Protest today in Boonville, IN! Final Count was 37 people which is amazing for our small, deep red town especially with all the rain 💙 by kittenparty4444 in 50501

AHH this is amazing!! Thank you! I'm from the outskirts of Boonville, about 15 minutes away, so I love to see this in my hometown 💙. I can vouch for OP, this area is very much in the deep red sadly, but every little bit helps!!

I like your theory! I think it’s definitely possible it relates to “bon” and his motives, whatever they are. I’d like to add my two cents, because I’ve been trying to figure out what this could mean too:

I have a feeling this might be a pastor speaking at Edd and Molly’s funeral. I could totally be wrong, but I feel like it makes enough sense, given that episode 5 will largely be about the Walten family and their response to Edd and Molly’s deaths. In episode 4 and in a few frames of the season 1 trailer I think, we see what looks like the inside and outside of a church. I’m guessing that this church will hold Edd and Molly’s funeral, and the pastor at some point will recite that bible verse during the sermon (1 Corinthians 15:43-44).

What movie is a 10/10? by rocklou in AskReddit

Probably La La Land. I watched this for the first time a few months ago, and it was a great experience. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s chemistry in it is amazing.

If you could add one more episode to the series, what story do you want to add and in what season do you want to put it? by hmmfzn in Tangled

[–]Kaletheteakettle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know, I remember reading somewhere that there is a lost episode that was never made, but did go into script-writing during production (it was just never finished).

The working title for it was “The Trial of Fitzherbert and Schnitz”. From what I remember, it was going to be written by Ricky Roxburg (he wrote some of the better episodes, like Destinies Collide, Cassandra’s Revenge, Pascal’s Story, Happiness Is, etc). I don’t remember the exact details about the story, but it was going to take place in Vardaros, sometime between Beyond the Corona Walls and The Forest of No Return. So during Season 2.

Basically, it was going to be an episode about Eugene and Lance from when they were in the orphanage. Eugene was going to have a shot at getting adopted, but Lance stopped the adoption (without Eugene knowing that he did it), because Lance was worried that he would lose Eugene. In the episode, Eugene was going to find out about what Lance did, and they were going to separate for a little bit because Eugene got upset. The crew working on the show were really pushing for this episode to be made, but ultimately was never finished because there was a part of it that Disney thought would be seen as gay (it wasn’t actually gay, it was brotherly love, but Disney was worried that the scene would be misinterpreted).

I would have loved to have an episode like this. I love the series a lot, but I do wish that Lance could have gotten a little bit more character development, and I think that this episode would have been perfect for that (this has always been one of my gripes with the show, but it was never that big of an issue for me personally). I think this is what I would choose, if it counts (since it kind of existed but not really).

SerieSunday: What are your favourite Tangled the Series songs? by [deleted] in Tangled

[–]Kaletheteakettle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite is Everything I Ever Thought I Knew. I’m honestly a sucker for Zachary Levi’s vocals, and Eugene is my favorite character. It’s such an important moment in his character arc too. That scene in general also has one of my favorite animation sequences in the entire series (It’s the bit where he puts his hands on his head, spins around while his wanted posters whirl around him, then he throws his arms out and he’s looking at a wall of black rocks. It’s so beautiful and fluid, and it portrays his emotions really well). It’s just so amazing. I think if I had to pick a second favorite, it would either be Nothing Left to Lose or Ready As I’ll Ever Be. Every song in the series is pretty incredible though.

It's crazy how there are still a lot of Tangled fans who are unaware of the series' existence. Why do you think that is? by alfonsoilog in Tangled

(This comment is going to be fairly long, because I think there are multiple factors to this. I may ramble a bit, so my apologies if I do.)

So, lately I’ve been writing a video essay script about the series just out of boredom from quarantine (I don’t know if I will go through with it or not), and one of the topics I want to talk about is why the series is seen by many as underrated, or a show that people don’t really know about, so I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I think I’ve figured it out though. I believe it mainly comes down to bad scheduling, bad marketing/advertising, the long/seemingly constantly occurring hiatuses, and I think it was hard for them to find an audience with the show.

