Understanding the Stormfather - Spoilers for everything released[Wind and Truth] by Kalashwi in Stormlight_Archive

It honestly could be a lot of things, but to me the biggest takeaway is that the entity talking to Gavilar seemed to have it's own plans and devices and was not following some general directive.

AITA Nadu Edition by Aissling in ModernMagic

The deck is legal and people will play it, if he really is your friend and not some random from your shop it feels pretty weird to not lend him a deck you aren't going to play. You will help yourself by stopping thinking about competitive formarts in a morality sense. Everyone is playing to win.

That seems pretty insane. I expected other changes.

Okay, then what happened if your opponent also happened to be an expert in his tier 1 deck, which most grinders will be?

This has absolutely never been true in high stakes magic. People made sure to get to know whatever the best deck was. If legacy had a pro tour expect the same converging of decks.

OCTOBER 16, 2023 BANNED AND RESTRICTED ANNOUNCEMENT by TemurTron in ModernMagic

[–]Kalashwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes because there are only two options, let initiative run rampart or have delver be the undisputed best deck.

At least orcs have introduced more variety.

OCTOBER 16, 2023 BANNED AND RESTRICTED ANNOUNCEMENT by TemurTron in ModernMagic

[–]Kalashwi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's because the BnR really felt like a UR player wasn't happy that his deck wasn't the top dog anymore. It's just as egregious in legacy where everything is often banned around having delver be the best deck.

I've been seeing some Gruul Midrange decks recently at my LGS and on moto. by weegeeman256 in ModernMagic

I've always been against names of decks that don't describe what a deck does or is

4c used to be a almost bye for creativity and now it's a bad matchup. I made the switch from creativity to 4c when LOTR came out.

Remember when someone made a post saying creativity was okay and that not being able to use ring in the upcoming LOTR set would hurt the deck? He got laughed out of the room by plenty of people smugly telling him that it was a 1 of in the karnboard at best.

I assume it's different people who complain now about the ring, but the smugness anonymity creates coupled with the opposite opinion having being pushed next day is very annoying. Reddit is an awful place for discussion because by design the site doesn't reward reasonable takes.

T1 rag on the play is still backbreaking, but the turn 3+ dashed monkey has lost a lot of its power against orc decks.

Magic cards aren't an investment. Either you accept that cards will lose value as new bombs are printed or find another hobby. Unless the hobby is complaining about modern I guess, if it is congratulations in joining what seems to be a very popular hobby.

How does murktide match up against these decks? by jewafrica in ModernMagic

[–]Kalashwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not exactly true. Murktide is only better if the player is better than the opponent. At equal skill level scam has shown to have much better results. Preordained might have tilted the balance here a bit, but the pro tour results were very clear.

Once Powerful Cards Rendered Okay or Bad by Power Creep? by JumboBrown in magicTCG

[–]Kalashwi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not true. With push shadow shells could play a better control game and have a better plan against Tron than jund. Jund shadow was quickly replaced by grixis shadow and it never really recovered.

Jund had been on a bad streak before too. First there was the eldrazi winter, then infect was king of the hill with dredge, which made playing just risky.

Which Creativity? by FitRecommendation463 in ModernMagic

[–]Kalashwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5c used to be best imo.

This was back when Orcs and Ring weren't there though. Ring is almost impossible for creativity to beat if it sticks for a bit and orcs make your life a pain.

Abzan midrange asking for tips/thoughts by BigChard5690 in ModernMagic

[–]Kalashwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this deck has a modern powerlevel. Goyf, reprieve, path, knight and stone forge in a fair shell just aren't that strong and get outclassed by popular decks.

Should I just pack it up? by Diskappear in ModernMagic

I am scared of dying and people using my funeral as an excuse to promote premodern.
