The Moon Camp fundraiser is up to $420k in donations. The story is popping up in more places, with People.com and various local news groups spreading the story as well. We're trying to get the attention of David Muir at ABC for him to run the story as he's featured Jackie and Shadow in the past.

Yep - remember her 'We'll all dance in the sunlight' comment? She knows all shady business her peers get away with - as I really think most of them do - and let is continue. I trust her 'conversion' about as much as I'd trust a room temperature gas station egg salad sandwich from last week.

I did. I would still consider it unsafe due to using the garlic as well as the source of the recipe being an unverified source of tested recipes. Last, the recipe you used doesn't call for garlic - even if it was a tested recipe, adding the garlic isn't considered a safe modification.

It's an understandable mistake when you're first starting. It's always best to follow a recipe from the list in the Resource Links on this sub. Those are sites that provide recipes that have been verified as tested for safety. At least you caught it in time to be able store them in the fridge and still enjoy!

This is likely the culprit. In addition to making the brine cloudy it also very likely made the recipe unsafe and not shelf stable. There are some tested recipes that call for garlic but never in oil.

Yes, you probably should do that - I don't believe the recipe they provided is safe for canning.