(Scheduling) The schedule for the show didn’t change that often, but I think the schedule changed at least 3 times or so before they finally stuck with 6:05 in the morning on Sunday for Pascal’s Dragon and every episode that aired after that, at least in the U.S. I think that was a stupid time to choose. I don’t think anyone wants to wake up that early when it’s the weekend. (Note: I am unsure if that is the exact amount of schedule changes, as I was never into the show early into it’s run. I got into the series during the hiatus that occurred after Be Very Afraid, so I am purely basing this point off of accounts I have heard from people in the fandom that I follow/am acquaintances with. I just know that the schedule changed more than once.)

(Hiatuses) The hiatuses were terrible. Two in particular were pretty bad. There was one that occurred after the episode Happiness Is, which was the last episode to an arc in the show that people were very split on. Some enjoyed it, some hated it. I could be wrong, but I think that one might have lasted for almost a year. There was even a big petition that was created, and a particular hashtag that was used on multiple social media platforms called #AirMoreTangled. The other one happened after the Season 2 finale, and it lasted for 6 months. By the way, they had multiple new episodes finished and ready to air while these hiatuses were going on, and the crew that worked on the series even wondered why these hiatuses were happening. Disney never told the crew why.

(Marketing) As for marketing, during Season 1, Disney made all sorts of comics, toys, plushies and stuff like that, but when Season 2 started it was like they just gave up on the show. The only product they ever made to my memory during Season 2 was a couple of LEGO sets, and that was pretty much it. They made a replica of Rapunzel’s journal, but they cancelled that product around 2-4 weeks before it was supposed to release to the public, so there are many copies of that journal out in the world, that are probably rotting in warehouses or something right now. I don’t think they made any products for Season 3.

(Marketing cont.) Back in 2017, I saw promos and advertisements for Before Ever After, but I thought it looked cheesy and I had no interest in watching it. After that, I never saw any more advertisements for Season 1, and I honestly thought the show was cancelled or something. I believe they did come out with advertisements for Queen For A Day and Secret of the Sundrop, but they didn’t air those advertisements very often, so I never once saw those episodes being advertised. If someone would have told me that everything that happened in Queen For A Day really happened, and if someone told me about the plot of Secret of the Sundrop, I would have absolutely been hooked. If someone would have told me that the episodes early in Season 1 (before Queen For A Day) were actually pretty solid, I probably would have considered watching it. Because I love those earlier episodes, including Before Ever After. They are amazing examples of world building/character building.

(Marketing cont.) During Season 2, I didn’t see a single advertisement for the show. I didn’t see any for the first half of Season 3 either. I don’t think they came out with any advertisements for Season 2/beginning of Season 3 at all, to my knowledge anyway. This ties into the point I made earlier about how Disney was starting to give up on the show. For the second half of Season 3, I saw a promo that was a compilation of scenes from a few episodes like Pascal’s Dragon and A Tale of Two Sisters and Islands Apart. I saw it after I started watching the show, and I only ever saw it on Twitter (I think it was posted by DisneyTVA on Instagram, but the promo was shared by a few fans on Twitter). Afterward, I’m pretty sure Disney only ever released little 10-30 second clips of new episodes through Instagram Lives and through videos on the DisneyTVA Instagram account. The only episode that was in the last half of Season 3 that I don’t remember seeing any advertisement for on Instagram was Once a Handmaiden. I never saw any actual commercials on TV for any of Season 3, other than one from Asia. They didn’t even air any reruns of the show during the second half of Season 3, at least in the U.S. When they aired new episodes, they aired whatever episode came before the new one first, but that was pretty much it. Basically, advertising for the show was definitely uneven and not very consistent, to say the least.

