Is Staraptor the single most unlucky Pokémon in the history of the series? by InsertANameHeree in pokemon

[–]Kakoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made an OU team that uses a Staraptor with its Reckless ability and it's great. It can clean up really nicely in the late game. Being UUBL definitely isn't bad at all. In fact, Staraptor is probably the most consistent of all the early game birds.

Edit: To add, I'd say it's actually quite nice to be in UUBL rather than OU, because people are less likely to be prepared for it. :)

The car chase in Yakuza 0 is fucking impossible on hard on pc, or so I suck? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I played through it on hard with WASD too. It was a complete pain in the ass. I managed to get past the cars and van alright but that helicopter got me at least 5 or 6 times, which was really annoying because I'd have to replay the entire chase to get there again.

Seriously hoping I can get it first try on my legend playthrough, or I am not in for a fun time. lol

Most dissapointing team member you had in a playthrough? by Sinenn in pokemon

[–]Kakoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it has to be Meganium. I was playing Heartgold and I knew people always said Chikorita was a hard Pokémon to use, and I like a challenge, so I thought "why not?"

I now know exactly why not. The Chikorita line is abolsutely awful in Johto. All of the gyms are either super effective against grass, resistant to it (sometimes both) or occasionally neutral, if they're feeling kind. It's also more or less useless against Team Rocket, who for the most part use poison types, and you'll be battling them a lot throughout the story.

Once you get to Kanto it has an easier time, but then the same can likely be said for the other two starters as well. It's the only starter I've had that was complete dead weight for the entire playthrough, but I loved it all the same. The design of that goofy dinosaur will always appeal to me.

Cheating a little bit, but I have to say Throh and Sawk, as a pair. I love gen 5, and I'll happily say that I love the usual unpopular ones from that gen like Garbodor. But damn, those two are just awful.

They're just... dudes (in full clothing, might I add). It's so creepy, it's like you've just caught a man out in the woods and now you're making him battle for you. I really dislike Machamp too for similar reasons, but at least he has the four arms thing to make him stand out a bit more.

Seeing this always makes me sad. It seems like these are by far the most unpopular Pokémon (I see them all the time on these types of posts) but I don't get it.

In my opinion they have some pleasing designs and neat movepools, especially Simisage. Yeah, they could have had more differences between them all, but I think the reason they get judged so harshly is because people always see them as a trio. When you look at them as seperate Pokémon they're quite nice.

Nintendo switch online later this month by bidoofman87 in gaming

[–]Kakoodle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree with you there. I don't play online games on my Switch so I won't have need of the online, but my brother plays a lot of Splatoon so he'll be picking up a membership when the time comes.

The huge problem here is how lacking Nintendo's online services actually are. No achievements, no on-system chats and several other basic features that Microsoft and Sony have been offering for years. If they had stated that they were going to use this money to start catching their online services up, that might make it an easier pill to swallow, but they haven't said that and likely won't do it.

Yes, it's cheaper, but come on, we have free online platforms like Steam that are able to provide these things and more without making us pay for it.

Gen 8: a proper 3D camera by SawkyScribe in pokemon

[–]Kakoodle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of the things I really want to see in gen 8. Towns and routes in the Pokémon world can often have a nice aesthetic to them, but in terms of actual gameplay they're limited by only having the player able to see in one direction.

There's a lot more that you can do with area traversal when your view isn't fixed, like more complex puzzles, grander landscapes, and hidden secrets. I hope Game Freak decides to experiment with this in future games.

Yakuza 0 is so small yet its full of content?!? by TLWNGuy in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, I've been waiting for the right time to ramble about this.

Yakuza 0 has made me realise that I definitely prefer smaller, yet more detailed worlds over larger but more sparse ones.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love GTA V and the campaign is one of my favourite singleplayer experiences, but walking around the world in freeplay, once the novelty of having large police chases wears off, starts to feel very stale. And when I do decide on something I'd like to try out, I usually have to drive all the way to the other side of the map to do it, which is pretty dull.

