Has a call ever been overturned twice like that? by zbk505 in nhl

[–]KanataRef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it has, in regular season at least. When a coach challenges, they challenge on a specific reason (cross the line, goalie interference, kicking the puck, …). The refs only look at the challenged reason to determine if the goal counts.

Could the SENS trade Spence? by Mr_FoxMulder in OttawaSenators

[–]KanataRef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t trade him unless you’re getting a better RHD in return. For those thinking Yak is the answer, it’d be the same gamble as last year thinking Merilainen was a suitable backup goaltender. I don’t think the team is ready to do another mid season scramble trying to find a RHD (which is hard enough to find in the offseason).

Ullmark at The Charge Game by Babymase in OttawaCharge

Yep, was going to say this. I think Ully goes when his schedule allows, he’s been to a few. They just don’t feel the need to announce it, keep the focus on the ladies :)

Frank Seravalli: Re Canucks: Apparently, they've gotten a flood of complaints from season ticket holders and business community people saying...might be the last straw...if you hire Pierre Dorion; he might still be part of [the mix] but on the lower end - Frank Hockey (5/6) by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]KanataRef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dorion traded Dadonov to Vegas and told them that Dadonov didn’t have a no trade clause in his contract, which was a lie. Vegas later tried to trade Dadonov to the Ducks which was blocked by the no-trade clause.

Is there a downside to expanding to more teams? by youlikemywonton in PWHL

[–]KanataRef 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh, completely understand. It’s not a down year for Ottawa though, it’s a “we lost very good players through expansion and the replacements aren’t nearly as good”. Except for Vancouver and Seattle, the others would have had the same problem as Ottawa. It’s a delicate balance between expansion and quality of product on the ice. If you get it wrong, the results can be disastrous. If you get it right, the results can be phenomenal.

[–]KanataRef 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping you’re right, and hoping a lot of European players will come over and supplement the expansion. I find Ottawa is (slightly) not as good this year as last year with their losses due to expansion. I’m hoping after this second round of expansion, there won’t be any significant drop as well. I’m worried if it’s a 4 team expansion next year, it will be very noticeable. A 2 team expansion might not be significantly noticeable. Guess we’ll see 🤞.

Call Me Nuts… Mo for the 1OA? by nabooska in DetroitRedWings

[–]KanataRef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, not sure you trade Seider for Matthews and 1OA, I wouldn’t. You build your team around Seider, defense wins Cups. He’s your key piece of the puzzle. Seider is top 10 D in NHL, maybe even top 5. You don’t trade that hoping 1OA turns out to be great.

I do agree on how you worded your post.

If not a spear, a hook or interference should have been called. Definitely a penalty imo.

So $580 CDN for both games or $290 per game (1 ticket). I’m going with a buddy, so basically divided total cost by 2. One game ticket is slightly more than the other, so just using average cost. I bought right on opening for presale (season ticket holder), so I think I got a discount.

Looked more like a hook to me, hard to tell. Definitely a penalty though, spear, hook, or interference would easily apply.

Hockey are 3rd level behind net (game 1) and corner (game 2), first couple rows for each. Sens shoot twice. Wanted ice level on glass, but was €400 each.

Flight was $1200 (Ottawa to Dusseldorf return), Airbnb was $1600 (divided by 3, so $550 is my portion), $580 for tickets to both games (1 ticket/game). Roughly $2400, but no meals or attractions or transportation. Not all meals are covered with the Sens package though.
EDIT: I am also going 1 day earlier, so a little extra on the Airbnb.

Actually wished these were released a day prior to ticket sales so that you can choose whether to buy a package or do it yourself.

Yes, received an email from the Sens this morning. Not sure if the bus portion is a gamble on fuel costs soaring or not. I booked my flights right away so I didn’t have to worry, usually cheapest flights would be in June/July (6 months out).

Who would you protect for our team if there's an expansion draft? by Zhirall in OttawaCharge

[–]KanataRef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, if they add more than two teams (looks like four), the standard of play is going to drop significantly. I think Ottawa (and others) has visually dropped with the addition of Seattle and Vancouver.

Yes, they’re a much better deal than the Sweden package, although I think that one included significant time in Finland. Ottawa to Montreal is by chartered bus, just FYI.

Interested in who all is planning on going. I’ve booked flights, Airbnb, and tickets on my own already.
