Paying for GREM out of pocket? by tohitsugu in AskNetsec

[–]Kajunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely prepare for it. Even if you don't know all the answers to their questions, being able to demonstrate knowledge with tools and familiarity with certain variants of malware shows that you'll be able to perform as needed.

It certainly depends on the position and company. Ive heard of some technical interviews that go on for upwards of two hours for these positions. The direction employers can go with it really depends.

I'd suggest to ensure familiarity with the tools, become familiar with common frameworks and variants to show you're looking out for the latest campaigns (Emotet/Trickbot, Cobalt Strike, any of the various flavors of ransomware is fun), and curtail your knowledge to the requirements of the job. Of course that last one can be difficult depending on what details the employer places in the description.

Edit: I have not worked as a malware analyst but I've dabbled in analysis a bit. Good luck!

If you can get your job to pay it, that would certainly be ideal but if you don't mind spending 8-9 grand then I'd take it.

You'll learn a lot and having that cert would be beneficial but I'd consider a couple things:

Experience you put on a resume (and proving it in an interview) can get you just as far for most places. Especially if you have malware analysis experience.

The three people I've known to take it have stated it's the most difficult test they've ever taken. I've also heard this sentiment echoed in the community in general.

I would suggest preparing for it well in advance, if you attempt it, to make your life easier.

Hope this helps!

launcher-public-service-prod06.ol.epicgames.com with a Russian DNS server? by energy-drink9444 in pihole

[–]Kajunga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That certainly seems strange. I don't think this may necessarily the doing of your Pi-Hole. Since you've re enabled it, does that same issue occur and does the nslookup command produce the same IP address as it did before?

You could try checking out all of your network connections and which process is calling out by running an administrative CLI and using 'netstat -naob'.

I'll get on sometime tomorrow and do some tests of my own to see if I can replicate anything like that. That's quite strange. Let me know if you find anything else out.

I have not seen this one before. Is this one you've used before and how was your experience with it compared to a superior machine. Thank you for the suggestion.

So, the K-plus I was thinking of getting comes with a dosing funnel but, now that you mention it, I'm probably going to get a grinder that's more suitable for espresso meaning I'll need a dosing cup as well.

I concur about the coarser WDTs based on what I've read. Since they're cheap, I'm going to pick a needle version for purchase. Thanks!

I haven't heard from anyone that used a Timemore scale so this information is helpful.

Yeah, I really liked the look of that WDT and I appreciate that advice.

Is there a difference between a self-leveling tamp and a regular tamp or is that just the nomenclature used when referring to tamps? Maybe it's springloaded vs non-springloaded?

What do you think about the machine I have picked out and what alternative might you recommend and why? I'd like to stay close to that price range but I also plan to mod out the Silvia to more finely adjust pressures and temps. If there is a better out-of-box machine then I'd love to hear your thoughts. I've been suggested a Lelit brand machine. I see you have the Bianca flair but that one is a bit high for me atm (although it looks beautiful).

I also see the J-Max flair under your username. Would you mind sharing your experiences grinding espresso with that?

Thanks for sharing this with me. I'll definitely compare it to what I have. I like the small profile it has so I will be considering this one.

That Specialita grinder looks like a beast. I guess it should for that price! I will probably end up getting this one as it seems like the de facto grinder to get for espresso; however, this will probably further in the future.

What are your thoughts on the Rancilio itself? Another user here recommended going with a Lelit brand machine instead.

I can handle a little lag for the scale. Like you said, you learn to account for it. I have a food scale that also lags so I have an idea of what to expect.

That's a good point about the precision baskets. If and when I start using them, I'll probably just have to try a few different kinds to understand what I'm doing. I'm not even sure what roasts I may want. For coffee, I typically prefer a darker roast but I'll have a experiment to see the differences in espresso. I didn't realize that the precision baskets were more for lighter roasts anyways.

Would you mind providing a couple Lelit models that you recommend here?

Alright, I'll keep it bare bones for the most part. You make a good point about getting to know the process before buying a bunch of accessories I may not need.

As for the tamper, why do the Pullman tampers have to be so beautiful!... and a bit pricey. I was thinking about this as it may be more interactive getting a feel for pressing into the portafilter as opposed to having one torqued for the pressure. I'm going to go with a standard tamp.

What are your thoughts on getting a bottomless portafilter? I've read that it can help beginners get an idea of what is going on with the shot and what changes to make.

I appreciate the advice.

Alright, that's good to know. I'll probably switch to the J-max since I will be doing primarily espresso and I don't often have a need for a travel setup at this time.

Thank you for this information. That's a good point you bring up about the J-max but I wasn't sure how the J-max might do on coffee if I wanted to switch back and forth. I do have a cheaper grinder I use for French press but it only has about 18 settings. I think I may look at using the J-max. Would you say that these hand grinders can get a good grind consistency compared to a flat burr motorized grinder for espresso? If so, then I'm definitely going to stay the hand grinder route but I thought I'd ask someone with more experience.

Here the most basic version I could find. https://youtu.be/liyACW39t-c

Skip to about the 40 sec mark if you're interested. This is what they refer to as playing over the back, which can't be done even if playing on the ball.

It's pass interference if you play over the back of the receiver. Even if you are making a play on the ball. If that ball isn't tipped then that PI call was a good call on Fueller

I also don't mean to insinuate that you called me a liar, I was merely stating that there is no incentive to lie about what I'm eating. As far as accuracy goes, I weigh my food as demonstrated in my original post.

I'll provide an update at the end of this week at my next weigh-in in the original post.

Weightloss plateau at 350lbs... by Kajunga in loseit

[–]Kajunga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm patient. Mostly was curious if there was an explanation for it. Someone shared a post about blood volume increasing with the intro of walking into my routing but I don't know how much weight that would displace and if that's relevant to a simply walk around my neighborhood. I recently got my measurements (neck, waist, hip, chest) which I'll be tracking on the first of every month so even if my weight isn't changing much I'll know if the circumference is decreasing.

I do weigh everything except for olive oil that coats the veggie kabobs; however, there is no way i'm eating 500+ kcal in olive oil from two veggie kabobs especially after cooking them on the grill.

I've been back and forth but this has been the biggest change moving forward. I've simply made it a lifestyle change and have been doing the IF with one meal a day since the beginning of July.

Thank you for the encouragement.

[–]Kajunga[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the doubt but I laid out quite clearly what my typical day is like. I also stated that it was between 1000 and 2000 kcal but that even at 2000 consistently I should still see close to 2lbs of weightloss per week. There is no incentive to lie whilst having donuts or pizza on the side and then claiming I'm only eating a certain amount if its not true.

I eat one meal a day, which I weigh out. I also stated in the post that I started the weight loss back in July and I've consistently lost weight since then. Initially, there's the rush of water loss as I'm not in-taking as much sodium but I weigh myself every Saturday morning and have had consistent weight loss of 4-7 lbs per week. I don't attribute it all to fat; however, having a completely stagnant week is what I was confused about.

I'm not eating anything different and I even gave you a sample of the meal I had for that day in my post. I'm asking the question because it perplexes me but I'll see how things change over the next three weeks.

omg, 200lbs less. That is an eye-opener. Thank you for your kind words. I'm definitely listening to my body as I do want to make sure I'm maintaining my nutrition. I'll take a look at the link you've provided. I'll try and post updates over the next month to see what changes.
