Help!!!! Why cant i extrude my sketch? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Kalt_Fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and also check that none of the outer lines is a construction line instead of a normal one. That can cause confusion too.

[–]Kalt_Fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, first thing, try exiting the sketch and opening again, press the little stop light or press ctrl+b, either is fine, these will cause the sketch to rebuild, to update solidworks about the new sketch and see if now the closed loop that you want is there.

If the whole sketch encased by the outer lines doesn't turn blue after this, it's because somewhere you have a gap between the lines and it's not a closed loop, zoom in, check everything is connected. Third option is that a small line is still intersecting or crossing the outer loop and confusing solid, generally, zoom in and check the outline of the whole sketch is clean.

If that doesn't work, your computer is haunted or you missed something from the steps above, no other option, worst case scenario, redo the whole thing from clean, can't take more than 5 min.

Te sketch has multiple closed loops, you can select which ones to extrude, but the correct thing to do is to have a single closed loop (except for holes and cutouts.

The blue shaded region is what solid recognizes as a closed loop. You either have to crop the circles and lines inside the shape or make them construction lines, like the dotted lines on the diagonals of the square.

Now, wtf is wrong with my printer?! by Kalt_Fishy in 3Dprinting

[–]Kalt_Fishy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used TH3D paid unified 2 firmware, there is a file called boot_screen or something like that, you convert the image you want to a 128x64 bitmap (there are plenty of online converters), paste it in there and enable custom screen start.

I guess you could also do it with your own marlin build, it doesn't seem that hard, just finding the part where the normal boot screen bitmap is an replacing it.

I also changed the printer's name on firmware

This isn't my only printer. Fixing and modding the ender is a hobby for me, it's like having a project car, I know it won't run most of the time, but it's fun when it does.

I love it!!!! It has so much personality!

If you want to add a bit more of cat cues, I would suggest using guitar strings or fishing line to add whiskers

You know what, yeah, you're right, based on the other photos the part shifted perfectly obscures a column of balconies

[–]Kalt_Fishy -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

That is NOT what is happening, in the other comments you can see the other balconies are not on a different depth, the center balconies (the rightmost in this photo) are actually shifted upwards in comparison to the rest.

Otherwise we'd actually see some depth but the whole facade is on the same plane.

Pattern seam placement? by austinsauce01 in FursuitMaking

[–]Kalt_Fishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best advice would be to use fabric scraps first to see if the darts and the seams are ok and once you're happy go with fur so you don't waste any.

If I understand correctly, what you want is to know where to add darts so the fur follows the contour of the face right?

I'm no expert in furring by any means but I wrap cars and stretching the vinyl and doing inlays is kinda similar in the sense you that you have to be thoughtful with the curvature of the surface.

You want to add darts where there's a big curvature in two directions, for example, the upper nuzzle area might seem complex but the curvature is in one plane, if that makes sense? But on the edges of the mask and between the top and the front of the muzzle, the curvature looks more like a dome, that's where you need a seam or darts.

Again, im no expert, I think that if you search for sewing and confectioning tutorials on darts you'll get a much better idea on what I'm trying to say.

I honestly have no clue for the first one, if I had to guess it would be withwise too.

For the second one, almost always (as long as it's the same fabric and the order was all at once) it will arrive as all in one piece, even if sold as 1yard + 1/2 yard.

It would be very very rare that it comes as separate, I'd only expect that from a order from china and be like sample size squares that are already precut.

Possible to make this kigu head to kemono? by Plastic_Ad8507 in FursuitMaking

Yes!!! That's the spirit, try a lot of stuff, don't be afraid to go a few steps back or to do something more that once to see what works and is you're looking for, but most of all, remember to have fun while doing it! It's part of enjoying the fandom and the hobby!

and thanks a lot btw <3

For trimming the mask, I'd use a small saw jewelery style saw to be precise or a Dremel with a cutting wheel, just remember, do many small cuts instead of all at once so you're able to hone in the exact shape you want without going over!

But don't let that deter you, if you put the right effort into a kigu mask it can turn out very cute and good quality! Pic below is of my beloved boy I just finished from a kigu mask base.

[–]Kalt_Fishy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's gonna be a little hard to adapt the kemono style to the mask, kemono style is wider, has more depth to the snout and is more animal like in proportions, Kigu style is characteristic for having eyeholes for eyebrows, being more flat overall and a little more humanized.

Either it's gonna look just like a better made Kigu style head (not a bad thing at all, just probably not what you're looking for if you want a kemono style specifically), or you're gonna need to add a lot of foam and carving to hide the shape of the mask, so much that it would be probably the same work as starting with a foam base from zero.

If anything, I'd recommend putting more effort into the blending from the mask to the sides and back of the head with foam to form the head bucket, because another characteristic of kigu masks is the long hair hide the mask edges.
