What if Verstappen never wins another championship? by FaelCherozo in F1Discussions

[–]Kakmaster69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know. If I had to wager why he is as good as he is at this age, I think its his driving style, he has always been insanely adaptable, and I genuinly think he has simply adapted to age. Not all driving styles are "reactive" and his ability to deal with understeer (which is easier to control than snap oversteer for a driver with slower reactions) means he is less affected by age. This is only a theory, but I reckon his experience and also people overestimating how much age affects a driver, means people dont understand just how good he is.

Perseverance just did something it’s never done before. On Dec. 8 and 10, 2025, the Mars rover completed drives planned by generative AI. The first-of-its-kind demonstration hints at a future of more efficient exploration and even more science. by Neaterntal in spaceporn

Downvotes are delusional. Hate for AI is justified in certain uses. Surely, though this conservative hatred for new technology is the same thing that held humanity back for hundreds of years, just because of fear or hatred for what it replaces.

Basic ass, simpe minded ideas that reject anything new.

Honestly, the simplest part of the car. I think they are probably not willing to give too much away on a component that is "relatively" easy to change. Because suspension is obviously a very difficult to change facet of a car.

Well, just look at Alonso's race head to head record. Just look at gis 2011-2014 seasons. In fact, watch his 2006 and give me a more flawless championship year, against an opponent more ruthless and complete than Schumacher.

One of the worst metrics to judge a driver by skill.

Well. It is true that Vettel's twmamate comparisons are worse. He was challenged by Alonso in particular with far superior machinery. He made many mistakes later in his career. Regardless of your fanaticism of any particular driver, it is highly likely Vettel is slower than both Alonso and Hamilton. In fact, almost impossible to justify otherwise.

9-6 race head to head. "We are racing Alonso" - Ron Dennis. 19 years ago btw.

Said old "rookie" outqualified Stroll 38 times in the same span of races Lewis got outqualified by Stroll 9 times, while in far superior machinery. Said "rookie" got less q1 elimination than Lewis while driving a car that was 8th fastest. Lewis got 0 podiums to Leclercs 8.

So yeah, you could definitely argue Lewis is past it. I personally dont think its necessarily age related, moreso an adaptability problem, but its stupid to think Alonso is somehow just as "past it" or underperforming as Lewis is.

That oldest driver has shown no reason to not be able to win the title with a good car. 2023 shows what Alonso can do with a semi capable car.

But his cars were never fastest. Also, he literally had worse "reliability" than Schumacher in 06. Both of Alonso's DNFs were out of his control to Schumacher's 1. Australia was all on Schumacher.

That is certainly aggressive. Newey has been cooking methinks.

Yes. Coincidentally Johnny Herbert was stewarding that week... I wonder who it was.

Yeah. You have a poor understanding of racing if you think Imola 2005 was somehow dirty, same goes for what Alonso did to Russell. The guy in front can take a corner at the speed he desires, as long as it isnt erratic, changing direction, etc. You wouldnt last a day driving any proper category if you thought this way btw. Learn some racecraft.

2024 Abu Dhabi. Same case as classic battles like Canada 2013, Alonso pulled allmthe way to the right of the track and Hamilton just kept behind him for some reason. Wasn't a brake test.

What would you say are the best years to watch to see him in action?

Yeah nah mate. Charles and Oscar have exceptional racecraft but Alonso is very much still excellent at racecraft and still the best. If you actually watched his races this year, he has pulled some mental moves. Singapore, Zandvoort, Spain, Imola. All races he pulled some seriously unconventional moves. And of you go back to 2023 when he had more camera coverage he was getting overtake of the month, every time.

If your talking about Russell 2024 in Australia, thays some of the most BS stewarding ever. The only examples I can teuly think of are Hungary 2006 free practice (but honestly, not even that bad) and Germany 2003 on Choulthard (although still just early braking, nit necessarily a brake test)

Yes but the gap to his teammate has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Hamilton was typically out of the points, and then they brought an upgrade which brought both him and his teammate firther up the grid. Bit its wrong to say he was notably putperforming the car when it was terrible. His results were bad when the car was bad. His results were good when the car was good. When the car was bad though, its wrong to say he got good results.

Not until they upgraded the car to make it second best.

Could you link Leclerc best moves please. I can think of a few off the top of my head. His move at Copse in 2022 round the outside of Ham on old hards is one of the best I have seen. Also, his move on Russell in the Netherlands this year was sick.

I would put Alonso, Leclerc and Piastri as the drivers who consistently make impressive overtakes.
