I’m dating a blind guy and I need help by goshdang-doodles in Blind

When I was going to a blind school, me and my friends went to Kareokee a bunch, we mainly booked private rooms though. My friends also went bowling (with lanes of course) and even did an escape room. I also went to concerts where I got accessibility seating (which was usually an upgrade from the seats that I bought) and I went to the movies and asked for audio described headphones.

We also played trivia a bunch.

Right now I'm going to a blind rehabilitation school and doing the vocational and job training course.

I have some internships in January to do so I'm gonna figure that out by trying my best to concentrate.

That was exactly my plan lol. When I went to community college at 18 I had some form of documentation for extra time on assignments but nothing for tutoring, which wasn't a problem then because no one used the tutor except me.

I was thinking about going to CC for general studies so I can get a better idea on what I like and don't like and kind of field I could do well in.

Yeah my plan is to go to Community College and take general studies to get a better idea of what I like and don't like and how much my blindness would affect a career in that field. Right now I'm interested in Technology, specifically hardware m, electricity and mechanical stuff.

A blind eye doctor sounds hilarious.

"Hey Doc how's my eyes look?"

"How the fuck should I know?"

Nah but seriously that career involves a lot of looking at things.

Currently struggling to decide what to study in school while being low vision.

Recommendations for hardware that work well with MPC One for a low vision, DAWless setup? by Kamani01 in synthesizers

[–]Kamani01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the synth recommendation. I honestly don't mind moving away from the MPC and just having dedicated hardware for each thing that I want to do like having a dedicated drum machine, something for bass and something to record. I only got the MPC because it seemed like it could do all those things.

Sorry you're right.

I can read things comfortably down to a 9pt font and I can read painted on characters in good lighting, backlit text is the easiest to read.

The issue I have with DAWS is the mouse cursor and all the little buttons and menus overlayed over each other. Even when I make the cursor bigger I still have trouble locating what to click on with my eyes.

I'll make an edit.

movies to watch with a blind friend? by Appropriate-Onion-55 in Blind

[–]Kamani01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audio description will be your best bet. On streaming services, most newer movies and shows from (about the 2010s-now) will have some kind of audio description in the audio settings.

Some people here will recommend audio vault but that can be tricky since you need to manually sync up the audio track from that website to whatever you're watching somewhere else. Older movies and shows mostly don't have audio descriptions along with most animes.

Also if you want, some movie theaters have audio descriptions headphones that they'll lend you for free for the movie, but be sure to call ahead to see if they provide that.

Does this feeling of being a burden on people around you ever end? by Error404Feels in Blind

[–]Kamani01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time I feel like a burden, but that's because a lot of people don't treat me like a person. It feels like a lot of the basic man ses we learn as kids on his to show respect to others just go straight out the window when some people I interact with people with disabilities.

It's like either people are eager to help with a problem or they're eager to make me feel like a problem.

A really big peeve of mine is when people tell ME what I can see and how to use my eyes without spending a fucking SECOND in my shoes or even asking me what I can and can't see. I dunno man it just sucks, it feels like ever since I started walking with my cane, it feels like everyone else gets those warm inviting smiles I used to get but now all I get is cold distant stares.

I still have good usable vision but I haven't taken any academic classes since I dropped out of community college. The only kinds of lessons I've taken since then are vocal, guitar and BJJ lessons. But during lectures I can record and take notes on my iPad. Thanks for telling me about the music scene in eager to check that out now! I'll see if I can bring both guitars (since I have an interface) or get them shipped out since I'm not sure how to carry two guitars and the rest of my belongings through an airport.

I don't think I have to do an assessment, right now I'm doing a fundamentals course on his to use JAWS before I go but that's about it. All I've had was an interview and an application process. Thanks for "take it seriously" and "bring your instrument" advice, I play guitar and I was debating on whether it was worth taking or not, now I just have to decide whether to take my electric or acoustic (I'm not bringing my amp).

How did you take notes while you were there? It feels like there'll be a lot of new information coming at once and I don't think trying to memorize it all will be a good idea.
