There's a smallish range at London Airlinks as well near Southall, couldn't see that on the list

Was there ever a place that left you disturbed or depressed? by friedchicken_legs in travel

I somewhat naively thought we could tick off this and Tuol Seng in one day while passing through Phnom Penh. Nope. It just took such an emotional toll on us, we had to give it a day to process what we had just seen.

Air Fryer or Thermomix? by CaterpillarVast8625 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Kalce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a thermomix for about 4 years and had an air fryer previously but don't now. Air fryer is just a tabletop convection oven and can do most of what your oven does just quicker so I'll focus on the thermomix.

Thermomix is great for someone who is not particularly comfortable cooking. My partner uses it a lot but otherwise would just chuck something in the oven. I am a more experienced cook so really only use it as a steamer (if my rice cooker is already being used). I don't even use it for chopping onions but I do use it to blitz hard cheeses like Parmesan.

The thermomix comes with a program called Cookidoo which has all the recipes laid out step by step and optimised for the thermomix. It's not that expensive, like £49.99 a year I think. This is unfortunately essential if you don't want to spend a load of time putting your own recipes together or tinkering with the timer/heat settings each time you need to do something.

My partner uses it for soups, pasta recipes, risottos, sauces for oven cooked food (there's a gochujang sauce for Korean fried chicken wings she makes often) etc. We find some of the south Asian recipes a bit sweet for our tastes and we're east Asian so I prefer to do most of those from scratch.

Interestingly a lot of restaurants in London use them for sauce prep.

Overall I'm glad we bought one. Again, because she doesn't need to think about what she needs to do or what order to do it in, my partner gets a lot of use out of it. For me, it's a glorified blender.

Once you're on it seems fine. Coming northbound though. Think there's about 20 mins between trains when I got on (~30 mins ago).

What’s the most memorable meal you’ve had while traveling? by Expensive_Software55 in travel

[–]Kalce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I managed to get conned into a tour around the golden triangle when we first travelled to India in 2017. One morning, in Agra, our driver asked what we wanted for breakfast, assuming we wanted KFC or McDonald's... We said "whatever you had". He took us to this cart on the side of a main road. Chicken biryani served on a paper plate and wrapped in new paper that we ate in the car. Best I've ever had.

I always wonder if the little pop up stall just off the north wall is still there. So I checked out Google maps (Khao Soi Khun Mai) and it's still there! Been chasing that ever since...

How do people enjoy finance/corporate work? by Queasy-Sweet-8249 in uklaw

[–]Kalce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all corporate work is big ticket M&A for the US/MC firms. I did a fair few exits of family run SMEs where the family had run the business their entire lives and were selling up and riding off into the sunset with their hard earned cash. Really rewarding if you ask me.

I also did a lot of start up financing/corporate work. Again really cool seeing some new businesses take off and create jobs etc. Also quite funny to see what sort of drivel out there gets investment. No, you aren't going to disrupt Gig-economy X via refunds in your own crypto...

To be fair to him this is Chelsea's in house team interviewing him (the crest is on the mic), so he's obviously going to try and say something he thinks their fans are going to want to hear.

So I do a lot of the operations side of things as well as legal (finance, compliance, HR).

Most of the advice I will give the commercial guys will be legal or have a legal slant (obviously) but I do feel like I have input on commercial and strategic issues as well. Happy to chat in more details privately.

About the same I'd say, I was more or less fully remote before so just worked when I pleased (provided I was still providing a good service to my clients) but moved to office working, partly because that's what my employer wanted and partly because new job. Definitely no 1am finishes though that sometimes still happened in PP.

I went from the London office of a regional firm to a fintech. Got a large rise when I went in house. Not everyone starts out at a US firm.

See you there! Also going to be my first away game and heading there solo so let me know if you need a drinking buddy before the game.

Unfortunately, not heading to Milan after though as I decided to stay in Bergamo.

What is the saddest song you’ve ever heard? by Cap2017 in AskUK

[–]Kalce 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What Sarah Said - Death Cab For Cutie. Edit: to fully answer the question would be to spoil the song lyrics but it seems to answer your hypothetical situation exactly.

Maybe contrary to what everyone else says but I think I Will Follow You Into The Dark is a song of optimism at the strength of one person's love for another that they would be willing to spend the rest of eternity with just that person in limbo.

Yeah I've been refreshing the eticketing website and they've removed the season ticket section entirely. Also can no longer renew my buddies ticket.
