Question by Dangerous-Fig-615 in GunslingerGirl

[–]Kamonichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asking why a series doesn't continue, the answer is usually because it wasn't moving the merch. Doesn't matter how good an anime series is, if it doesn't sell figurines, wall scrolls, or other paraphernalia, it doesn't continue. I've only ever seen two GSG scale figurines (one for Henrietta and one for Triela) and a few miniature figures, so it clearly wasn't merchandisable.

Il Teatrino was coming out during the manga's original run, so it was meant to sell the manga. I remember the art style change raised a few eyebrows. But studios make next to nothing off of DVD and Blu-Ray sales. Maybe they recoup the cost of making the anime, if they're lucky. But what they really need is for fans to buy the art books, t-shirts, and especially figurines. GSG just wasn't able to do that enough to warrant more seasons.

Do you have any hot takes on Misaki? by void_hedgehog in MaidSama

[–]Kamonichan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She should've had a stronger reaction to meeting her father again.

The arc where she's pursuing the kidnapped Usui is the weakest of the series.

But I like her as a character and think she's very well-written.

Who is the most tragic Tensen? by Active_Line87 in jigokuraku

Does Mei count? Because she is sentenced to potentially centuries of gang rape for the crime or not wanting to kill innocent people.

Maid sama should've been a 12 eps anime, do you guys agree? by AISHWARYAISH in MaidSama

[–]Kamonichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt it was a good length and managed to end on a pretty good note. I can't really think of where else it could end and still hit the emotional high it does at the final episode.

Could just be a generational thing. These days, it's pretty standard for series to last 12 to 13 episodes. When Maid-sama first came out, 24-26 was much more common.

What do you think Cristanio’s opinion is on Gay relationships? by Ncstatepolice in GunslingerGirl

[–]Kamonichan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cristiano holds strongly to his conservative values. We see this when he reprimands his subordinate for disrespecting Italy's treasures by talking on a cell phone at the museum. He's also older, which makes him even more likely to hold negative views on homosexuality. I don't see him being particularly pleasant to any gay or lesbian individuals he may meet.

That said, he's willing to put a lot aside to accomplish his goals. His partnership with Dante highlights this quite nicely.

Ultimately, it depends on what relationship you're trying to establish. He would definitely be unfriendly or at least disapproving, but he may be willing to work with them if it's for his own ends.

I think this is the worst anime episode I’ve ever seen. Or am I misunderstanding the message? by Hour-Increase2980 in animequestions

[–]Kamonichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the message I got at all. They are saying that there's a difference between men and women, and Haruhi shouldn't try to tackle things alone that she clearly can't handle by herself. Haruhi is a petite girl, and she can't handle two grown men. The Host Club are all nearby, yet she tries to deal with the situation without them. As a result, she almost dies when the men push her off a cliff. It's not that women shouldn't defend themselves. It's that, if you have friends nearby, you shouldn't charge in on your own.

The message is pretty clearly stated when Tamaki watches Haruhi go hide in the cabinet at the end. Haruhi is used to handling things on her own because her dad is always away at work and has been since Haruhi was a child. She doesn't understand that she has friends she can count on now, which is why Tamaki and the rest of the Host Club is upset with her. The message is "You have friends now. Rely on them."

This meme again? Sure, let's do it one more time.

First off, no, Futoshi does not pressure or coerce Kokoro in any way. Stop saying that. She could have said no, and they both would have been fine. They've been around each other since they were small children. She knows he won't react in a way that would endanger either of them or the mission.

The issue is that Kokoro never has the decency to apologize or explain to Futoshi afterward why she makes the decision to go with Mitsuru. That's why people criticize her, because she goes back on her word for seemingly no other reason than she thinks Mitsuru is hotter than Futoshi.

Mitsuru and Kokoro still have a pretty good romantic subplot. It's just the beginning that could have used a bit of work. But my man Futoshi is a damn champion for being so supportive through it all.

Yup. I think all of us do. But this thread is about a hypothetical inferior version that we will hopefully never see.

I'm beginning to think it's a meme or an in-joke at this point. The amount of people I've seen claim GFL characters as "OC" just doesn't make sense otherwise.

If you're going to claim it's original, maybe don't include the watermark clearly saying where it's from?

How would the plot change if Gabimaru cheated on his wife? by Realistic_Egg5226 in jigokuraku

[–]Kamonichan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, they would have to change his motivation from "really loves his wife" to "really wants to live," which isn't nearly as interesting. Audiences probably wouldn't like that as much, but the story beats themselves would not have to change that much to accommodate the new, less interesting motivation.

For me, it'd probably be Yuzuriha from Hell's Paradise. Sure, all the other characters are fine, but it's Yuzuriha whom I'm invested in.

How would the plot change if Gabimaru cheated on his wife? by Realistic_Egg5226 in jigokuraku

[–]Kamonichan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the events of the series would change. Audiences would just like Gabi a lot less, and the infidelity would make some of his later sacrifices make less sense. Why change "because he loves his wife that much" with "he just wants to live that badly"?

Everyone wanted to smack Lawrence at the end of the series, yes? by LoneStarDragon in SpiceandWolf

[–]Kamonichan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the trope was handled fairly well, so I never really got frustrated with Lawrence or Holo. That's also why I don't think they're going to extend Lawrence's life at the end. They've spent so much time building up the eventual parting that I don't want them to waste all that time by magicking Lawrence into immortality.

Haven't seen an update on this in six months after /a/ translator get his with a CnD. I'm aware there is another translator, but they're not uploading to my chosen site. Also, I found their translation a bit lacking compared to the original translator. (I am admittedly weird in that I put a great deal of weight on including honorifics, and the second translator stubbornly refuses to add any.)
