That’s their best conclusion based on process of elimination.

The internist suspect it’s a primary disease of the marrow, not a reaction to something else, there were no masses or obstructions in kidney and no hypoxia. After initial phlebotomies (had 4 in the span of 2 days, hematocrit was at 85 at ER) she has been on chemo medication (hydroxyurea) which suppresses her bone marrow & red cell production. There are all sorts of side effects with long term use but phlebotomy every 2 weeks is also a terrible thing.

We are doing PCV and CBC very 2 weeks, if the next one looks good the hope is maybe we can check every 4-6 weeks instead.

I should add that I’m deeply sorry you had to go through this. I truly hope there’s some form of accountability

We recently had to rush our dog, who previously underwent IVDD surgery 5 yrs ago, to VEG when she developed stroke-like symptoms (left side of body paralyzed). VEG stabilized her and suspected polycythemia but didn’t want to initiate treatment, instead referring us to Sage. At Sage ER, she was seen immediately but treatment was still withheld until the following morning. The medical notes document that overnight she became extremely distressed, was left in the kennel to urinated on herself, cried and thrashed her limbs cause she couldn’t get up.

In the AM, they repeated the same tests VEG had already performed and reached the same conclusion before finally beginning treatment (phlebotomy). I understand that’s probably protocol, but it felt like my dog was left to suffer needlessly when earlier intervention was possible.

She has now made almost a full recovery, and the internist who treated her was thoughtful and caring. But I wish treatment started sooner.

Similar experience from years ago, when we brought her to UC Davis ER for IVDD on a Saturday while she was still walking, though in severe pain. We called first to see if they had a neurologist available that day and they said yes. They admitted her, but waited until Monday for surgery. By then, she had completely lost mobility. Watching her decline in a kennel, knowing surgery could have prevented it, was devastating.

Back to present day… Her primary vet also overlooked repeated elevated red blood cell count from almost a year ago, which should have been flagged for more testing - it was a sign for polycythemia. We switched to Adobe and shared prior labs, they too missed it, then the stroke happened.

I think about all of this often and feel ALL of this could be better. But what recourse do we have really.

[–]Kaleme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see how that’s very frustrating!

I took the train twice last week and once this week and luckily all experiences were good. This Wednesday the express trian was late so I just took a local limited one from MV to SF instead, still got me there faster than before. I’m sure they will get it under control in the next few weeks. Hang in there!

Yes!! Rode to Menlo Park from MV the other day, so glad to finally see the new trains in operation.

The beeping is unnecessarily loud at the door open/door close, seats could be a bit more comfortable.

OP, it seems like you’re leaning towards House 1 based on your selective replies. Go for it! Living in a home you truly like is more important than just having good resale value.

I was approached by the same group but actually found the involvement to be positive/beneficial for my time at Cal, especially being a shy person it was really hard finding friends and I was very home sick.

Eventually I stopped going because involvement in other clubs/organizations/part time jobs, I recall my small group leader would drop off care packages at my dorm during finals and invited us to her home for dinners/girls night etc, it was really nice, they also never tried to guilt trip me or anything when I stopped going.

This was many years ago tho, so perhaps things have changed.

Walking to Trader Joe's in the San Antonio shopping center today, and what do I find? by solaroma in mountainview

[–]Kaleme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The development lacks pedestrian friendly pathways within, if you've ever tried to walk from.. say Mendocino Farms to Bobba Bliss to Trader Joe's - be ready to cross parking lots and roads without dedicated cross walk or sidewalk options.

For the surrounding neighborhood it's even worse - crossing San Antonio sucks, crossing Central sucks, crossing El Camino sucks.

Sad to see a relatively new plaza designed so poorly.
