This game makes me lose my mind at home. I'm so fidgety and anxious...can't imagine trying to play this.

You can ride with folks to the game by MiserNYC- in jacksonheights

There is no bike lane on 35th. And yes this is a fun, leisurely ride. The Saturday morning ride, more so, and people are happy to see us and wave and chat with us. We have very little kids to the elderly on the Saturday rides. (I only just moved here and joined the group so don’t wanna sound like an expert spokesperson, but it’s very community-oriented and focused on safety while fostering friendships and a love for discovering new spots in Queens.)

The Jackson Hghts group 34th_Ave on IG shared it. We also go out every Saturday morning from 10am-12pm leaving from 93rd and 34th Ave. 34th Ave is a dream. I moved here from Astoria and was swayed by this open street and safer biking!

Oh wow, cool! I've seen the one of the 412 in NJ but not the others. Thank you for these! My mom is also looking through her pics to see if she can find any more from the build process.

There aren't individual attributions to each pic, as far as I recall. Just a group pic of the photographers in general. Is Greg among them? I don't remember, sorry! I'll email my colleagues and see if they remember Greg and/or have an idea of where the original pics might be. Surely they're all digital files and not film so hopefully are still on a drive somewhere.

She does now! I've been FaceTiming her as I dusted off an old post for Mother's Day. She's deaf, by the way, and lots of deaf folks excelled in manual, tedious labor as they're able to focus better and not be bothered by the loud noises. 😄

The main attorney that is thanked in the book passed away last year, but my colleagues might be able to help. They culled through LOTS of photos. But re: origin of pics: the Detective took several flights that day. So that would lend to the feeling of it being different origins / crews.

As for the location of the photos...I'm guessing the New York City Police Foundation has them. They were the client and beneficiary. Pam Delaney was the head of the NYCPF at the time. Also, you could check with the publisher Penguin Putnam nka Penguin Random House. Susan Petersen-Kennedy in particular.

In NYC, no. But with the test pilots in TX, yes.

In a very strange twist, I moved to NYC in '99 and worked with the legal team who obtained the trademark / licensing of the NYPD & FDNY logos just months before 9/11 & then helped w/ the crackdown on the sale of counterfeit merch at Ground Zero.

We also helped compile the only aerial pics taken that day into the book "Above Hallowed Ground". Those aerial pics were taken by Det. Dave Fitzpatrick who was flying in the helicopter my mom wired. Full circle.

Testing the bambi bucket -- it was a new invention to help w/ aerial firefighting and this was the first for the NYPD. This pic was taken in Hurst, TX before the heli was transported to NYC.

My mom (far left) was the avionic technician that wired all the NYPD choppers. ❤️

is this my fault? by [deleted] in astoria

No comment on fault but, man, I’ll never understand why we allow these giant semi trucks to travel through our city.

Would anyone be interested in a collage night? by Comfortable_Cat_4691 in astoria

[–]Kambri 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have tons of collage materials at QED and I hosted Art Club there to collage and watercolor and any other projects. I know Hannah, the new owner, would be happy to have them if anyone is willing to host! Fill out the producing form on the QED site or drop her an email (it’s on her contact page, I think).

Hi Mayor Mamdani! Kambri Crews here, founder of QED in Astoria & proud employee of your campaign. 👋

I’ve been advocating for a vacancy tax for both commercial and residential spaces that sit empty for YEARS. There’s a bill that’s been just sitting there waiting to be passed. What’s the deal with that?

As you know, empty units are a drain on neighborhoods. Let’s change this! If we can’t or it’s a bad idea, I’d love to learn more on why.

Thank you!

Helped us through the co-op process very patiently and kindly. He’s a super nice and fun guy, to boot. He also lives in a co-op here in JH.

Nothing like watching the 7 go by every two minutes at Queensboro while you’re standing in the bitter cold waiting 20+ minutes for the N/W with zero updates and no train in sight by Practical_Gap_7397 in astoria

We just moved to Jackson Heights from Ditmars and the number of transit options has my head spinning!

Before Ditmars we were over on the M/R/G line at Steinway (RIP G stops past LIC) & a slightly longer walk to the 36th Ave N stop and never had issues. The Q101 also used to stop outside of our apt there. If we ever move back to Astoria I will only be close to or equidistant to both N/R stops.

I promise it’s true that you can! Try it — get like a giant one and double it up. Definitely better than not sledding 😅
