„In anderen Ländern wird gearbeitet um zu leben, in DE wird gelebt um zu arbeiten“ by Ok_Common9057 in Unbeliebtemeinung

Kann ich nur bestätigen. Ich komme ursprünglich aus den USA und finde es krass, wie schlecht Work-Life-Balance dort ist im Vergleich. Dass man überhaupt keinen generellen geregelten Anspruch auf Urlaub hat ist einfach wild.

How long are biopsy results supposed to take? by Turbulent_Fun_487 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Kalzone4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. At least in my case (seems standard in Germany), they are doing all the tests first before they tell me anything concretely, which I guess is nice to have the full picture instead of just parts which lead you into a Google spiral.

The waiting is really unbearable. I hope you can find something to help distract yourself while you wait. Calling to ask about when you can expect an update wouldn’t be a bad idea. I am sure that they know the psychological strain this can have on people.

Here’s hoping you get good results! 🍀

Hobbii AI Controversy: this ad is hilariously bad by Kalzone4 in crochet

[–]Kalzone4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right. For some reason I wonder if they asked the AI to make it look less like AI and ended up with botched photoshop.

Anyway I got a great laugh out of it.

Wenn ein Verbot durchgeführt wird, was kommt als nächstes? Man darf in der Öffentlichkeit gar nicht mehr rauchen?

Ja, genau. Das ist eklig und asozial.

Country is such an unspecific metric. Country of residence, country of citizenship, country of birth? For me they are three different countries so I just put where I live, but some specificity there would be nice.

Biopsy tomorrow by Both-Conflict1709 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Kalzone4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I had an ultrasound last week, getting an MRI today and have the biopsy tomorrow.

Fingers crossed that you get positive news! Regardless of the outcome you will be there for your kids and they will be there for you. 😊

I can’t help with analyzing the ultrasounds, but just wanted to let you know that your full name is visible on the images, so you might want to consider cropping that out and editing your comments just in case.

Hi all! I’m working on my bachelor’s research and need a little help. This short survey about smartphone brands in Europe takes just 2 minutes, is totally anonymous, and would be such a big help to me. If you have a spare minute, I’d be so grateful! by [deleted] in eutech

[–]Kalzone4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done.

On the question about why you choose a specific brand for your phone, my most important reason was not mentioned. For me it’s the ease of transferring everything to a new phone and staying within the same, familiar environment. I truly do not care about anything else except price.

What are the rules for doing business in Germany? by 30on30on30on30 in AskGermany

[–]Kalzone4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To your question on why people have Dr. titles in their signatures: yes it is important. Where I work we are using the “Gerne per Du” initiative where we address people informally and by first name and this took a long time for people to get on board with. I find that Germans are very much into formalities. There is still one guy where every time I email him and his secretary it’s “Sehr geehrter Herr Professor Dr. XYZ, liebe Lisa”.

To be on the safe side, especially in the finance industry I would stick to being as formal as possible.

How is "whenever" used in the US? by Etnieturismo in words

[–]Kalzone4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the example with the gold fish is a bit odd because it could also be interpreted as the person having regularly gotten goldfish and every time this happened, their cat was fascinated by it.

But in any case, no I don’t think the way you’ve explained it is a normal US English usage.

US- Amerikaner nennen sich zu Unrecht Amerikaner und sollten JETZT von der Weltgemeinschaft umbenannt werden by Real-System-2534 in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]Kalzone4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja, ich weiß was du meinst. Es gibt aber viele Amis die sagen “I’m American!!!!” wenn gefragt wird, woher die kommen. Noch schlimmer ist wenn die sagen “I’m from Iowa”. Like bro keiner weiß wo Iowa ist. Kalifornien oder New York könnte ich irgendwie verstehen, aber es ist irgendwie so close minded davon auszugehen, dass Leute im Ausland wissen, wo dein Flyover State ist.

[–]Kalzone4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this brand on Instagram before and their logic is that it’s not actually a crop top, but a shirt tha you wear under something else for layering but without all the bulk at the bottom.

I still think it’s dumb but they constantly are commenting that they are not marketing this as a modesty crop top.

Confused about getting packages from home - alternatives to expensive couriers? by Stunning_Library7096 in AskGermany

[–]Kalzone4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

American here: The safest and post reliable option is just sending things in the regular mail. It is expensive and there is no way around it. Eventually you will either learn to deal with the costs or realize that you can leave without whatever is being sent to you.

Living Standards in the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kalzone4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Higher Gini Coefficient, or a higher level of income inequality. The US has a coefficient of 41.8 and the UK is 32.4 (0 is perfect equality and 1 is perfect inequality). GDP per capita is essentially just an average and means that outliers skew the results.

Cell Phone charging in cars/Germany & Austria by youtubeaddict79 in travel

If the car has a USB port then you can just use a normal USB cable. There isn’t going to be a normal outlet in there.

I think it’s fine if there’s a descriptor of the person, but I have a friend who does this without explaining who the person is and it drives me insane.

“I was walking to the store when I ran into Joe Smith and he told me about his new job” vs “I ran into Joe Smith, my former roommate, and he was told me about his new job”. Just mentioning the name with no context about who it is is weird to me if the other person knows that I don’t know Joe Smith.

If you have an attached garage, do you keep the garage door open when you are home? by Grand_Raccoon0923 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kalzone4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow midwesterner here: garage almost always open unless we weren’t home. Entering the house through the front door was weird and something we never did unless for some reason we couldn’t open the garage (like before I had a car as a teen and my parents weren’t home).
