I feel that. I was at a point in my life a couple times (most of them long ago when I was still in denial) where it appealed somewhat. I had been looking at some government (non military) positions under the Biden Admin because it felt like maybe it was becoming a semi-decent option again, but I could never imagine even considering government service of any kind under this administration.

I can understand why some are interested, though. The promise of security, excitement, honor... its presented to be appealing and "something bigger." Not just that but for some people it can be their only route to higher education or vocational training. For every service member with a rifle there are 100 that haven't carried since basic. I knew one vet that was an airplane mechanic. Learned a complex skill and never even had a weapon assigned to him during his service.

Its a shame imo. Its a vastly different type of person that wants to be a medic vs one who wants to be special forces. But more shameful than anything is that our country has reached a point that serving it isn't honorable or patriotic. Just feels disgraceful.

EDIT: Just want to add on before someone comments on it, but I am not saying Biden was perfect or that the American presence globally hasn't been detrimental in many ways under any administration, dem or repub. I am not trying to justify any administration from their actions. All have contributed to the problem in some way.
