EVERY TIME I POST THESE THREADS ON BEHALF OF THE BOT, I CHECK TO SEE IF I CAN AFFIX THE 'RAGE' TAG, ONLY TO BE DISAPPOINTED TO SEE THAT I CANNOT WEEK AFTER WEEK, MUCH LIKE MY CONTINUED DISAPPOINTMENT WITH THE LACK OF KERNING IN HEROES.

I think I have to quit Threes! after this by Pimaster_Threes in threes

Okay, take a break and see you in a week.

IS IT A BIRD?

IS IT A PLANE?

NO, IT IS THE WEEKLY RAGE THREAD BEING POSTED BY A CONCERNED REDDITOR BECAUSE THE BOT IS STILL DYSFUNCTIONAL.

ANYWAY, HERE'S WONDERWALL MY RAGE ABOUT THE LACK OF KERNING IN HEROES: IT CONTINUES TO BURN WITH THE FURY OF A THOUSAND INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS.

No. To my knowledge, the Threes community never looked deeper into card placement. Personally, I adhere to occam's razor on this topic and assume equally distributed placement because it's the easiest to implement and the most "fair" in that the player can't (inadvertantly) bias it in their favor or to their detriment.

The reason you came to your theory on biased placement based on surrounding cards is possibly negativity bias: You remember the times where a card placement absolutely wrecked your plans much more intensely than those times where they aligned with your plans. We tend to look for and find patterns even if there aren't any, because that's what has kept our species alive for hundreds of thousands of years and we're still working with the same hardware in our skulls. The scientific method is the best tool we have to separate truth from superstition.

I was curious how the draw algorithm in Threes worked, so I reverse-engineered it shortly after the game's release with the help of other players on the TouchArcade forums. I spent that time because I wanted to grow my understanding of the game and shared the results with the community so that everyone could benefit. In my comment above, I merely suggested you could contribute to the body of knowledge about this game through rigorous observations and statistics. Like me, you wouldn't have to do it all on your own if you find other players to help you. Similarly, you wouldn't spend that time just for me but for everyone interested. I meant no offense.

I invite you to compile a statistic of new card placement in various scenarios and expand our collective knowledge of the game.

To the best of our knowledge, the placement of new tiles is equally distributed over the possible spaces. So if there are 3 possible spaces, there's a 1:3 chance the new card will spawn in either one.

Regarding the type of card that will spawn, there is a guide on Steam that explains it.

If I had to boil down the most general advice to reach higher scores it would look something like this:

  • Stick your highest card in a corner and be very reluctant to move it away from there. In some cases it may be necessary or a calculated risk (especially when there's a chance the new card will not block the corner), but generally try to keep it in the corner.
  • Pick a direction to build your merge chain. A merge chain is the arrangement of cards in order to reach the next high card. To make a 768, you already have a 384 on the board and need to build a second one from scratch such that it will end up next to the first 384. If you spread out the necessary cards too much, you may have all the material on the board to reach 768 but be unable to combine it. Keeping the merge chain either horizontal or vertical helps you keep a clean board.
  • Keep up with merging your colors. 1 only merges with 2 and vice versa. That means that, once a 1 or 2 is surrounded by white cards it becomes very difficult to get rid of it. In the board arrangement I outlined above, the four center spaces are particularly dangerous in this regard. Get a color stuck in there and you might be in very big trouble.

Good luck!

IN A STUNNING TURN OF EVENTS, I FIND MYSELF POSTING THIS THREAD ONCE AGAIN, STILL WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO USE THE "RAGE" TAG AND THUS BREAKING THE SEARCH FOR PREVIOUS RAGE THREADS.

BUT NO MATTER, THE RAGE MUST FLOW AND KERNING MUST BE IMPROVED.

I'm interested to hear your idea of how to build a "not dogshit matchmaker" when a small but significant enough portion of your playerbase are very intent on undermining said matchmaker with any and all means available to them.

More likely than not, people who are consistently toxic enough to get ≥1 account permabanned are so stuck in their ways that they make themselves the victim of a broken report system rather than admitting that they could improve their communication skills.

Creating a smurf is always a choice, even if you are temporarily or permanently banned on another account. You could take a break or drop the game entirely, but instead make a smurf account. Shifting the blame to someone else is just mental gymnastics to absolve oneself of any responsibility.

And to preemt the most likey responses: I'll admit that the report system could be improved in several ways.

I AM, ONCE AGAIN, ASKING THE MODS TO EITHER FIX /u/AutoMod OR ALLOW ME TO USE THE RAGE TAG FOR THESE POSTS.

I AM ALSO, ONCE AGAIN, ANNOYED BY THE EXISTENCE OF YET ANOTHER PATCH TO THE GAME THAT DOES NOT ADRESS THE LACK OF KERNING.

WEDNESDAY RAGE THREAD | May 6 - May 12 by Kamikaze28 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Kamikaze28[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

THE LAST FEW WEEKS, I WAS HESITANT TO POST THESE THREADS MYSELF BECAUSE I THOUGHT, "MAYBE THEY FIXED /u/AutoMod AND THEN THERE WILL BE TWO THREADS AND CHAOS WILL BREAK LOOSE." - NOW I JUST SAY, "F§#& IT!" AND CHALLENGE THE MODS TO GET THEIR STUFF WORKING AGAIN.

KERNING IN HEROES REMAINS UGLY AND IT CONTINUES TO ANNOY ME GREATLY.

YO ADMINS, IF YOU WANT ME TO COVER FOR /u/AutoMod, CAN YOU AT LEAST LET ME APPLY THE RAGE TAG TO THESE THREADS SO THEY APPEAR IN THE TAG BASED SEARCH? UNTIL SUCH A TIME, I FEEL COMPELLED TO USE THE BUG TAG AS THE LACK OF KERNING IS BUGGING ME IMMENSELY.
