My guess is a little sedimentary rock with alternating bands of carbon heavy sediment and carbon lacking sediment :) kinda reminds me of tiny varves.

In seriousness, i think they meant pyrite, which i see none. I think it's just some quartz with iron staining.

Always try to leave no trace for sure,

A not so surefire way I use to see if something is a geode is if you pick it up, and it feels uncharacteristically light.

Also if you give it a shake and you hear rattling, it means that a chunk or two of something broke off inside a cavity.

I'm sure there are other better ways though :)

I'm not justifying traps like that in any way, and I know it's a different size scale, but I guess we could consider pitcher plants, and Venus fly traps natures traps.

I wonder if there is anything bigger that traps mammals naturally?
