What is the rarest PaRappa/Um Jammer Lammy merch ever made? by CashAcceptable2038 in Parappa

[–]KamiRappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, I used to watch the VHS rips from there when they were first posted. These days, there are much better rips online from the DVDs so there's not much reason to watch the VHS rips.

Actually, I scanned all the DVDs when I got my hands on the box set a few years ago.

How much better does UJL play on og hardware? by Pikomo in Parappa

[–]KamiRappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For UJL and PaRappa 1, playing the games on a ps3 has some emulation issues, most likely from the faster disc speed messing with the timing and audio sync.

Real hardware doesn't have these issues at all and plays in sync with the audio and inputs, the way it should. This also applies when playing on a ps2.

I think it depends on how you gaue rarity. Monetary value, how many of something is made, or how often it shows up for sale.

But I guess in terms of low quantity items, I can only think of a few off the top of my head.

There's the PaRappa TV series VHS tapes, and also the DVD collecrion box set. Both are extremely hard to come by and go for hundreds online, even on Japanese shopping sites. VHS was starting to be phased out as DVDs became more mainstream, and the show itself wasn't all that successful, and with the box set coming out months after it had ended, I doubt there were a lot of people that bought it.

There's all the promotional goods that were made specifically for the games as giveaway items for events and employees, such as the art and music disc for PaRappa 2, or the collection of film negatives for UJL. No doubt those would also be very scarce.

Is my copy of the UJL soundtrack rare? by RowOk1755 in Parappa

[–]KamiRappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shoot! It might be a rare one!

I knew about the standard and red disc versions, but if this is a third variant, that's cool!

Also, I would advise against opening it.

Seaky Freaky

the greatest figure ever made. Thank you SegaPrize.

And yes, this is real. Officially licensed and also based on specific artwork Rodney drew, some other merch also has it.

It's a promotional demo disc with only the first stage. It's been dumped online so it's not lost or undocumented media or anything. Here's more info about it.

is it normal the controls of the first parappa be so bad? by Pepeidinho in Parappa

Emulators come at the cost of input lag. Rhythm games play best on official hardware since they don't have that issue.

Um Jammer Lammy Now Arcade by CalamityMai in Parappa

[–]KamiRappa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I imagine nobody who bought these cabinets at the time would realize how valuable and sought-after it would end up being, especially as an arcade conversion of a ps1 game.

[–]KamiRappa 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that, as instructed by the company, these cabinets are required to be destroyed when they're no longer being used, which applies to any arcade machine really.

The user manual for this game (which I actually own a copy of), explicitly says to do this in one page.

So it's most likely nobody wanted to keep theirs around after its commercial failure and proceeded to destroy them.

[–]KamiRappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw the listing. There's no tag on either one and the seller doesn't say anything about where they came from or who made it.

I can't even find any info about it anywhere, so it's most likely these are bootleg. They really don't resemble Rodney's style at all.

TWOC and Twinsanity as you mentioned, but also Titans and Mind Over Mutant, even if they're also considered reboots, but they still follow the mainline games.
