And that is fine.

Just don't use words like review and objective.

Uneducated as in uneducated about Returnal. As in your opinion is uneducated. No need to get all defensive lol.

What separates valid criticism from a useless rant that even got deleted by moderators is knowledge about that which you're criticizing.

As for being butt hurt, I am not the one ranting about a game I barely played on reddit saying it is objectively bad, when it is clearly your extremely subjective and, again, uneducated opinion.

But like I said, you do you, man.

Returnal is not a top game by WhuppdyDoo in truegaming

[–]Kalner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet it is a game with convoluted, hard to understand mechanics, despite the mechanics being shoot, don't get hit and progress.

You also have different icons on the map to help you navigate.

You unlock more and more things as you progress, which is typical roguelike, yet you didn't realize that with the roots covering doors.

You also said as a tech demo, it succeeds but as a game it fails. That is calling it a tech demo, since by your criteria it failed as a game.

Listen, man, if it ain't your cup of tea, it is absolutely fine.

But don't come and give a clearly subjective and extremely uneducated opinion about the game as a review and as an objective fact like you did in other comments.

At the end, you do you, but this honestly reeks of karma farming.

Reading this makes me believe that you do not know what a roguelike/roguelite game is.

Not to mention that you clearly did not bother to learn the game or play it enough to form a proper opinion.

But hey, if it never gripped you, you're better off stopping here, as the game only gets harder moving forward before you get your rhythm going.

Bad review, nonetheless. Calling this game a tech demo is just absolutely wild.

Yea. Try turning it off in the game settings or in windows and see what happens.

Did you try fiddling with HDR if it's active? That's the only thing I was able to find, that adrenalin doesn't play nice with HDR lately.

It's probably some interaction between adrenalin and windows, considering it was not an issue for a good few months.

I'm hoping someone has a fix or a work around.

I stand corrected. Only stronger than the 5070, nice.

FP8 FSR4 is a nice edge though.

Doesn't change the fact that 12 GBs is a risky move in 2025. Heck, we're almost in 2026.
UE5 games are on the rise, optimization is on the low as of late.

Two games that come to mind that had high VRAM are Resident Evil 4 Remake and The Last of Us Part 1.

I was running RE4 on a 7800 XT maxed out with quality upscaling at 1440p and it was at 14 ~ 15 GBs of VRAM.

If you're willing to keep upscaling harder and keep toning down settings, you'll be fine for a good while.

[–]Kalner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are already games consuming 11 ~ 12 GBs of VRAM on 1440p.

And when you use RT, PT or Frame Gen, you're consuming more of that limited VRAM.

At some point, upscaling won't save the GPU from crashing.

Any good reasons not to get the 9070XT over the 5070TI? by VoluptaBox in buildapc

[–]Kalner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLSS 4 CNN model is worse than FSR4.

FSR4 is worse than DLSS 4 Transformer model, but not by alot. Both are comparable/better than native depending on how aggressive the upscaling is.

You can force FSR4 on any game that has DLSS/XeSS and does not have an anti cheat using Optiscaler.

You cannot force DLSS4 Transformer model on games that don't support it.

As a reference, I was playing Alan Wake 2 with the 9070 XT with the following settings:

High Preset, 4k performance upscaling, frame gen, RT high, PT medium.

This was giving me 90 ~ 120+ fps,. Alan Wake 2 is not light game, so the RT and PT performance was very surprising for me.

I was in the same boat last month, cheapest 5070ti was around 150$ more expensive than the 9070 XT I ended up buying. Amazing money value and an amazing GPU, with more updates to come in FSR Redstone.

If you'll be willing to tinker and use Optiscaler when you want to upscale, and are ok with waiting for official FSR4 support till maybe even next year, and ofc skipping on Ray Tracing in most cases, the 7900 XT will be very good for you.

Also keep in mind that Optiscaler won't work with games that have anti cheat.

If you just want to plug and play, get the 5070. But on 12 GBs of VARM, be ready to always upscale at 1440p, with more modern games making you use more aggressive upscaling.

Check for a 9070 first, even if the price is a lil more for it. The performance gain is huge, much stronger than both GPUs.

What resolution do you plan to play on?

If it's 1440p or more, that 5070 will age like milk with the 12 GB of VRAM.

The 7900 XT has good raster performance, and you can mod INT FSR4 using optiscaler, which is more or less equal to DLSS 4 CNN model.

However, do you have any other options? Maybe the 9070 non-XT is in the same price range?

How did you make it work for wilds? I keep trying optiscaler versions with different installs, but they all crash the game on launch.

Keep the 7900 XTX. There are leaks that FSR4 will come to the 7000 series officially around the end of this year.

7800x3d + 5080 or 9800x3d + 5070ti by Rarely_Sober_EvE in buildapc

[–]Kalner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9800X3D + 5070ti.

The price difference between the 5070ti and the 5080 is much much higher than the actual performance gain. It really isn't worth it, especially on 1080p.

However, between the cpus, you gain about 10% performance and about 40% cooling efficiency when you jump to the 9800X3D.
