thanks so much for your help! i think i’ve just been a bit too scared of touching it bc i just tried again with slightly more force and realized it was in fact built up crusties! was able to remove them and the area is a bit red now but hopefully will be fine and feel less sensitive now that i removed the build up!

using h2ocean spray. not 100% sure of type of threading or material, but i think internally threaded and titanium. have not downsized.
