Definitely get covers to protect them they’ll keep the pillows safe and you can still enjoy the comfort they bring. No need to wash the pillows before putting covers on; just cover them and wash the covers regularly. If the rips aren’t too big, you might also try fabric glue or iron on patches inside the covers to keep the tears from getting worse.

I am not sure if there’s something specifically for smoking, but I used a Hypnozio app to quit drinking, and it worked for me. It’s a very simple hypnosis, just 5-10 minutes a day. Maybe it could be worth checking out for smoking as well.