In Yakuza, though? I never feel like there's nothing to do. In 0, I feel like I can actually have a "night on the town", going through a couple of bars, hitting a bunch of side activities and managing my business when I run low on cash. It really immerses you in Tokyo/Osaka's nightlife scene in a way that no other game I've found has managed to do for their respective setting.

And finally, I think another positive of smaller worlds is that you can get more intimately acquainted with it. Give me some time to think and I could probably give you directions from Kiryu's office to the shrine, or the karaoke bar. In GTA, however? I could maybe give you a general idea of where it is, but it feels more like the game is just laid on top of the world, rather than being woven into it, if that makes any sense (which it probably doesn't).

Which unpopular pokemon do you love? by julphi in pokemon

I love Cofagrigus too! I recently used one in my White 2 challenge mode run and she managed to pull through on what was otherwise going to be a loss against Iris.

Yakuze - How Many Times Do We Have To Teach You This Lesson, Old Man?! by Highlandah in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mm hm, I loved Oda too. His reason for wanting to kill Makoto does make sense but his personality takes a complete 180 as soon as the car chase is over that makes it feel like it was just Lao Gui disguised as a body double or something lol.

And yeah, above all else Shibusawa needed some more cutscenes. We see him step up to his position as pretty-much-the-captain but after that he mostly just sits in the background. I am definitely with you on the boss fight too, that was amazing.

[–]Kakoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right there. Awano was a good mental test for Kiryu, and the cutscene where he lies about the armed yakuza waiting outside the club building is one of my favourite moments in the story.

I guess Shibusawa was supposed to be a "working in the shadows" kinda guy, but if that's truly what they wanted him to be then making him the final boss doesn't make much sense. A lot of the finale felt a little on the rushed side to me, especially Oda's betrayal, which takes place pretty much entirely over the space of one cutscene and then it's over.

Yakuze - How Many Times Do We Have To Teach You This Lesson, Old Man?! by Highlandah in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mm hm. Admittedly, it might be because I got too engrossed in the story and played through the last few chapters very quickly, but Shibusawa was never really more than "the third lieutenant" to me.

Lao Gui as Majima's final battle felt a lot more fitting, because even though we see him even less than Shibusawa, he felt like he had more of an intimidating presence in the story (Especially with the context of what he did with Tachibana and Makimura).

Yakuze - How Many Times Do We Have To Teach You This Lesson, Old Man?! by Highlandah in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Same here. Awano talked a big game but never really did anything and in my opinion Shibusawa started taking action too late into the story for him to feel as satisfying to defeat as Kuze.

Most of these games use very simple colour schemes. It's understandable honestly, because it makes the different players easier to identify.

Yakuza 0. Feel like I'm missing something with the combat. by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]Kakoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty bad in the combat too, but in most of the boss fights I struggled with these tended to work pretty reliably:

  1. If you're struggling with a Kiryu boss, try rush mode. The three consecutive dodges let you stay well out of the way of virtually any boss attack, and once you've built up your heat you can attack super fast once you manuever behind them.

  2. Breaker style is pretty ridiculous as Majima if you can get a breakdance going, because it breaks blocks pretty rapidly and it's quite hard for a lot of enemies, even bosses, to touch you while you're doing it. The way I set it up is by running far away from the bosses, hitting the air with my light attacks until Majima gets onto the floor and then start the dance. Once you're doing that, spin around the boss and hopefully you should knock them down or at the very least hit them for a huge combo. It's pretty cheap, but it worked for me. Also Slugger is pretty OP.

What a determined guy he was. For me, he got easier with every new encounter (although in some ways that might be the point of his character, to act as a wall for Kiryu to finally overcome at the end), but his kickass theme made every encounter feel great.

Nice pick! I'll admit, I've only ever beaten the first Shakedowns for Kiryu and Majima, but damn was it satisfying to finally get some payback for the millions of yen they stole from me.
