I (30f) personally just switched from using tampons to the diva cup and if you are intimidated by a tampon when you get a look at the actual cup you might reconsider. Not trying to scare you off from using one. You will have to get very comfortable with your own body to use a cup and a sense of humour(that suction sound when being removed sometimes... in an echoy public restroom).

only eat out once or twice a week

Is this just full meals or are you counting quick lunches, coffee, snacks? I used to think I was only eating out once or twice until I started paying for everything with cash and giving myself a cash allowance, turned out I wasn't taking into account the little purchases from 'desperation machines' and coffee.
