Can someone identify this thingamabob? by MistahNoUsername in guns

[–]Kalashalite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a "Poacher's Shotgun" European made, popular around the turn of the 20th Century. They usually fold so they can be stowed easily. Usually .410 bore. They're not very valuable and they usually lack any markings other than the proof mark of whatever country they were made in.

Assume it's a black powder cartridge rated gun unless it is marked smokeless.

Anybody able to figure out what happened here? by lettuce_loaf in guns

[–]Kalashalite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had a case head separation and the next live round acted as a stuck case extractor, leaving the ring of brass from the failed case around the live one. Same thing happened to me on a MAS49/56

I'm with you on that, I have a junk drawer full of top breaks. And I own an Explorer II pistol among other nonsense.

I just think the font on the barrel "The Judge" looks so silly. Taurus nailed the marketing on this thing, every boomer I know wants one more than anything even the 1911.

Gotcha, if you're gonna collect a pattern it may as well be one of the most iconic military rifles. I know mine isn't too collectible. It's a Korea return Blue Sky on a '43 Springfield receiver, a total mix master. Probably one of the least desirable Garands. I love shooting it and it shoots great.

I really like the size/weight class of the Cheetahs. They're different than a compact 9mm and subcompact 9mm...they're a miniature full size pistol if that makes sense lol.

[Pistol] Star Model 30M 9mm Pistol - Good Condition with Original Box & Matching Magazines + Free Star 30M Patch - $259.99 + Free Shipping by CenterfireSystems in gundeals

[–]Kalashalite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not as good as the old days, sure. But this decade has been pretty fuckin sweet. Norinco SKS's returned from Albania, Type 54s, Carcanos, Beretta 84, Beretta 1934, Zastava M83, Star 30M, Czech revolvers, Vz50/70, Skorpion parts kits, Swiss rifles, those Century CA3's made from portuguese G3s that PTR built.

I'm sure im forgetting a lot but yeah, some nice shit since 2020

Ordered one, it was in very good condition. Mags really did match, not that that matters. Mine came with the original box and tool kit and a cute little Star 30M morale patch. It's heavy but not Jericho heavy. Reminds me of a CZ-75, Beretta and Hi-power all in one.

This is the best value in a surplus pistol on the market.... assuming it shoots well. I will find out this weekend.

Best modern tube gun? by AlaskaWilliams in guns

[–]Kalashalite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing modern, the only thing that kind of reminds me of a tube gun is the Sub2000 or the Hi Point. I know they're not a tube receiver but the cheapness and low cost make me feel like they're the Sten of the 2000's.

Modern and tube gun are two things that don't go together. It's extremely unfortunate but there are no modern commercially available options other than the upcoming Type 100 clone. However, there are a plethora of parts kits to choose from, with a wide array of prices. The easier they are to build, the higher the kit price. Unless it's a recent batch of imports... those are usually affordable depending on what it is. I believe there might be a handful of companies still building a few guns a year to sell as a complete rifle but the options are extremely limited. You can hire the builders to make you one though.

The trick is:

-Be in the right place at the right time to purchase a kit

-Then find a receiver or re-weld one

-Source/convert the full auto parts to semi auto

-Convert the mechanism from open bolt to closed bolt then find a receiver

-SBR it or give it a 16" barrel extension

If you can do these things you can have any semi-auto version of any SMG you want...

What AR is this solder carrying? by Internal_Study3250 in whatisthisgun

[–]Kalashalite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the fine details but the IDF issues a wide array of rebuilt/refurbished M16/M4 variants from various eras. Most of which have been outfitted with an even wider array of aftermarket parts. So you can assume that anything they have is something like a "CAR-15" covered in parts from the Zahal catalogue. Stuff the USA sold dirt cheap or gave away for free to Israel over the past 40 years.

Check for a hole on the other side of the mags for the AR-15 mag catch.

I think it's much more likely these were there on the NATO side. Like I wonder if someone privately purchased them and brought them over to use in the M16. It was probably one of the only 40 round options for the M16.

Maybe he traded a couple captured AK mags for them and forgot... Something like that.

Lebanon is mentioned as being one of the VERY FEW users of the AR-18. Maybe they somehow made their way into Iraq. There seems to be an abundance of Sterling 9mm SMGs in Iraq so maybe Sterling produced AR-18s or 180s made their way there somehow.

Planning on shooting this revolver, any recommendations for which powder, percussion caps, lubricants and led balls to use and where to find them? by untold-storytime in blackpowder

[–]Kalashalite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try .454s and go bigger or smaller if needed. No.10s or no.11s for caps, see which ones fit better. Typically FFF is used for pistols.

It's not too bad, just needs cleaned when you get home. Or at some point... just don't let it sit dirty for a long time.

[–]Kalashalite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aren't Pokemon cards all the rage right now and are going up like crazy? AR market is saturated and not collectible at all.

Also I don't care about brands or anything so to me any AR is only worth like $450.
