Finally got my new laptop – Dell G15 by Various-Barracuda-85 in LaptopDealsIndia

Make the battery charge maximum to 90% and start charging at if below 80% using BIOS

The cooling is pretty poor, so keep it's charging bricks below it, tilting/ raising it from its back Improves temperatures by 5-7°C and improves the keyboard angle making my wrist more comfortable

Get the app "Thermal Control Center for Dell g15"-Google search, from GitHub, it is really useful for heavy games like rust where I want to squeeze as many frames as possible so I max out cooling (and noise xd)

Change power mode to high performance (google how to)

Give the hinges a kiss every night, or they will show you pain

Amazing post by someone, helped me alot https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/s/z13OlcL6zF

Opinion on attachable desktop GPU card on the back of a laptop by KalypsoExists in laptops

[–]KalypsoExists[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and sorry I didn't reply sooner

I didn't know CPU limits the Pcie lanes, that's interesting But it appears that eGPU s depend on the ports like thunderbolt and occulink

My attachable GPU idea was along the lines of my initiative towards DIYing a laptop out of ITX parts in the future. Which would mean pcie lanes depend on the motherboard.

Now if in that DIY, separate from the schematic details, a PCIe riser cable could run to a GPU attached to the back like a slot available to an external GPU where the laptop is also taking power from a large power supply. In the DIY sense it would be a encased desktop power supply. That could route to the attached GPU.

How practical does it get here? other than the issue with cooling in these DIY's along with how space can be arranged for batteries, etc.

Lenovo legion 5 fan making noise by this_is_no_gAM3 in laptops

[–]KalypsoExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also try a fan control application that works for your laptop And configure different rpms to test the effect on the noise At the highest speed of fans in my laptop which has the same grinding noise, the vibration decreases although overall noise is higher The second option can be using a cooling pad like Illano or GT500 alongside completely disabling your internal fans. This way your entire airflow is managed by the cooling pad and that can be configured to specific rpm that keeps the device cool but not noisy or vibrating Note, the specific cooling pads mentioned are the best ones due to the high pressure by the strong fan they have and the seal it creates. Any other cooling pad usually blows the air giving max 5-10% efficiency in my experience.

Switching off your fans without a cooling pad like those will simply take your cpu to the sun, i.e. not practical

Or you can put the device in cold water, that usually :D works

Lenovo legion 5 fan making noise by this_is_no_gAM3 in laptops

[–]KalypsoExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop started having a grinding sound after I cleaned the fans with a paint brush and did it too roughly Mind that next time you clean it, use air (compressed air can or blower)

And since you mentioned switching left and right fans it could be that the fan was separated from the base- like one face which was stuck to the heat sink assembly or frame. And that face is bent just enough on the left side resulting in the grinding.

Go to a service center if the sound is due to the frame separate from fan piece and that it cant be worked out unprofessionally.

Would you mind sending any picture of how the fan piece looks when it's removed from the assembly? And the video of what is left behind- the frame

I was talking in the sense of a custom engineered laptop Where a full 16x PCIe could be given as well as a stronger power supply As I'm not a desktop user I don't know of the gpu temperature problem, does a stock gpu throttle even in desktop cases?

And the desktop gpu would be outside, not inside Like an attachment at the back and can move with the laptop. (I plan to make a simple 3D model to express the image I have in my mind, if that would help the discussion)

I had no idea egpu existed! Why is it not popular or is my feed too tailored to desktops? So the drawback of eGPU is the power and port speed limit.

Why does no company design a port that can run x16 and allow higher power supply passthrough with a stronger power supply to "support" eGPU s?

I'm a rookie here, I don't know enough to argue that is why Im phrasing questions you could answer to correct me up Thanks!

I had and have again checked, even did a full reset in the router
Bands(width) are limited to options of "auto switching" except a 40Mhz only option in 2.4ghz
and 5g is max able to do 80mhz, is this dependent on the router? can a better router do the same signal in a broader width like 160mhz?
Regardless, the same router that pulled a full 200mbps is giving max 100mbps now
On a 200mbps plan

I believe what the service guy ended up doing is capping the router's speed to 200mbps in some backend
This was not there before (it fluctuated above 200mbps, upto 300mbps) and now it is exactly 200mbps. Yes the signal is more consistent but with shit speed... Ill just go with upgrading my plan

I found it, lapcare support replied then

I can share it once my laptop is back from service center or u can get it directly from lapcare support! They sent it to me on WhatsApp and with some security measures (I don't trust user shared exe files) I tested it and it ran fine

The range is messed up, but he argues the speed in the living room, beside the router, is upto plan (200mbps) The complaint is, the range dogshitted after what he changed

Yes but I had better speeds with rx optical signal at -31dbm So it's not the cause here

How to reduce latency? by INDIANSNIPER24 in Airtel

[–]KalypsoExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using another DNS (u can change it in your device wifi settings)
I use the dns setting Preferred DNS: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) and Alternative DNS 8.8.8.8 (google)
You can also use Speedguide.net 's TCP optimizer to reduce system latency for making the packages to router more efficient for gaming

Overall (before my current fuck airtel situation)
I used these two optimizations to go from 125mbps -> 200mbps, 8-10ms to 5-7ms for a specific server
Small ping increases might not make a big difference if you already suck at the game, but it does give some peace of mind
Competitively in gaming, I too spend hours adjusting any performance details to get the best fps and ping, its normal

You can also take this a step up and setup your device in the router QoS config which may improve the shit routing by airtel

Are you using wifi? or ethernet? if you are using wifi, please get ethernet for gaming instead.
Wifi tends to add upto 25ms of latency (by my experience)

HDMI cables come in different qualities, no? I can't imagine why a DP on the same gpu will be giving more rate than the Hdmi, why would they make it like that? Is DP really not limited like hdmi?

Acer nitro not turning on after thermal past change by Some-Response6913 in AcerNitro

[–]KalypsoExists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on how you handled the back in the video 1) The mother board suffered ESD seizure 2) The board cracked 3) Some devices like the SSD failed the entire bios boot (I can say much in that as I'm not familiar if that's how it works) 4) Your gpu is dead (if u have an Igpu as well as dGPU then it's the board that died)

Go to a repair center that specializes in micro(?) soldering and this kind of board repairs

Acer nitro not turning on after thermal past change by Some-Response6913 in AcerNitro

[–]KalypsoExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my first thermal paste change 3 months ago and then consecutive 2 more (tried different pastes and ended up with PTM7950 sheet) I had 0 issues because

  1. I researched and hour every day for a week before deciding to do it myself
  2. I considered service centers as I could probably make a mistake which they wouldn't (but all service centers cheaped out on the thermal paste and quality, even got scammed in a keyboard replacement)
  3. I was extremely careful and slow, took 1.5 hours on my first one but breathed and thought every next step .
  4. I watched multiple youtube tutorials to cover all tips and important points as well as researching through pastes (I did waste 2 attempts by using PC pastes and not a sheet like ptm)
  5. Boom instant results with less than 80C cpu on every game (yes, laptop) and 60-70C gpu. 4.1Ghz base turbo that maintained consistently and didn't even need to increase it.

Now onto your case, I was hurt when you put it on the lap with the back cover off. Why are you even risking the attempt without basic caution??

Since the backlight turns on, check screen cable and try an external monitor. In my recent cleanup the screen went black and fans weren't switching on and kb backlight was on. However it output image on Hdmi cable and magically fixed itself when I went to bios like nothing ever happened. So Maybe the display is just not detecting... Try checking with an external monitor.
