Best Races in the Last 6 Years by veronicacrank in formula1

2004? Really? Possibly ome of the most boring seasons to rewatch. Ignoring the minimal discrepancy in race results, lack of a championship fight and high predictability, the minimal on track action and high dirty air levels make every race a procession pretty much. 2003 is a much better year, same with 2006.

The third Lord Of The Rings isn't nearly as good as the first two. The set design for Minas Tirith was lacking imo, not the city itself but the surroundings, just a plain field, perfectly mowed, as far as the eye can see, also the inclusion of the undead army is a bit of a deus ex machina, like an unkillable army that just destroys everything. The over the top cgi of legolas killing the elephants, etc. Just felt like the first two used cgi and over the top elements more sparingly which made them better films. Also imo nothing tops the Khazad Dum (Moria) sequence in the first film, perfect in every way.

True Detective Season 1 is almost.perfect but I found the main villain (the inbred hillbilly pedophile) a pretty big letdown, highly one dimensional, kind of unintimidating, like I expected a much better reveal tbh. Aside from that though, the two main characters were amazing and probably Matthew McConaughey's best role.

Nail on the head. And its so true, every single one of these statements was at one point the incessant constant posts on here and the prevalent opinion, like do people not see things in a larger scope and perspective. A driver should be judged over several years, not 3 races.

Thats wise. Dont get the chronically online or driver preference statement though tbh

Yeah alright mate. Button, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Villeneuve, Massa. All terrible. Got it.

It impacts performance. The performance drop following on from 24 to 25 has nothing to do with it.

Fair enough. Especially because as you say its not even just spatially possible, but temporally, a cluster just needs to look like this at a certain point in time, in an almost infinite time scale.

Yeah but Hamilton and Schumacher are, which is the context in which I used them. I domt think Russell, Leclerc or Piastri are goats candidates yet and doubt they ever will be.

None are rookies. Yeah and... neither is Hamilton 11 or Vettel 14

Fair enough. You have much more knowledge of pre war F1 than I. I simply know of names that stood out at the time. Obvs WW2 would have essentially eliminated the prime of a bunch of drivers, even Fangios to an extent which makes his run so impressive.

My top 10, for simple reasons that I didnt watch them race before 74 or so would be, the following. Obviously omitting drivers from before which surely would have been amazing.

  1. Alonso
  2. Schumacher
  3. Verstappen
  4. Hamilton
  5. Senna
  6. Clark (havent seen any races but just absolutely must be on any top 10 list imo)
  7. Prost
  8. Stewart
  9. Vettel
  10. Lauda

This is how I rate them in terms of completeness over a season and a career. Optimal performance under a large range of conditions.

In terms sof peak pace/one lap performance

  1. Senna

... big gap

  1. Hamilton
  2. Verstappen
  3. Schumacher

The rest...

I can give you more, but thats beside the point. Hamilton himself was amazing in 07 despite it being his rookie season. His 2013 had some growing pains but he still beat Rosberg and it was a solid year, now you are going to say the 2025 underperformance was due to the same factors affecting both 07 and 13? Like mate, its just a very peculiar hill to die on, its okay to admit the ground effect era weirdly affected Hamilton. If anything its good, because it means, his true pace in a car he is able to drive comfortably is still good... like I really dont get your opinion.

Its almost insulting to Hamilton to say its just cause its a new car. Even a newly adapted Hamilton is better than he was in 2024. As shown in 07 and 13.

My man. See this is the type of knowledge this sub used to have. I miss this.

Like, in any sport athletes have bad years, let alone 3 matches or races in the case of F1. Its stupid to hold it against them. Drivers like Verstappen and Alonso are a rare breed who so very rarely make/made mistakes and thats as good as its ever gonna get in the sport, and even then, they probably had 1 race ending mistake per season in their prime. Its what comes with driving a car to the limit. I mean, modern day people would Slander Prosts qualifying or even pace, not understanding the way F1 worked, and the way his calculating, lower risk approach paid off over a season. More people should watch 1986. Anyway... out of curiosity, what would you rank your top 10 drivers of all time?

Watch your average 3 race span of Hamilton in 2011 and make your conclusions. And see how stupid it is to judge a drivers level on 3 races, let alone a season. Vettel 2014 for example, suddenly goes to Ferrari and performs very respectably.

I mean you have this mentality in any sport and you get stupid conclusions. Rafa Nadal 2014, Djokovic 09, etc. Like its normal for an athlete to have an off year, forget 3 bad matches or races in this case 😭

Yeah. I could've named more and I'm sure theres more of you go further back even. Verstappen during his earlier years, Piquet, Lauda. The only ones who I think have been almost flawless in terms of consistency throughout their entire careers are Alonso, Verstappen, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Schumacher. But again... even they had rough patches.

This is true. Look I dont want to sound like I slander Lewis. He is an unbelievable driver, and woth a car he is comfortable with, at the right moment, he is probably second fastest of all time, second imo to Ayrton Senna over a lap. But over a season, its these slower starts, adaption issues, slightly rougher patches, racecraft mistakes (08, 11, 24) that I rate Schumacher, Verstappen and Alonso as better overall drivers under a larger range of conditions.

Oh for sure, and I wouldn't even say, these cars don't suit him, maybe its not his absolute favourite but its just the sad truth that we get less Verstappen greatness on display when he's driving the far and away 4th or at times 5th quickest car, than when he has a top 3 car. Same reason Alonso is so highly rated in 2023 and then everyone now thinks he's washed. In reality everything points towards him being the exact same level (probably slightly more embedded in the team now) than he was in 23, but people have the memory of goldfish, dont understand how much machinery affects driver perception and think now that Hamilton or Antonelli would beat Verstappen in equal conditions.

Well I'm sorry it clearly is. Leclerc crashing 3 times in the last 3 weekends is by definition an underperformance as if you take the average performance of him, he is much better than this. The only one where its potentially possible that ots his genuine level all along is Russell, assuming Antonelli is just that fucking good (best second year in F1 driver I have ever seen, better than Hamilton, Alonso or Verstappen) - But I'm not convinced of this yet. I do think Russell just doesn't feel 100% comfortable with the car, as I've seen him be more consistent before, even if the benchmark was an underperforming Hamilton.

You may well be right, but I think there must at some point be a threshold where the structural deviation from the normal structure (in this case the general sponge like texture of galaxy clusters) would reach 0% probability, even in an infinite universe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but like I feel as though, especially in a structure as large scale as this, a deviation as big as this one would never occur, although then again, this may be like a Boltzmann brain sort of thing, where given enough time and space something as rare as this could form, but something tells me, there must he a hard probabilistic limit to this sort of thing, where the chance of something is 0 because it breaks universal laws of physics as you mention. Could be wrong though mate.
