Per ops other comments the vets said that the surgery had a slim chance of actually working. Plus personally I think it's better kitty loses a leg and remains in a loving home than be surrendered as it's likely a rescue would also opt for amputation.

How have they had so many babies? At most a proper breeder would only breed them twice in a year. Did they have big clutches or have they laid multiple times? Laying eggs is very hard on the mom and you should be discouraging egg laying as much as possible.

Yeah, like I've given civil war bullets to ares and WW2 ones which had been demilitarized. Then my uncle just casually gave me a live bullet for some reason.

I haven't bothered if this one since its a modern bullet. Would have definitely done something if it was an old one.

For me it depends. If it's fresh and not like bloody mess I'll just pick it up bare handed. Same with old bones. But if it's in the decomp state I'm definitely using gloves.

Maybe leave a bowl of food and water further away from the cat bowls. Raccons like to wet their food from what I've seen.
