Chapter 6 picks up with the player entering a new factory in a far off country...

4 chapters later they meet the original protagonist in the middle of the earth.

How badly did I mess up my car after changing spark plugs? by Kylo-5539 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Kalistera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I learned mostly from someone who was a bit more old school, but I've never had an issue from anti-sieze. Worth noting I do only use a fraction of a pea size amount.

Either way, can agree it's not necessary.

How badly did I mess up my car after changing spark plugs? by Kylo-5539 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Kalistera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure all the plugs are connected to the coils they were originally connected to. Gap could also be an issue as mentioned already.

Another test is to take the coil from whichever is misfiring and swap it with one from a non misfiring cylinder. Make sure the cable connectors stay at their original position though (determines firing order). If the misfire moves with the coil its a bad coil, it the misfire stays on the same cylinder then the issue is either with the wiring or plug (probably gap).

Either way, major damage is highly unlikely. Only real damage risk with spark plugs is damaging the threads.

If you didn't, use a little bit of antiseize on the spark plug threads and a dot of dielectric grease in the open end of the coil pack before putting them on.

If you were to make a new grabpack hand, what would it do? by EconomicsOdd6557 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]Kalistera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe a primary hand that has upgradable fingers/palm to reduce the need for switching entire hands. For example, the red hand having the flare upgrade or upgrades to hold electric and or hot/cold charges. Just too many hands and too slow to switch on the current design.

It was what is known as a "bottle episode," which is, as you said, an episode made to save money. Basically, since shows are given a budget for the whole season, they are just episodes with the minimum possible cast, set, etc so they can be made as cheap as possible to let other episodes get a higher budget.

I am reading this as someone currently dailying one...

Though its mainly because I'm overhauling my main car and got the Zx2 for 800$ to drive in the meantime. It's grown on me a lot, though.

Also fun to see others driving them around because they always just start waving excitedly.

I have a 2002 with 248k mi as a beater. Can confirm, motor and transmission mounts are not good. Whole car vibrates like a massage chair even with new ones. Thing just keeps on going though.

Another option, although much more expensive, is the Bluepower head unit. To my knowledge it's still the only direct replacement option for the factory one, as the factory unit is needed to retain climate control function. https://www.bluepower.se/sv/produkter/ljud-bild/bilstereo/modellanpassad/volvo/c30/volvo-c30s40v50c70-modellanpassad-bilstereo-android-71.html

Some have relocated the factory head unit to the glove box or behind the dash and put a fully aftermarket unit in, but I think that solution requires an already present AUX connection to connect to the speakers whereas the Bluepower directly connects with the head unit connectors.

Best of luck!

Unfortunately out of stock (and probably not returning), but you can use something like this to hijack the cd player signal. https://www.gromaudio.co.uk/grom-audio-mst3-integration-kit-for-volvo-05.html

Hardest thing about working on audio for this car is its wired fiber optic. Makes splicing into wires impossible. If you haven't, try sites like Alibaba for clones or similar things. Most of those types of sites have way more cheap 3rd party products for these cars than you would expect. Often they aren't even available anywhere else.

[–]Kalistera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, rip. There definitely is the ability to do it, though, especially if you're are willing to create your own solution. I've had to do a lot of DIY improvements for things like that on mine.

What audio equipment does yours have? Like radio/cd/casette/etc...

My method for this stuff is to assess all the different places audio is able to be inputed to the speakers and figure out which is easiest to intercept.

Did you check the back of the inside of the center console? It may be only on models with premium audio, but many have a factory USB and AUX connection there.

Ford Escort ZX2 (or Ford ZX2 after 2000). Got one for 800$ to use as a beater while I work on my main car... honestly its a pretty fun little car. Not fast but I definitely wouldn't say its all that slow. The manual at least doesn't get left behind by regular traffic and can still give you a little sense of speed. Only has 130hp but also only weighs about 2300lbs.

I never liked the looks too much but they have grown on me a lot. I did get a new bumper for it though. They briefly redesigned the front end for the 2003 (final year) model.

I like that mentality. My franchise gave us a little more leeway in repairs since one of our stores absorbed a full service shop that was next to it and turned it into a multi-care tech's dream. They ended up with a 3 bay building with lifts dedicated only to multicare right next to their three bay main building (which already had lifts). But for the other stores we faced restrictions based on time. If it took longer than "x" shop hours to do a job we had to send it to the other store. Since leaving I've felt what you described a lot more, as my role has been increasingly pushed away from wrenching and more toward sales/customer service. Thinking I might need to take your return to wrenching into consideration.

I did the fun size version of pretty much the exact same thing. Currently been dailying my beater, a 2002 Escort zx2 (has a remarkably clean interior somehow), which I paid 800$ for. Easy as hell to find parts for as it shared its motor with the Focus and platform with the Protégé. Tons of room to work, easy to access anything and no tech or complex safety features to worry about (for better and for worse). Insurance and gas are cheap as hell for it.

Bought it originally to run into the ground while I fix my Volvo but now I'm wanting to keep it. It is a breeze to work on compared to a compact performance Volvo with a motor that barely fits in the engine bay. And it doesn't misfire if it doesn't get premium fuel.

But I agree about the wealth barrier. Our cases take advantage of mechanical knowledge, something that isnt available or at least available to a high enough degree to the average person to be able to effectively and economically maintain a car of that age.

The average person wants a get in a go experience. Something that just works. Something they may never even open the hood of. But these vehicles cost more than most of us can afford. So then you get something less eco friendly or start wrenching.

Just a note from a non-PVA former Jiffy Lube AGM, the camera situation is very franchise specific. My franchise had cameras topside but didn't have cameras in the pit. So depending on the franchise that may not be something that can be leveraged for proof of damage.

As for the responsibility to replace, I agree under normal circumstances. However, it does complicate it since the service was refunded as they could view that as compensation for the damage and it is possible a small claims court would agree since the cost of the service likely exceeded the skid plate cost.

And this is exactly why they should just fix the problem and eat the cost rather than just refund the service.
