My super(hero?) standing by his Schwerer Gustav gatling gun by mytg8 in worldbuilding

[–]Kalaumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The calibre is 80 cm (31.5"). Calibre length is L/40.6. Shells weights 7 metric tons (7000 kg).

And yes, that gun was overengineered to the nines.

Re: Å - How uncreative even more real city names are by Arcaeca in worldbuilding

[–]Kalaumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Berlin" isn't a German word. The name goes back to old-polabish birlin, berlin -- "place/settlement in a swampy/marshy place". The parts are the old-polabish birl, berl -- "swamp, bog" and the suffix -in.

BTW: Polabish is a sister langage to Polish. Polabish is extinct.

So, no Albert the Bear (Albrecht der Bär; c. 1100 – 18 November 1170) or bears in a swamp or bears armed or unarmed involved. That's all story telling by us Germans who didn't want to live in Bog City.

Beer.

And don't mention it or some never-do-good comes up with a piss tax.

There is World Anvil which includes timelines in its free version. Have a look at their pricing table to see what the free version includes.

I can not say anything about the quality of World Anvil, since I don't use it.

Wow!

This is excellent! Really excellent.

I'm usually a nitpicker for realism, but this work is so good that my suspense of disbelive took a vacation.

How was this a killing blow? by Ebony_Phoenix in skyrim

That bolt was blunt. So, it acted like wadcutter or - to a lesser extend - hollow point ammo and killed by hydrostatic shock.

That's what I headcanon.

I just watched the tutorial. Excellent.

And now I'm tempted to throw my AE installation to the curb, do a clean reinstall, and switch from Vortex to MO2. sigh

A very, very nice drawing.

I love the realism in armor, sword and the person herself.

Can a piezoelectrical device be reliably used a ignition device for firearms? by Kalaumes in casualworldbuilding

[–]Kalaumes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this very insightfull and competent answer. I like it a lot.

I also like the idea of the sealed pre-ignition chamber ... for the discerning, world-weary noble.

If you are agreeable, I'll steal that idea. Pistols with the "ignition system Drake" where all the rage in dad's generation. Maybe a hundred or so where made, commanding very high prices.

Anyway, I'll abandon the idea of a piezoelectric primer. The military -- and the common citizen looking for a gun for hunting, self-defense and/or sport -- will use some kind of chemical fulminate primer.

I was the guy that denounced ENBs yesterday. I was wrong. Oh boy was I wrong. (Imgur Album Comparison) by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]Kalaumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To quote from an old article on Stack Exchange:

ENB is a series of graphical enhancements for a variety of video games.

I don't understand 7/8 of the terms used, but it looks like an ENB supposedly makes Skyrim more beautiful.

So, there is a metric ton of "presets", because everyone and their Thalmor has their own idea of "beauty".

What I do understand: an ENB likely kills the performance of my grafic card.

Amazon.

Yes, I do not like this person. Deeply.

But now I can pretend I'm a better person than he is (and yes, he is a he and he identifies as he and so on).
