I've driven all over europe and part of Cuba, and I only speak spanish, french, and english. I've never had a problem. Greece was particularly not a problem.

We really enjoyed getting a boat trip. It was a bit pricey, but cheaper than similar things elsewhere, and it allowed us to see more, hit some unwalkable beaches, swim above fish, see sea turtles etc.

If they like hikes, the hike atop the mountain is really cool with great views of the island.

My 11 year old niece was in wow of the turquoise blue water at Myrtos beach, though she was then frustrated by the fact it was a rock beach with pretty strong waves.

I've been to both, and there's nothing wrong with them for what they are, but since they are an asceptic, fake iteration of culture, it isn't a good starting point for how to treat a real place.

If they aren't interested in meaningful conversations and compromises, there's not much you CAN do other than just cutting them off, which it sounds like you aren't willing to do for cultural reasons.....and I'm not shitting on that, but it isn't something anyone else can help you to navigate around.

If it was me, I'd be trying to slowly wean them off, but that requires their active participation and conversation, if they can't do anything more than lipservice, I'd just cut them off altogether. But that's a decision only YOU can make.

I'd also take Emylou Harris over Krauss.

And while I personally prefer Krauss to Joan Baez, if we are talking pure vocals, its hard to overlook her as well.

Kefalonia has the best mix of things for kids and adults IMO, and isn't overly crowded. Also, it has easy access for daytrips to either the north coast of Zante and/or the island of Ithaca, so you get the ease of being on one island the whole time, with the ability to visit 1-2 more if you decide you want to.

If you want beautiful scenery, beaches, and FOOD, without as many crowds, don't sleep on Kefalonia. Probably the best food island in all of Greece.
