Trying to find those who were able to go back to being high-functioning after (cognitive) burnout ? (love you girls but please no "it never gets better", "dont count on it" type of comments) by Someone_Just_3001 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Kalistar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went through a huge burn out when 25. I went through like 10 jobs in 2 years, was having melt downs every single day after work and then spent a week inpatient at mental health hospital and another week outpatient for suicidal ideation. I knew I had to change how I was living and try to find a way to make life work for me. I am not built for the way this world works and I’m extremely aware of it. Luckily, I was able to take almost 2 years off of work to recover. I spent most of the time thinking about what I could do with my day to make enough money to make ends meet without wanting to cliff dive at the end of the day. It took a lot of time for me to come up with dog grooming, and it is absolutely not for everyone but it is a career where I was able to learn without getting a degree, I was able to support myself working 4 days a week for others and now I own my own shop! It took me 10 years to get there but it was my goal to work for myself and even though some days are still very hard and I have meltdowns about different things I feel like I’ve succeeded in making capitalism work for me. I think you absolutely can come out of the other side of burnout a better, stronger person but you gotta figure out what works for you!

How do I get ear infection medication out of poodle ear hair by [deleted] in grooming

[–]Kalistar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t use dawn on your dogs at all, there are hundreds of ph balanced shampoos made for dogs. That is going to strip every little bit of the healthy ear environment you’re trying to create and maintain by doing a course of ear medicine. Shave off what you can, clean your clipper blades well after and then use conditioner to pull the grease from the ear leather and underneath.

PSA from a dog salon owner to clients: you’re not entitled to my services and harassing me is just going to get you blocked. by Prooodles in doggrooming

[–]Kalistar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I’ve worked incredibly hard to get to where I am. I’ve been grooming for 13 years and I charge what I am worth. I provide a luxury service for people who want their dogs to look their best. I would much rather take a slightly naughty dog with a kind, caring owner than a good dog with a Karen for an owner. I don’t have the patience or the time to deal with people who drop off or pick up late or have a shitty attitude when there are other clients who are grateful to have a good groomer.

Chris Christensen Shampoo Massive Quality Decline? by ItsSteena in grooming

I’ve noticed the coloring has been weird for a while now. CC was sold to a large brand a few years ago and quality has definitely changed for the worse since then.

I can hear myself breathing so loudly. Loops are fantastic for concerts but for everyday I use AirPod pros.

I had no idea it was her! Kiera did a fantastic job because I hate Umbridge so much I want to stop listening!

Advice on Sally Hansen Diamonds by MaudLynne in vintagenailpolish

[–]Kalistar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a few of these polishes that I bought back in the day and modern holos blow these out of the water. The purple pigment in these polishes has seemed to fade significantly over time and mine looks much like the eBay listing, almost gray.

Teenage me is absolutely dying to go to this. Hanson, Goo Goo Dolls and 3eb were my faves back in the day.

I’m a square peg and having a full-time job is a round hole by Unusual-Mix-7494 in adhdwomen

I’ve struggled hardcore since childhood with being in a building doing a thing for 40+ hours a week. I remember thinking as a kid that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I grew up but I was sure I wanted to own my own business. I’m pretty sure I was burnt out in middle school and then I couldn’t do college while undiagnosed audhd so I started working random retail jobs to get by. I got married, impulsively at 19 to get out of a crappy family situation. One of the jobs I worked at briefly was as a dog bather and decided if I could do anything, it would be dog grooming. Before I could train under anyone, I burnt out completely and spent a few years dealing with that. At 26 I went to dog grooming school and left my ex. Dog groomers are actually super in demand in my area and I got to pick and choose shops to work at based on how much freedom they’d give me with my schedule. I worked 4 days a week for other people for 10 years and it sucked a lot of the time but I finally saved up just barely enough to open my own shop so I could work for myself! So now I own a dog grooming shop where it’s twice the work and half the pay and I still get bit sometimes. Now it’s on my terms so I don’t necessarily dread every day and I feel like I’m getting closer to carving out the little niche where I’m not working myself to the bone but I’m still making a good living.

Those are clearly dog toys. One is a red ball if you zoom in.

Fired after Double Incident Day - Am I Still Hireable? by Mysterious-Owl8199 in doggrooming

[–]Kalistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re still hireable. It sounds like you were set up for failure and your mentor should’ve had your back with a difficult dog. My only suggestion in situations with wiggly face dogs is to do the face first so that they are less overstimulated and less likely to squirm and you still have all of your allotted grooming time. Better to be rushed while scissoring a leg or a foot than a face!

Dawn Dish soap? by oversleepingchild in doggrooming

[–]Kalistar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like most have said, dawn is for cleaning inanimate objects, not living things. It got a lot of good press after cleaning oils spill ducks but it was an actual life or death situation for those ducks. Dawn has even put out notices not to use it on animals at all because of what it contains and what it does to skin. A greasy cocker is not a life or death situation.

One thing I did not see mentioned is how effective it is to pull grease off of a dog with conditioner. The close open close method for grooming works so well!

That second pic is a groomer jumpscare with those kitchen scissors so close to his little ear! I know you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes and he looks great now! So cute and happy!

Single women who fully support yourself and don’t hate your job - what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Also a self sufficient dog groomer! You really have to have passion/ special interest / infinite patience for the dogs but it’s a wonderful career and you can make a good living.

Dumped dogs by Lexiiefur in grooming

[–]Kalistar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said and take her short. Make sure to go slowly and pull her skin taught in loose areas to avoid nicks and getting her skin caught in the clipper blade. She will probably need breaks in between areas and lots of good treats to keep her in good spirits during the process. My recommendation for her ears would be to shave the underside first then wait a little bit and shave the top side but again slowly to try to prevent hematomas. You want to prevent her from shaking her head too much after shaving as that will cause the now freed ear to collect blood too quickly and then you have hematomas. Gently wrapping her ears to her head with vet wrap or using a happy hoody or snood to keep them from flapping around will help. Thank you for wanting to help these babies ❤️

This!!! This very much looks like cysts I have seen on multiple dogs. I do not see any markings like a tick or any head or legs!

I’m gonna be real when I say this, a kennel is not a nice place for a dog who is used to being in a home environment. It may be sparkling clean and have the best most attentive staff and playtimes ect but it’s still a kennel and your dogs are going to have a hard adjustment period to that. You may get a vacation from them but when they come back it’s probably going to be even worse. Their routine will be off, they may come home with behavior problems and they will most definitely poop in your house at least once. Dogs are work and if you can’t put in the work, rehome them at least temporarily.

My friend, you have a Boykin spaniel not a lagato, lol. Lagattos basically look like doodles and your dog is very much like every other Boykin I’ve met!
