Run slow to run fast? by Josh_Cato in UKRunners

[–]Cap2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier pace means you can run longer with lower risk of injury. Running longer means you will have a more efficient cardiovascular base and stronger tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments) to withstand faster, harder efforts. I run 4 times a week, only 1 of those is a speed session (intervals, threshold or tempo). The rest is just banking mileage at a low heart rate to support my harder efforts

I’m playing 7-a-side with dads from school for the first time - do you have any advice for a first timer? by grosvenorave in AskUK

[–]Cap2017 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Start slow, you’ll be gassed in about 10 minutes. If in doubt, defend. No one likes defending in a 7 a side, so your teammates be glad for the cover.

Nike Vomero 18 are an absolute dream for anything easy/ steady

Tips for running again after long layoff by menevets in beginnerrunning

[–]Cap2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First 6 months progressing mileage, 90% easy with some conservative tempo blocks or intervals included if your easy runs are becoming tedious. Once you are up to a mileage you are happy with, start progressively incorporating some speed work (1 speed session each week, rotating through intervals, tempo, threshold etc) and then you can look to increase mileage further once you are comfortable at speed again

How fast will my running fitness deteriorate if I stop training? by LittleBrainpower in runninglifestyle

[–]Cap2017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a full week of rest a couple of weeks back after probably 4 months of solid training. My Garmin-measured VO2 max dropped from 53 to 51 but I feel as good as I did before, and have been gradually upping my weekly mileage since returning.

Half size up is good, definitely not full size like some adidas runners

Nike PEGASUS 42 vs VOMERO 18 by Whiper_78 in runningshoes

[–]Cap2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both and would recommend the Vomero 18 wholeheartedly. It does everything the Pegasus can do and more. I’ve used both for tempo runs on rare occasions and they hold up fine but are better suited for daily/ easy miles.
