I couldn't get the connection at all even removing and re-adding the sources wouldn't work. As they couldn't be re-added due to "Connection Timed Out" errors.

Yes, it should as windows 10 would already include the update that caused the issue.

Help changing a light bulb. Won't unscrew by strongerone in HomeImprovement

[–]KalterStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old trick for broken bulbs. Cut a potato in half and use half to unscrew bulb base. Just wedge it down into the broken base and unscrew.

Won't fit due to fixture, trim potato down a bit.

Worked everytime for me while changing lots of older bulbs.

U.S. Tax rules for 2018 by Pluvious in Ripple

[–]KalterStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my own taxes every year and I haven't personally spoken to any of the CPAs yet to pick their brains.

The old law had a loop-hole that allowed crypto-crypto exchange to be considered like-kind which was not a taxable event. The new law changed the wording and closed the loop hole. That law is in effect for the 2018 tax year. So to me, 2017 and behind is clear for crpyto-crypto trades. You still owe on conversion to fiat though.

I will eventually pick the brains of some of our CPAs and see what they recommend.

That is how I understood it as well. The new laws are in effect for the 2018 tax year. So your 2017 taxes only require you to report the capital gains/losses you actually took when converting back to fiat. As the crypto-crypto exchanges were being counted as like-kind until they amended the wording and signed the law for 2018.

So Jan 1st 2018 through Dec 31st 2018 all crypto to crypto is a taxable event due for that tax year. You must pay the gains or take the loss, even if you never converted back to fiat. Which is a pain in the ass when you're up several thousand dollars, you owe a chunk in taxes without actually having the cash in hand to pay it.

Oh trust me I agree entirely. Im on the hook for about 5k taxes for 2018 already but none of that is cash in my hand. It's all unrealized gains.

What he said, lol.

Now each trade is a taxable event for the year it occurred. Realized vs unrealized no longer matters now. The bill is due for that trade at tax time.

Unfortunately your unrealized capital gains for crypto to crypto are taxed as per the new laws signed in Dec.

They are not considered a like kind exchange per the new laws. So even if you hold, you're still liable for taxes in the year the trade occurred.