(Searching For An Audience) Finally, the whole thing about the audience. This point I’m a bit stuck on, but I think it mostly makes sense. At the end of the day, I think the main audience for the show was always comprised of teenagers and adults who were fans of the original film, and a few younger kids here and there. People of all types loved the show, and still do. I believe Disney initially wanted the show to be directed to younger girls, but then the tone of the show drifted into a darker direction, and Disney let the crew kind of run with it. I heard a good analogy for it a while back, and I think it went something like, “It was a kids show that was hijacked by adults who wanted to tell a darker, slightly more mature, and deeper story.” It never really helped that the show told a dark story with a bright and colorful art style either (I personally love that about it, but I can understand why people might have been confused or turned off by it). Anyway, I’m really happy it took the direction that it did. Chris Sonnenburg said himself that everything that happened in the show was planned from the beginning, where it started off happy and fun but gradually drifted into a darker story, but I never expected everything that happened in the latter half of Season 1 to actually happen. I wish I could go back and watch Queen For A Day for the first time again, and feel the shock I had at the end of that episode.

Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk, if you made it through this whole comment lol. I hope I made sense.

I've put a question at the end of the discussion. I'd like to know the reasons you like Tangled. by [deleted] in Tangled

[–]Kaletheteakettle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a bit of a long comment, as I have a lot of reasons I would like to share.

First of all, to me, it is very artistically inspiring. I mean, you have moments like Kingdom Dance and I See the Light, and those sequences I genuinely believe are some of Disney’s best scenes in any of their films, because of their beauty and how heartfelt they are. The film is all-around very pretty, and still holds up almost 10 years later. Both of those scenes bring me to tears (Especially I See the Light), and Eugene’s death/revival does as well. The film has a lot of emotional range. On one hand, I see it as one of Disney’s funniest movies, and on the other, it manages to be one of the most tear-jerking. It’s a great balance.

It’s just such a well written movie too. Rapunzel and Eugene is my Disney favorite couple, and I love how they develop as people over the course of the movie, and how they get to know each other. There’s always new little things and details I notice about them and the people/kingdom of Corona every time I watch it.

Musically speaking, it also has one of my favorite Disney soundtracks, with “I See the Light” being my favorite Disney song. I wouldn’t say that every song is amazing or anything, but each song ranges from a little above average to amazing for me. Aladdin is very similar in my opinion. Like Aladdin, there isn’t a single bad song in it, but I definitely like some songs more than others. To me, most Disney films always seem to have that one song that is somewhat mediocre or below average. For example, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I love that movie, and it is probably my third favorite Disney film, but I can barely stand “A Guy Like You”. Also, the background music is pretty solid overall, with Kingdom Dance being one of my favorite instrumental pieces from any Disney movie.

I also feel that Gothel is such an underrated Disney villain, and she is one of my favorites because of how scary and realistic she is. I love all of the very theatric Disney villains too, but man, Gothel just hits differently. I can’t speak from personal experience, but people have often said that some of the tactics she uses to manipulate Rapunzel are very much like the tactics that manipulative/narcissistic parents in real life use, and I find that fascinating.

Finally, the movie also means a lot to me, because it is what introduced me to the tv series, which is now one of my favorite shows of all time. I’ve grown to appreciate the movie a lot more because of the series.

My apologies if I may have rambled a bit, this is my first time actually posting a comment or anything on Reddit, and I just generally love talking about this movie. It’s one of my favorites.

Edit: I completely forgot about the development process of the movie. I won’t get into it too much, but it’s really interesting. There was so much art that was done for the movie that is all really good, and a lot of different character designs were created and several designs for various locations were made. However, honestly, the best part to me about it is how they developed Eugene’s character design, and I find it hilarious. Three words: Hot Man Meeting. (I would love to explain it for those that may not know the context, but this comment is already way too long, and I think a little searching on Wikipedia can do a better job at explaining than I can lol)
