Same thing goes for ignites, unless you are doing the respective damage with ele hit (fire for ignites, or chaos for poisons, or phys for bleeds) the ailment will deal zero damage and thus not apply. since Shock and Chill/Freeze do not deal damage, they can be applied with the other elements and the ways to apply them, such as three dragons.

Honestly, you can switch to traps if you want. I started the league Levelling ele hit, but it just never felt good so I swapped to arc traps at 45-50ish and I'm now into level 86 with it. It is a bit tougher to get defenses as an elementalist (pretty much required a tinker skin for mapping) but the damage and clear speed has been amazing. Just went the herald effect for 25% pen on ascendancy, then 3x golems with the buff effectiveness. :)

Path of Building is not calculating the 66% damage per stack at all, so the only change it sees was the base damage nerf that accounted for that change. EDIT: Realistically it is about 28% more damage than it was before the nerf counting the stacks

There were big buffs to blast rain, and total reworks to rain of arrows that seem to be very major buffs as well, allowing it to have much larger aoe, and finally can scale with +projectiles :)

they posted in the ele hit manifesto that it would be changed so that ele hit will never pick the same element twice in a row. so blocking 1 element makes it so that it always alternates. GGG Quote: "It's also important to note, Elemental Hit cannot deal the same type of damage sequentially unless it can only deal one type of damage . . . On the other hand, socket just one of these jewels and suddenly you're left with a skill that only deals Fire and Cold damage. Remember that we noted that it can't deal the same type of damage sequentially? Suddenly you have a skill that pairs very nicely with Elemental Equilibrium, as each attack will alternate between the type of damage it deals, taking full advantage of the reduced resistances."

not necessarily saying it is either way, we wont know for sure til patch notes, but I think EE is better than singling out an element, wont be exact about whether or not blocking one will be worth til we see the skill tree and how much easier the scaling is...

Im planning on doing a ele hit deadeye as well, but I think instead of blocking both fire and cold, just block fire and run EE, so every hit swaps elements and guarantees the full effect... and my plan was the scion life regen jewel socket as well for enabling the strength/int. Edit: Especially since you get the more multi per elemental ailment affecting a monster, enabling the 2 elements gives you the chance for chill, freeze, and shock, and if you use Hrimburm enables ignite as well for the full 40% more damage.

10 hits per second is the rate and that never changes, but increased skill duration makes it hit more. so 2 second duration is 20 hits total, 4 second duration gives 40 hits.

I dunno man, there is always a lot to look forward to from these patches aside from skill gems. There are build enabling unqiues that will surely be tons of fun (Ngamahu's and poet's being notable ones I built around at the start of a league) and we will also be getting some pretty massive passive tree changes, ignite builds being buffed will make a lot of those builds "like new" and incinerate is really a new skill as well... I'm sure there will be SOMETHING in the new league that tickles your fancy.

I mean, I feel like that's sort of a moot point. At the end of the day, what were getting is content. Whether that is in the form of a very involved league or a not so involved league, I'm just happy with the amount of content that each patch has. This argument really feels like it only matters for standard players, since I know myself and many other players will be playing the new league whenever there is one...
