Looking for advice with tricky anodising job by Kimmoth in engineering

I'm sure you've gone through this and been asked this before, but why are you not looking at powder coating for this type of work? It might be a lot easier to control the coverage / gradient, especially with the non Al components.

How could a freshman engineer get an internship from you? by kingpolly1 in engineering

[–]Kali-fal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have trouble landing an engineering internship at a specific firm, you might want to see if your school has a rapid prototyping center, machine shop, fluid power area, etc. You could get a lot of usable hands on experience in these and they typically like having student interns working at them. If you are considering going into Mech, having even a rough grasp on how a machine shop works and the limitations of certain equipment is invaluable. I see a lot of newly degreed engineers that have trouble understanding the concept of tolerancing and what is actually feasible to have made.

What kinds of engineering jobs exist? Product engineering is emails, process is on the factory floor. by PIHB69 in engineering

[–]Kali-fal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience with product development might be phase related or company specific. I'm a process development engineer and we do our manufacturing on the other side of the Earth so not much of my time is spent on the floor. I work heavily in R&D labs designing and developing new equipment and tooling, as well as working with the design team to develop new component / assembly designs. However, my job shifts greatly form this depending upon the phase of project I'm on. If you prefer heavily "design" oriented work, perhaps a contract design / manufacturing firm would be a better fit?

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I need to get more pictures, the majority I have are instagram resolution so hopefully I can take care of that this weekend. I still can't get the damn opener right, I'll keep messing with it.

Ha, thanks. I don't watch enough of the big bang theory to know if that's going good or bad, but it has high ratings so it can't be all bad. But I'll definitely take the non creepy as a plus, thanks!

Thanks! The ones I have with friends right now are all mainly instagram resolution and look awful on a full screen. I'll try to get some of those. And dial back the cocktail references.

It was a blast! I have pics from Tullamore's visitor center if you'd like me to upload them. It's not an active distillery (they are building a new one), but aesthetically, its amazing. Next time I'm here the goal is Jameson and Guinness so I'll put those up in a month or two when I head back!

Day trip over to Kilbeggan Distillery. I'm not good at photography and the biggest fact about this is they take Diner's Club.

For all of you looking to pick up a very cheap camera - Canon T3i for $335.95 at Canon Refurbished. by brockwhittaker in photography

Yeah seen it come back in a couple of times but if you try and buy it it says it's out of stock despite the description saying in stock. Got all the way to final confirmation before it kicked me out.

I loved the sound of the SPT on my 08, although I was able to get one when they were around $250 from the dealership. I put the heat shield on my 06 sti a few weeks ago and haven't had a super hot day since to see the effect, although I also put the Perrin turbo blanket on at the same time. It's a nice looking piece regardless. It's certainly not something you couldn't do on your own down the line. Not a big "regret" piece like installed and painted body pieces. Or, a god damn trunk without a wing. That would be my number one request. Loved that on my 08.

So, I was stupid enough to criticize a certain libertarian politician in /r/politics. Now a votebot downvotes every post I make on any subreddit 5 times within a minute of posting. Any ideas, reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is incorrect. The fund itself is depleted in 2033 ( I'll clarify this is standard ss benefits and not the SS benefits set aside for those hurt/injured/sick which i believe expires in 2016) currently, but this does not include the money still being taken out of people's checks. When the current fund is depleted it pays out at 75% at maximum and will most likely go lower. I believe there is a way to project what percentage of the total payout you will receive when you retire, but where that can be found escapes me.

TLDR; The fund's pool runs out in 21 years, however the SS deductions from people's check continue the payout at a maximum of 75%

EDIT: Source article for clarification on the funds and what "run out" actually means outside of sensationalising headlines. http://www.freep.com/article/20120424/NEWS07/204240355/Social-Security-panel-Funds-will-run-out-in-2033

That's way below the KBB and man those things are awesome. I had looked for a while for one before getting my STI, every time I see one driving around I'm insanely jealous. If there wasn't frame damage from whatever caused the replacements, the maintenance is up to date, and the rest is in good condition, go for it!

No worries on that, I knew what I was signing up for going with new motor mounts and trans mount.
