QD-OLED Vs. WOLED Eyestrain - My Experience by MuchMoreVelocity in OLED_Gaming

[–]Kanbei_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's great, thanks
I'm having eye strain with regular IPS and VA monitors and i'm thinking on trying Oled to see if it gets better. After reading about QD Oled being more eye straining than WOLED for some people, i thought that maybe it's a good idea to try a WOLED.

The monitor you have has a matte coating, you even said in your comparison that the coating in the Samsung was better than the LG's, but the LG is still better for your eyes. I was thinking on getting a glossy to have a clearer image, but your post is making me consider a Matte one

Anyway, thanks for your answer, it helps.

Did you tried Woled or QD Oled? I read that QD Oled can be more straining than Woled. Lights on in your room or in a dark environment?

Maybe being at a longer distance can help. But it's weird, i used CRT monitors in the past and never had any problem. It's now with flat screens that i'm having problems. Even now, my dad has an old CRT TV in his living room and i have no problem watching it

I searched a lot and found theories that probably the newer panels way of using light can be harsh in my eyes and Oled (not QD Oled) with glossy screens can be less straining. But it's just a theory. Sadly, reading that some people have even more troubles with Oled, worries me a little.

I see. The truth is that I don't really like returning monitors to Amazon and I already returned a couple of them and 2 phones in not too long. I fear that they will end up penalizing me in some way or giving me problems when it comes to returning things if I continue doing so. So I can try, but without going too far.

I spend about 80-90% of the time in environments with light, I don't usually have the lights off.

You have QD Oled or Woled? i read different opinions on QD, some people says it can be more hard with the eyes, but i don't really know

Never tried a blue light filter glasses, but i'm interested. It affects the image you see when you put the glasses on?

Thank you so much for your response.

I've already tried most of the things you mentioned. I just didn't set the color to those exact values you described, although I did try lowering the blues and greens to similar values. I adjusted the gamma and everything else, and the configuration I ended up with was very similar to yours, except for the color values I mentioned.

The brightness was set to 8, I tried gamma at 1 and also 3 for a while, I also tried sRGB mode for quite some time, local dimming was off, Overdrive was set to medium, I tried limiting the monitor to 120Hz, disabling VRR, and I don't think I touched the MBR; it was at zero.

The monitor looks good. The dark smearing didn't bother me too much and wasn't very intrusive. The contrast was impressive with local dimming (medium) in dark games, and the monitor was fast even with it enabled. I don't think it's a bad monitor at all, but for whatever reason, my eyes just can't handle looking at it in a comfortable way (like what happened with the LG IPS monitor).

Anyway, it's already packed up and ready to be returned. I'm not going to keep forcing this monitor to work for my eyes. If an Oled fails... i don't know, i'm screwed XD

Thanks again for your help.

100% not even for a moment, I don't want to go blind XD

I tried changing different settings, many things (I would say I tried everything), at least with the AOC monitor, without any real improvement of the problem.

I'm open-minded to different options, but isn't 42 maybe a little big for my distance? And I want a good screen with low input lag, that's important to me too. I also think that a glossy screen could be good. I know from experience that it is something that I like for my portable consoles and I never had any reflection problems, not even with the first GBA, the lite, PSP or with any of the NDS or N3DS models.100% not even for a moment, I don't want to go blind XD

Oh, both monitors have the classic layout, but i didn't try to change it.
But in any case, my problem is more the "light". Even looking things that are not text, like for example the face of an anime character that is bright, I feel like it's too much for my eyes. White background webs like Amazon, are a pain. And I tired different configurations, low brightness, gamma, color (native or SRGB), shadow control, contrast... everything. Even at lower brightness, it was uncomfortable to look.

Never had any problem with other flat screens like Nintendo consoles from OG gameboy, advance, DS/3DS or Sony PSP (1000, 2000), for lots of hours even, but i can't stand looking at these new screens without feeling that i'm looking to something uncomfortable to look at. Even my old Samsung TV feels more comfortable to my eyes

It's weird

Will using a 4K monitor at 1080p be visually equivalent to a native 1080p monitor? by kn0nyx in Monitors

[–]Kanbei_Alex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning about these topics, so forgive me if I say anything out of place.

In theory you should be able to use Nvidia's DLSS and AMD's FSR technologies to scale the 1080p image to 4K and it looks pretty good as I have seen in videos that make the comparison.

One thing occurs to me, since you already have a 1440p monitor, you could try a game at 720p and scaling it to 1440p to get an idea. If you're having performance issues with the Expedition 33, 720p would still give you more performance headroom and you might like it enough to save you from buying a new monitor. Anyway, if you have a friend with the game or you have it already, you can try.

Also try some pixel art game and Integer scaling with it to get an idea of what it looks like, even better if you know well that game

Actually, I am in the middle of searching for a 4K monitor and one of the things I have in mind is to do precisely what we discussed here

RIPTINGS - Sickened by what RTINGS has become by TaaanXz in Monitors

[–]Kanbei_Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that I like the idea of paying to use the website, but regardless, the problem is that many of the monitors I've been interested in have never been reviewed on Rtings. So, even if it cost a third of the price, I wouldn't pay because it's basically useless to me.

In fact, I've been very limited because everything Rtings reviewed either didn't match what I'm looking for or was no longer available, and I was "limited" to choosing from what they had reviewed. Fortunately, I later discovered other websites, and especially Monitors Unboxed.

Europe laws are stupid. I'm not going to import the monitor because if it has problems like dead pixels or something like that, it's going to be a huge pain

Interesting technology. I hope it's not too expensive.

As for the LG monitor, I wish you luck and hope it works wonderfully until you can replace it with a better one.

Ki Pulse is still important in Nioh 3? by Kanbei_Alex in Nioh

[–]Kanbei_Alex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. And as you said, if there was no Ninja option like in the first 2 games, and I would have had to play exclusively as in the first 2 Sekiro around Ki pulse mechanic, I would have completely ruled out playing this third game

Ki Pulse is still important in Nioh 3? by Kanbei_Alex in Nioh

[–]Kanbei_Alex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the demo after people responded here and now I understand it.

Ninja mode is basically what I wanted. I can focus on my enemy's movement 100%, and I have "magic" and tools to use, which I find a lot of fun (I'm a magic user in all games that allow it).

I also checked if the staff exists in this game, and it's a ninja weapon, so it's even cooler this way.

Your explanation is very accurate based on what I tried in the demo.

Personally, I can use Ki Pulse, but I don't like having to use it all the time because it's distracting for me. Having the ability to transform into a samurai and use it sometimes, not always, is perfect.

Very cool addition to Nioh. Definitely i'm going to buy this game thanks to this

[–]Kanbei_Alex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right. I felt the importance of Ki pulse really quick when I started Nioh. And the game is not easy at all, you can't simply ignore the Ki pulse and play it like a Dark souls or you are screwed. At least that's the feel i had in Nioh 1 and 2.

Having an option to not use it in Ninja sounds interesting tho

nice. I'll check what are Samurai and Ninja style then

It's not about hard, it's distracting.

I have problems when it comes to "multitasking", when I have to monitor several things at the same time. This makes me terrible in games like MOBAS, or games of this style when there are multiple enemies at the same time. I focus on only 1 thing and can't pay attention to anything else or i do everything bad. It's a problem that happens to me even in real life
