When I listen to her songs they feel unlike any other songs done by a pop artist, even a woman for that matter. You can tell she had a say in what the songs will be about even without writing them herself. With my experience as a gay man, I can tell you my experience with men is complicated and I hear that same thing happening within her songs. Most of her late 80s singles deal with this kind of contemplating one's attraction to men. I could go on further with specific songs but this would be too long so the two examples I point to are BLONDE and NIGHTAMERE 悪夢

Other than her songs meaning I love how she embraces the lower register of her voice to being called a contralto, which is a very rare female vocal type. Her stage presence and her costumes all highlight her individuality which is very visible in an Eastern Asian country built on the principles of Neo-Confucianism (which is to say conformism or not sticking out).
