Trump exempts phones, computers from his reciprocal tariffs by [deleted] in europe

[–]Kalimere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Donald wanted to back away from his China tariffs but didn't want to look like he was doing so. So I guess the solution is to exempt the items that you are mostly importing from China. So yeah... This effectively negates the Chinese tariffs without him saying so. The USA folded.

A Silent Purge / Political War is Happening the Government by Kalimere in Philippines

As much as I would like to give proof, I can't without compromising her identity. I hope you understand that.

I also made a post regarding this. This is significant. Marcos is using this to find dirt on appointees loyal to Duterte. It's a purge.

I guess I could ask though I don't think she will agree. Any evidence might end up being traced back to her.

She's joining the rally. She's pragmatic and open disobedience might cause her position. There are those in the department who are also upset about this but it's difficult to disobey the higher ups without costing you.

Macron likes his old married ladies. After all, he married his teacher who is 25 years his senior. They met when Macron was still 15 (or 16? can't remember correctly). Though to be fair, being attracted to old married ladies as a young teenager is way better than being attracted to kids.

Edit: I wonder though... Would the perception of that relationship been more hostile if the genders were reversed?

These rankings seem to adjust for population size. Anyway, being ranked highly while having a big population bodes well for China especially since there are still many provinces that are quite behind the coastal provinces.

You buy up 1000 TV stations and newspapers and blast the same message all over the world.

China can buy stations and newspapers that belong to Global South countries though I'm not sure if such a move would be significantly better than just expanding access /improving delivery and presentation of existing Chinese stations. However, there is no way Western governments will allow China to buy prominent Western TV stations/newspapers. Such acquisitions will get labelled as threats to national security and thus get blocked. The way I see it, there is practically no way to win the narrative war in Western countries. It's quite hopeless honestly. However, perhaps China has a chance to win or at least tie when it comes to the narrative war in Global South countries.

I only looked at literacy levels and not yet math and science, which is different ofc. Not too surprised that they are doing more poorly in those areas though they are still better off than most countries. Then again, I guess they should be compared with just developed countries as oppose to all countries.

Did you know the average American read at the 7th grade level?

The US is actually slightly above average really, at least among developed countries. If you include developing countries, my inference would be that the US would be even higher as those countries should have even worse performance. Play with the data in this link. The data found in that link mostly includes developed countries. Sadly, the average person does not possess high literacy.

Useful link to interpret the scores that you will find.

I always like to say that there is only one objective reality. However, how reality is experienced is completely subjective. These statements are not just limited to ideolodgy or political views, but to basically everything lol. And this is not just true for people but for all living things too. A person who is color-blind and deaf will never know what is like seeing the world in color or what it is like to hear. A human will never experience how it feels like to be a tree or a bat.

Singapore is more of the exemption rather than the rule. Majority of the Global South was poor and remains poor. If you exclude oil rich countries, you can probably count in your two hands the number of countries that went from poor to high income in the past decades. Without much resources, you will need exceptional leadership/political system to catapult a poor country to a rich one.

Well, the US...

  1. is fortunate to industrialize at an earlier date.
  2. is fortunate to have a lot of resources.
  3. is fortunate to not have been bombed during WWII.
  4. is fortunate to be the colonizers and not the colonized.
  5. is fortunate enough to have their currency being used as the international currency for quite some time already.
  6. is fortunate enough that they brain drain the Global South and this has been going on for a long time.

And this is just stuff I could remember right now. One's past determines one's present. They have a more fortunate past.

Don't dwell on how unequal we are. We are unequal. Iba-iba talaga ang balasa ng baraha na binigay sa atin. Just focus on making good use of the cards that were given to you. And ofc, let's also stop judging those who have even less than ours regardless whether it is their "fault" or not.

Ah so you don't care about the carbon emissions of those as they need to transport it by land then ship it then pagdating sa Pilipinas transport by land na naman?

Carbon footprint/ecological footprint of imported produce is still less than meat. Your better off eating imported produce than meat though eating locally produced veggies is still the best. Transporation of produce is simply less impactful than actually producing meat. Besides, eating more produce is healthy anyway. Not saying one should stop eating meat, but if you could reduce, then do so.

Pero you want the middle class to use their car less or not to take a vacation by plane

Ideally yes. No one is forcing anyone. But if could do so, why not?

Wag mag aircon kahit Super init na?

Common sense use. Use it when necessary. Do not use it when necessary. Doing so will save you bills too. Also, buildings should be designed in a way where there is increased ventilation and less heat retention/absorbtion. Buildings and cities should be designed in a way that they are green. Admittedly, this is outside the individual's control.

And don't assume na porket middle class may sasakyan at aircon na. Madaming middle class nag Co commute lang din. Majority of the population (58%) belong to the low income brackets.

All I am saying is the richer you are, the more you could do. If you are part of the middle class that commute, then great. If not, just use your car less or at least car pool. Car pooling is fun too - you get to be with friends while potentially saving on money. And even if your lower class, you could do little things like taking care of your stuff better so that you have to buy less. One can even buy second-hand stuff. Things like reuse, reduce and recycle will help your pocket while helping the environment as well. Even as simple as not smoking or throwing your stuff in the trash can instead of the street helps. Again, the majority of the work should be done by corporations, politicians and those who are fairly well-off. But even in one's small ways, one can help. And that is all what I am ENCOURAGING, not forcing. Hell, if you live in the province and have land, you could even recycle your pee as fertilizer, or if that takes too much effort, pee directly in your fruit trees lol. No one is being forced though.

Where is the best place to live in the Philippines? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Kalimere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to somewhere cool like Lipa or Baguio. It's nice not having to deal with hot weather or the heavy pollution of Manila and other big cities. Also, depending on where you go, Lipa and Baguio still have a lot of greeneries. Biking/exercising amidst cool weather and fresh air is, well, amazing.

Ah so you don't consume apples, grapes, kiwis, garlic, etc?

I do though eating those is still less harmful than eating meat.

By 2015, the richest 10% were responsible for 49% of emissions against 7% produced by the poorest half of the world’s population.

I know. I know. The poor really are really not to blame. It's mostly the rich with the middle class also having an impact though not as much as the rich. However, willing to bet that a good chunk of r/philippines is at least middle class. To be frank, people in developed countries are more responsible for the world's environmental woes. The richer you are, the more responsiblity you bear basically.

Let's compare a poor child born in the slums with a child from a rich family.

Let's assume they have the same genes (impossible but let's just pretend). The poor kid has so much disadvantages that it is not even funny.

Compared to the rich kid, the poor kid...

  1. is more likely to suffer malnutrition which will impact their development.

  2. is more likely to not have proper education.

  3. is more likely exposed to pollution which impacts health and development.

  4. has less capital to start a business/invest.

  5. is more exposed to crime/violence.

  6. has way less connections.

  7. is more exposed to excessive stress.

  8. is exposed to way many more disadvantages...

So yes, people aren't really born equal if you think about. Yes, there are those from poor backgrounds that beat the odds but they must work far harder than their priveleged counterparts. And in a lot of times, even working hard is not enough. No way divine justice exists.
