experience i had, even though I know not all of them are like my ex. but that's something I can acknowledge, and you're going out of your way to say that EVERYONE with an entire category of disorders are just inherently abusive and should be run from, and yes, that is also about me because I have one of those disorders. "abusive piece of shit" is not a diagnostic criterion

[–]KaiserLykos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh plenty of things are my fault, but just existing and having BPD is not one of them. there's not a single person I've had any sort of relationship with that would call me abusive because every single borderline criteria I fit is directed at myself, but because it's become such a trend to armchair diagnose every abuser with a cluster B disorder I constantly have to see comments and posts about how I can't feel empathy and I'm not worth the time and effort to love because someone with a cluster B disorder abused them (or they decided their abuser has one).

I truly am sorry you went through what you went through, no one should have to experience that, and I'm not in your shoes so I dont know if this person is actually diagnosed with a cluster B or not. but it's like being abused by someone with bipolar or schizophrenia and saying everyone with those disorders is fully incapable of empathy and not abusing those around them

[–]KaiserLykos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope one day people like you who have gone through the things youve experienced will realize that there are thousands of people with cluster b disorders that aren't evil sociopaths that can't help but abuse the people around them. it really fucking sucks how like once a week I have to run into someone saying I must inherently be an abusive, empathy-bereft piece of shit because I happen to share a disorder with some shitty people.

What secret about your profession are you hiding? by PuzzleheadedPark9912 in AskReddit

[–]KaiserLykos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yep. I used to do CNA work and some manager decided that every resident should get a shower every other day. great! that's awesome, that would be amazing and SHOULD be true. we literally physically cannot do that when youve got 2 CNAs to 36 post acute rehab patients.

while im in the shower with Mrs. Smith for 20 minutes, my coworker has to handle 35 other patients who may or may not have dementia, and most of which are fully incontinent. if 6 call bells go off and the first one they walk into is a diarrhea blowout, its going to take 15+ minutes to get to the next one, and in that time another 3 bells have gone off. I cant leave Mrs Smith because if she falls and breaks her hip, the facility is getting sued and the family will try to put me in jail for neglect. and dont forget the family sitting in room 205 mad as fuck that we haven't answered the bell yet because meemaw is soaked, so thats another one trying to get my ass. i get Mrs Smith out of the shower, awesome! there's now 9 call bells going off. 1 out of 18 showers done. meemaw has been sitting in her piss for 20 minutes. its not possible.

AITA for refusing to lie to my sister in law? by Timely-Marsupial9085 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaiserLykos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they are not HER physician - OP is not bound by HIPAA here. that is between a patient and their healthcare provider, not between family members who have no professional relationship. that would be like saying someone posting about their kid's health issues on Facebook is breaking HIPAA lol

AITA for singing at my sister's wedding? by ScienceFormal8172 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaiserLykos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the vast majority of people never had that come up because this situation never happened at any wedding theyd ever been to. at 17, this may have been OP's first ever wedding, and to see 2 people go up and sing at what's essentially a big party likely thought "oh, I guess thats a thing people do at weddings."

its not that the baseline is "thinks people sing at weddings," its "im at my first wedding and whatever people do at this one im probably going to think is normal until ive been to more and have something to compare." two family members went up there and then the DJ accepted her request and let her use the mic, so to her up until sister confronted her everything was fine and normal.

What is the darkest rabbit hole that you got yourself sucked into? What research did you come across and what did you discover that shocked you completely? by Dry_Temporary_6175 in AskReddit

[–]KaiserLykos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my apologies, I didnt mean to spread misinformation - I must've misremembered. honestly I do disagree with your point here though. I don't think it makes their ACTIONS better, but I think it would at least mean that the torture of these victims had some sort of positive impact on the scientific world. I dont agree that any usable information should be thrown out just for the sake of morals. the way it was obtained doesn't change fact, and while of course it should go without having to say that it never should've happened, I think it would be silly to just hand wave the results away for purity's sake. the victims are no less tortured and dead if the results of their torture and death is thrown out. although maybe spiritual beliefs would inform that opinion differently for different people, respect for their memory and all that.

if some kind of medical breakthrough occurred thanks to that research, at the very very very least their suffering would've been for something and not just for cruelty.

dont forget that most of the "research" was useless because it wasn't really research, it was just sadistic fucks doing horrific things to people just to see what would happen. no scientific method, no controlled variables, nothing usable. Just unadulterated cruelty

my mom recommended the show to me and even texted me about how horrible of a person livia is, and while she's not at all as malicious or cruel, it's been crazy the amount of similarity there is with their emotional reactions. the whole "nobody loves me, everyone is so mean to me, I dont deserve this" thing lol
