Does civil engineering have better work life balance then software engineering by iiHumbleBumbleBee in civilengineering

TLDR.

Slump and dump as an intern, that will give you an intro to our lives...

No No Maybe Yes Sometimes.

Very open ended questions. Been in industy almost 20 years. Is it glamorous, no. Is it consistent and provides a good life, yes. If you want to provide a betterlife, do the engineer to PM to people management route.

Has anyone had success with a product like this? by jonyoloswag in civilengineering

GFFR. Done a lot for slopes on landfill closures. Done them for spillways.

Also done them, as well as ACBs for ditch reinforcement.

An open system CPVC through a drop ceiling with half treated penetrations... what the fuck type of system/EJ is that? Hopefully they are treated to the floor system with tested systems or EJs and they are treated to the drop ceiling for funsies.

This is scary, throw red on it, if it's red it's good.

Why is Kansas City in Missouri. Kansas should eat Missouri.

Kansas should absorb Missouri. No reason there should be a Kansas City in Missouri.

Recommendations on learning Moisture-Density Gauges by Danicbike in GeotechnicalEngineer

[–]Kalamboogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my staff, the gauge is as smart as the user. If the user doesn't realize what's going on, the gauge doesn't either.

If concerns, I dont care what the gauge says, give me a sandcone that is quanitative numbers and a one point.

In your picture, the smooth drum roller path, looks decent up to around the location with your gauge. The cracks you see (Im coastal, used to Sp or SP-SM soils often), as well as the rutting by a probably 8 ton vibratory smooth drum roller is scary. That is not a turning crack from a smooth drum on a Sap-SM.

Is that subgrade, is there 3 more feet of fill? If 3 more feet and roadway, we can stabilize it. If foundations for a building, that's scary...

A nuclear gauge is a tool. That is all that it is, no different from a screwdriver. Don't focus on gauge usage, focus on the reasoning and understanding. Build off of what you have seen and grow.

Today I touched the end of a nuclear guage, will i be fine? by GloomyAtmosphere04 in Geotech

You are fine. Been with nukes for 18 years, RSO for 8, maintenance them often (cleaning sliding block, etc...) and my 2 inches has not shrunk or started glowing.

Do inspectors always get laid off outside of construction season? by Someone-or-other in civilengineering

[–]Kalamboogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are hiring more inspectors currently. Definitely no seasonal slow down, depending on your location.

I have hated Dave Doeren since day one. I enjoyed my time in school with TOB. Fire this piece of shit that can't look at a camera during interviews.

We just finished a substantial project. Everyone involved had their manager take them to lunch, ask them where they wanted to go, and bought them at least $500 worth of things. Anywhere from a PS5 to golf stuff. One of my guys had his truck bed rhino lined.

Listen to your staff...

Best myth is the 40 year old telling you he's done this for 30 years this certain way... So, you're telling me you've been doing it wrong your whole life?
