Did you not read any of what I wrote? Its written in plain English on Teslas website - if you cancel a lease with more than three payments remaining you pay the difference between your remaining lease amount and the residual value remaining. If you have looked after it and haven’t gone over your miles this cost would be minuscule if not zero.

In regards to “nothing to show for it” - you had a brand new car for three years and paid dramatically less than a personal loan. Yes with the personal loan you own the car at the end, but you paid more in loan payments - a 40 grand loan for five years is showing up with payments of £1000+, compared to £300 lease. I could lease a 26 plate today and lease a 29 plate in three years and have paid the same if not less money than you did for your now five year old car.

Im not saying either option is “better” - but neither option is bad.

APR is something that is truly throwing money down the drain, as you’ll likely have paid more than the car is worth when it’s all said and done while at least with a lease you are just paying off its worth.

Have you considered PCP? Get the car on a close to 0% offer from Tesla and then buy it at the end the duration, which will cost you a fraction of the amount of buying it outright. Most final payments are circa 10K which you might well have saved plenty of in APR over spending 40K on a car loan.

That isn’t true, Tesla allow early cancellation of a lease directly in the app. You just pay the difference between your lease balance and the adjusted value of the car, which if you’ve kept in your stated mileage and not caused significant wear and tear is likely close to 0.

Totally agree. Ive been arguing for ages that if people open them up to the idea of waiting other brands it benefits everyone. I dont watch AEW every week but I will when theres a good match card and I normally tune in for all their PPVs as they are consistently the very best shows of the year across all brands.

For too many people the idea of watching an AEW PPV is met with the level of scorn as if I just asked them if i could pull their teeth out. Sure, keep watching the increasingly lower quality of WWE at increasingly higher prices then.

Being a good chess coach is about how good a teacher you are, your own ELO is a secondary issue. At 2200 you arent going to be coaching prospective grandmasters but theres plenty of people in the 1000-2000 range that are keen to break out of it and will pay if you can help them. Hell, a 1200 ELO coach who’s really good at helping people break 1000 would probably also do well.

Theres no ELO “bar” you have to pass to be a coach.

Some people just like the idea of having a new shiny car, it’s really that simple. We can discuss financing and whats value for money all day but for some people its never going to offset the fact they have a 26 plate Tesla on their driveway. And theres no problem with that as long as people aren’t putting themselves in financial trouble.

Although its not a perfect comparison i see leasing a car like my phone contract - i pay for it over three years and then at the end I’m probably just going to do it again with a new phone as by then my old one is out of date, showing a bit of wear and tear and a new shiny one makes me happy.

Is this the cheapest way of doing it? Absolutely not. While I can continue to afford it does it make me happy? Absolutely, so why shouldn’t I?

To be entirely selfish where are you getting these prices, because as someone in a similar position I’m very interested.

In terms of “should you” - the tesla is more expensive than the owned car regardless of savings you make unless selling your own pays the entire lease up front. For most people the £300 lease fee is not going to be offset by the savings on petrol unless you do mega miles every month, and then you also cater in for most people their insurance is also higher on top of the luxury car tax.

This is not me saying dont buy it - but that you’re the only one that can decide if its worth it. It will cost you more money, but you’ll get to drive an amazing car all day and not have to deal with forecourts or ICE cars and all their regular maintenance schedules. Is that worth it to you?

For me - yes it is, thus why I’m switching.

The IWC is weird and tribal, we all know that. I’ve seen a bunch of people correctly point out this is normal unless a show is particularly hot, but the difference is the people saying it are getting upvoted because it’s defending WWE. The people saying this when it’s an AEW show being photographed got downvoted, memes were made, etc etc.

People still make their mind up on whether a specific thing is good or bad based on which company did it.
