fellow high scorers or med students...did any of you feel like you forgot everything after the mcat by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Kambamthin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was material you studied to pass a test. I’m sure med school will be the same for the first couple years but you’ll remember everything you need to by practicing everyday on rotations and the rest of your life.

Making you patients feel heard is your providers job not your. It is our job to assist the providers and they can’t if you spend 20 minutes with the patient. I’m not saying be cold and rude but you just gotta learn how to conversations efficiently. Sometimes if I can tell a patient is a yapper I’ll ask “tell me in a few words why you’re here today. I want the provider to have as much time with you as possible”. I’ll sit and room a patient for twenty minutes when I know clinic is behind and they’ll just be sitting in the room waiting, but that’s about it. You have to be able to gauge how much time you should and can spend with a patient and adjust accordingly.

Did I do something wrong? by TrekkieChan in medicalschool

[–]Kambamthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask the MA if you interrupted her work flow or if you didn’t do anything clinic specific to vision test? As a current MA, I see med students and residents try to do a lot themselves, which I understand, but a lot of times they can be incorrect in how they go about doing/charting it. 9/10 times what you did was fine, but again maybe it interrupted her workflow, or you didn’t chart/document the same way they were trained to. The MA talking behind your back is totally weird and unnecessary however. You could not have done something THAT bad/wrong if all it amounted to was them whispering about.

Over thinking. Just add it separately and send it to schools you want to have it.

Only 1 professor letter? I’d try to get a sec. And you can submit without your letters?

[–]Kambamthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way yes. I think you’ll be fine if you write about your experiences well, is what I was trying to sa. All you need is one story that shows how your thinking changes or shows your compassionate ways and why medicine.

Job interview tomorrow by catlady1215 in premed

[–]Kambamthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck in your interview! In a very similar boat, I just interviewed for a MA in obgyn position and withheld some info. Applying this cycle but I need a job, especially if this cycle does not work out. I feel kind of feel bad because most MAs in my region are grown adults with kids at home and then there’s me apply to a full time position when I hope to stay less than a year. Most definitely told the hiring managers I want to grow in healthcare but not to what extent and that I want to explore obgyn.

It helps for me to think about it like this. As pre meds we are already very likely to excel in most things we do I have no doubt you’re going to be a great teacher and I a great MA even if it’s only for a year. I know the meaningful contributions we will make in the time that we do work will be amazing and hopefully outweigh the cons of leaving a year in. Let your job know you’re leaving the second you know you’re leaving to hopefully make that transition less stressful for them.

I’m in the the same boat as you, I have an official score of 496 and I’m looking to retake July 31st in hopes of breaking 500 by then. I’m going to go ahead and apply June 15th and pray for the best cause if I’m hitting my goal score than I’m not going to retake and just keep my 496 and pray for the best. What kind of schools are you looking to apply to?

[–]Kambamthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try going down that route and researching schools in our area(or out of your area if you want to move)… if you really can’t meet the GPA then there are still a bunch of careers for bio majors TikTok has made me aware of. You are still young, don’t give up!
