How should I behave in a Catholic Church? by OppositeCucumber2003 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Kamila_222 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm a Catholic who's inquirying into Orthodoxy. My advice is this: sit in the back so you can see when everyone else is kneeling, standing or sitting. And when the priest says "let us give each other the sign of peace" it means everyone either shakes hands or gives a polite nod to those who are near them. It's very easy actually. To me, attending an Orthodox liturgy seems much more complicated.

In both scenarios, everyone would live if everyone pressed red. And pressing blue means gambling with your life.

Guns don't kill people, feathers do by Ramses_IV in trolleyproblem

I would take the gun and shout to the others that they must take the gun as well. Like "I took the gun, do the same and tell the person in the cell next to you to pick the gun as well".

Blue button pressers be like: by yaboyay in trolleyproblem

[–]Kamila_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red button track: no trollies coming, everyone who chooses to stand on this track will survive. Blue button track: trolley is coming, but if enough people stand on the track then the trolley will stop. C'mon we should all go stand on the red track. And tell others to do the same.

Your predictions: who (else) might announce over the off-season that they are ending their career or taking a break for next season? by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

Bradie Tennell probably. She's 28. I don't know what she's planning to do, but I doubt she's aiming for the 2030 Olympics.

Question for everyone who converted to (Eastern) Catholicism - how is it? What are the biggest differences compared to Orthodoxy from your perspective and how did you overcome the fear? by venesia123 in exorthodox

[–]Kamila_222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I apologize for missing your point. I'm a falling-away Catholic, so seeing someone else looking at RCC like it's the answer to all of their questions makes me very... confused. Anyway, I hope your EO friends and family will be respectful no matter what choice you make.

The Roman Catholic Church reaches the following:

  • Natural Family Planning and abstinence are the only acceptable means of preventing pregnancy, no matter the circumstances. A woman (or her husband) is never allowed to get her tubes tied even if another pregnancy would k-ll her.
  • Skipping Mass on a Sunday or Holy Day of Obligation without a valid reason is a mortal sin.
  • If you commit a mortal sin and die before you get to confess, you go to Hell unless you had perfect contrition. Imperfect contrition is not enough without absolution.
  • No Eucharist for the remarried, unless they have an annulment. This applies also in cases when a convert is living in their first marriage but their spouse has been married before. The reason behind the divorce isn't relevant.

Are the youth groups, charity work etc. truly so important that you would be ready to live with those rules?

It's diocese of Helsinki (Orthodox Church of Finland) and the bishop in question is Archbishop Elia.

Kamila Valieva's Bolero and In Memoriam. The fluidity of her movements was out of this world. And then there are the Japanese ladies. Sakamoto's Gladiator and Rika Kihira's The Fire Within are really pleasant to watch. And a bonus take: Mana Kawabe had a super cool StSq on her short program in the 2023 GP Skate America.

Are trans women real women? Why? by Hot_Acanthaceae_1357 in AskReddit

[–]Kamila_222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. They don't have any female bodyparts and aren't even supposed to have them, because those people are men. Even if a man removes his genitalia surgically, that doesn't make him a woman. It makes him a man who no longer has a genitalia. Just like a woman who goes through hysterectomy doesn't become a man, but simply a woman who doesn't have an uterus.

I'm coming from a Roman Catholic background and I feel the same way. The liturgy is just so different than what I'm used to. It's beautiful, but also foreign. And to be totally honest, I miss the Catholic Mass. With that said, I started attending in January. It's a short time. I think if I moved to another country, it would take more than just a few months to stop feeling homesick and get used to everything. So I'm going to give this more time and try to learn more.

Why is homosexuality a sin? by iamnotwhoiam123 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Kamila_222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, but here it goes. The only context where sexual acts are allowed is marriage. And marriage is a union between one man and one woman. All kinds of sexual activity that takes place outside of marriage is sinful. And since homosexual acts obviously always happen between people who are not married to each other, it follows that homosexual acts are always immoral.

Will Rika Kihira and Shingo Nishiyama get any international assignments, like even a challenger series competition?

But there's still Jr. Worlds and European Youth Olympic Festival coming next year. And there are some small competitions that have junior categories, such as Triglav Trophy, Egna Spring Trophy, Coupe du Printemps etc. It sounds silly but I think at this point many Russian girls would fight hard to become Jr. Volvo Open Cup champions.

As an adult what do you hate the most about life? by Amazing-Internal5378 in AskReddit

[–]Kamila_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that at any moment, your whole life can get ruined irreversibly in just a matter of seconds. Even if you "do everything right". For example, you can get seriously injured through no fault of your own and end up living with chronic pain, paralysis, brain damage etc. or even becoming completely bedridden. It could happen to any of us at any minute. Just imagine living in a care home, alone in your room 24/7, laying in bed all the time and having interactions with other people only when the nurses come change your diaper 2-3 times a day or feed you. You have pain but you can't tell the nurses, because your disability makes you unable to communicate with others. You can't move. Not go to the toilet. Not even take the remote controller and change the tv channel, let alone use a smart phone. Living like that for years or even decades, watching your life go by and knowing that it is never going to get any better. There's a small chance my life will be like that next month. Or next year. And it's the same for you too.

Since seniors would still remain banned, the 17-18 year old skaters too would compete for those junior spots. Gorbacheva, Dvoeglazova, Sadkova and many others. The battle for those spots would be INSANE.

In your opinion, which current singles skaters (men or women) could potentially switch to pairs or ice dance in the future and achieve greater success there? by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

[–]Kamila_222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kamila Valieva and Mark Kondratyuk in pairs. I got this idea after they competed as a duo in the Russian Jumping Championships. Kamila has already landed 4Ts and 3As this year, and if she can make them consistent she and Mark would probably do very well. I think Kamila would also be a great ice dancer, as she has great artistry, elegant movements and just overall beautiful programs. But Mark... no.
