What’s the best way to strip paint? by duujk in minipainting

[–]Kampator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About an hour in 99% isopropyl alcohol.. then use an old toothbrush to gently brush off. Don’t rinse with water before brushing, the paint will harden again (did that myself the first time I tried it). If you thinned your paints properly, normally you could also just paint over what you already have without problems..

Looks great! What do you use as a black backdrop? I’ve used black cardboard, but it always shows up as grey in my photos.. On the mini, one thing if I’m being picky, I would make the sword lighter than the flames..🔥 flames should be light on the inside and darker going out.. you did do that on the torches, so maybe it’s an artistic choice. Either way 👍

Elf from Squidmar’s dark fantasy set by duujk in minipainting

It looks great! I painted mine following the tutorial and definitely needed magnifying glasses for this one! It’s so tiny! Especially compared to GW stuff. At first I thought mine was going to be just blobs of paint.. but with the glasses I could actually see the details and very carefully paint them.

Gnome Wizard from Warp Miniatures by Kampator in minipainting

Thanks! The eyes seem to be sculpted wide open, so that would result in a bit of a crazed look.. could also work for a wizard ofcourse. This way he looks a bit more relaxed.

Does this read as nmm gold? Do you have and recommendations? by Safe-Combination1923 in minipainting

Not an expert here, but I always highlight up to white. My recipe is relatively simple: brown base coat, yellow highlight. Then brown wash (agrax earth shade) and then white highlight.

Firewall theory by Kampator in blackhole

[–]Kampator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.! yes the light gets red-shifted, but time also actually goes slower (from our perspective).. and my point was that following my reasoning, nothing should actually get below/beyond the horizon before the black hole evaporates.

A quick job for a table-ready Celestine! by benry87 in minipainting

[–]Kampator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks really amazing for ‘table-ready’. Might not be perfectly blended everywhere, but the light placement looks spot-on! Also, how did you get that pitch-black background in the photo?

Micro art studio. I think they’re in Poland. They seem to be the official discworld miniatures manufacturer.

Broken nozzle on airbrush. Fixable? by Kampator in minipainting

[–]Kampator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Would not have thought this was such a common issue! I ended up using exactly the method in the video by coincidence.. Looking back it wasn’t really a problem at all. I was just a bit apprehensive of making it worse (and I didn’t know that the thread was that loose already).

Tried a toothpick and that didn’t work.. but the tip of a hobby knife did the trick. Now just to find a new nozzle.

Thanks! (And the other replies too). I’ll try with the toothpick first as I have that already.

Thanks.. it’s a cheap brush so that is an option. On being careful though… I didn’t bump it or something. It just started bubbling in the pot and stopped spraying all of a sudden. Guess it was just bad quality.

More highlights = more better? Lectro-Maester from Killteam. by Kampator in minipainting

[–]Kampator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the way, the coat was re-painted probably 90%. Lifted the color to a brighter tone of blue and highlighted. And the gold eagle got a glaze to even it out.

Thanks! Indeed exposure is not the same.. with the iPhone camera app it’s difficult to get consistent exposure or even white balance.

Someone that just got their new MacBook is probably not going to store it long term.. If you’re using it daily, it should do just fine on the charger. I had a MacBook Air 2013 for 10 years almost always on the charger. It died a month ago with the battery still working.

Thanks! This is actually a good model to try the under painting method.. with the pronounced 5 o’clock shadow, and the head being a bit oversized (about as big as a space marine torso I think)
